What was your greatest missed shot?

Last night a stray cat had kittens on my back deck. She had the first one right outside my screen door in plain view and when I reached for the camera NO FILM!! Boy was I mad! It would have made a great scrapbook page, and today when I had film after work she had moved the kittens so I don't even know how many she had. What was your missed shots lately? Penny

My 'Biggest' missed shot was just this Mother's Day. Dh, ds (22yo on the 6th) and I took our Moms out to dinner, came back to our home and took pics. Unfortunately, MY ds had gone home from the Restaurant, so I didnt get pic of him and me!
I am still kicking myself in the head for NOT taking the camera to the Restaurant with us!

Mine was tonight at the ballpark. My DD's team was tied in the 8th innings with the score 23-23, we had one out and a girl on third, my dd was up to bat, hit the ball and brought the runner in and we won the game. The coach picked her up and put her on his shoulders. I took the camera and took all kinds of pictures for a scrapbook page but the most important one I missed. I could have kicked myself, oh well, we win some and we lose some hu?

Daisy, to walk in your garden would be an incredible pleasure. I'm just amazed at what you've accomplished since you moved to Crete; it looks as though everything has been there for decades. Your roses are so lush, and I've never seen a Marechal Niel like yours. I especially love the steps; there's just something about steps in gardens that seems romantic. Thank you for posting more than a few pictures. I'm going to be studying them. I should probably show them to my garden! Em, we all started like you, and most of us have had failures; I know I've had tons. I really like what you've done so far; it's very pretty and the dianthus are darling. I'd love to have some myself. The regular ones I had got rangy and messy by the second year but yours look small and bushy. I'm going to have to look for some for myself. Hey J, I thought about dividing the thread, but I thought ppl may get mad about it. I'll repost perhaps and do one ever few days. I don't have as much time now since I'm back to work as of yesterday after a medical leave, so it would be easier for me too; great suggestion as always! And, manyhosta, you are right too. I didn't see alot of other pics to indicate size so I didn't do that, but I will! I'll redo the pics and try again. You are right about the grade there. Infact in person I'd say it is worse than what I see in the pic. Your suggestion is very much needed and I'd planned on it, but once I got the stone all off and the barrier... whoa! I have it graded now to the front slightly and it should be much healthier for my house and sump pumps! We did plant the area on Sunday and I'll take some pics. Maybe one of the guys will tell me I'll be moving them in a few years! LOL Goldedger, I dunno, it is not a big plant or leaf but it is also not in a good spot for it at all! All I can say is WOW! I don't know what else to say. I think I have been drooling over most of them for awhile now.... Liv Tyler (Comtesse de Provence)/Sweet Promise...gorgeous! Love the quartered blooms! Bolero-thought it was Eden at first-love the pinky inside! Guy de Maupassant-look so big and heavy! Do they really have deep fragrance to your nose? Jean Giono always reminds me of a yellow/orange dahlia! Yves Piaget-had once, died, want another. Reminds me of our peonies here. Think it was the source (Wayside) and a sale rose at that. Beth, your last four shots...wow. I read that Versigny is hard to find? I've never even heard of the others (except for Johann Strauss!) Thank you ALL for sharing these awesome photos! I tried a few Oprah picks, but they all seemed stuck on one theme: dysfunction -- usually of the family sort or women doing stupid things, then transcending their idiocy. Very noble in intention, I'm sure, but I always feel I've been thumped on the head repeatedly with a tablespoon when I read O's choices. My list would start with Mark Twain. He can get me out of a funk quicker than just about any American writer. I would like to include Harper Lee and Margaret Mitchell, but I'm with Carolyn that only one book each makes them hard to estimate. I really like Wallace Stegner's histories (e.g., about the American West, Mormons) and biographies (John Wesley Powell). I'm not fond of his fiction for a reason I find hard to define...maybe it's just because it's fiction after I have been so entranced by his skill with nonfiction. Styron has written some of the loveliest, most vivid descriptions I think I've ever read. But gosh! his fiction, to me, is depressing. I recognized that even before I knew that he was suffering depression himself. As for Faulkner, I still say that The Reivers is my favorite -- I find it hilarious. It's entirely accessible too. I know he's admired for his labyrinthine sentences and stream of consciousness, so the 'normalness' of The Reivers evidently makes it lesser somehow in some sniffy quarters. Let 'em sniff; I'll take pure entertainment when I can get it. I liked Steinbeck when I was younger, but trying to reread his fiction is like listening to stale sermons. I didn't realize how preachy some of his stuff is. I'll stick up for Hemingway any day, though I know that many women loathe his writing (and him, too, apparently). Of the two rivals, F. Scott Fitzgerald was certainly the more elegant writer, but Hemingway appeals in an entirely different way to me. I think it's really silly to compare them, but it seems inevitable for some reason. Poets: Edgar Allan Poe (and short stories) Elizabeth Bishop (I like her prose, too.) Emily Dickinson Sylvia Plath Anne Sexton (Why are so many fine poets depressives?) Mary Oliver (she's growing on me!) Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (call him corny, I don't care, as I think his corn will outlast most of the synthetics of the 20th/21st centuries)

My first mothers day a few years ago, my dh took a pic of me holding our dd and my mom and grandmother. What a great generation picture it was! This year I brought my camera to take the same picture and do you think I remembered to do it before everyone left???!!!! Hopefully, I will have a "make-up" opportunity soon; no one has to know it wasn't actually mothers day....(except now you guys!) :o)

My dh is one of 9 children. It is a very rare occasion that they are all present at an occasion at the same time. A few years ago at a graduation party I realized that they had all been together, (including their parents), AFTER one had already left. It would have been a great gift for his parents. I am now very aware of counting heads at family gatherings but it hasn't happened again since.

On the way to taking my daughter out to school one morning. We have TONS of Deer in Michigan. I looked out over one of the fields to see if any were feeding yet. There in the distance was a line of 5 Deer walking across a field. Surrounded by morning mist. With the Sun rising behind them! AND ME WITHOUT MY CAMERA! Arghhhhh!!!

Mine would have to be a few weeks ago. A friend of mine dropped by with her 2 year old son (my dd is also 2). We were looking something up on the net and the 2 kids followed us into the office. When we realized they were quiet and turned around, they had both pulled books off of the bookcase and were quietly flipping through novels about the Roman empire!!! They both looked so totally engrossed in what they were "reading". It was adorable. I ran to get teh camera and for the first time since dd was born, no film. i couldn't believe it!

Memorial Day Weekend we were at the beach. We had a sudden storm with high winds and my DH ran out to fetch my DD's sandals that she had left by the sea wall. I grabbed my camera and just as a wave was crashing over the sea wall where he was standing my camera FROZE!! DEAD BATTERIES! AAAAHHHHH!!

I've had so many, I can't remember them all. HA But I did want to pass along a tip. I keep a "throwaway" camera in the glove box of my car. It has come in handy so many times...one time I was passing by my daughter's school, and there was her class out looking at the visiting firetruck. I pulled over and took a pic. Another time, we were leaving our development and saw a family of geese crossing our neighborhood entryway. And once a hot air balloon unexpectedly descended at a local park. So keep that camera ready!! (It also may come in handy at the scene of a traffic accident, although let's hope that never happens!)
