For finding contractors, I'd start with my local government's building department/code enforcers and find out if they've ever inspected any kitchen hood MUA systems -- if so, ask who did the work. Also, I would try calling any local retailers who sell higher-capacity range hoods (if anybody local sells them). Also, there have been discussions here at GW where folks have owned-up to using exterior-venting 400 cfm OTRs with pro-style ranges. Heck, if your stove is against an exterior wall, you could even vent the existing OTR and work with that for a while. Almost any overhead vent-set-up will do a better job than the downdraft and recirculating vents you now have. A 400 CFM hood would be better, even if not as good as the venting could be. We have to work within our budgetary, spatial and architectural constraints, Wekick: Specifically I would love it to go low enough to -hold an 8 qt pot of mashed potatoes in enameled cast iron. Can you do that with your Wolf range? I've done that with induction but very low gas flames seem a little too concentrated to evenly heat the cast iron base on my LC enameled CI when I've got mashed potatoes in them. Of course, the burners will do the stupid melt-chocolate-on-a-paper-plate trick and I haven't needed a double boiler for years even with my previous GE DF range. Holding mashed potatoes on a gas stove-top is the one task for which I've needed a dispersion plate/disk/flame tamer. Todd or any of you folks with a BS or AR have any better luck with the star-shaped open burners on your ranges? There is very little hard data on reliability. The only data I know of is from Consumer Report's annual membership surveys. Over the last several years, GE (and its Hotpoint subsidiary brand) have been far and away the most reliable brand of electric stoves with defect rates of 5% or less compared with 10% and greater for most other brands. The most recent membership survey (40,000 CR members who bought a new stove between 2007 and 2012) showed Hotpoint with a 4% problem rate, GE & Whirlpool with a 6% problem rate, and everybody else with problems rates on electric stoves over 10%. Samsung is not listed in the CR results. It new-enough to the US market for stoves that apparently there were not yet enough responses on it to generate usable survey data. As for GE customer complaints, they may be on the rise due to changes in GE warranty service. As noted in several threads here, GE apparently decided to outsource its warranty management services to A&E, the sometimes infamous subsidiary of Sears. As exemplified by several long running threads here and at ConsumerAffairs.com, A&E service issues in some parts of the country have generated a great deal of customer ire. In my area, Samsung seems to rely on the likes of A&E and the Geek Squad which have poor reputations for service quality and generate complaints. You might try a google search on samsung + appliance + warranty + complaints. Another aspect of rising complaints is that the planned life of stoves seems to have shortened, or at least the life expectancy of circuit boards has shortened. A decade ago, it seemed that rangess were expected to have an average life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. (meaning that half of them would last longer and half would not). Within the last year, ConsumerAffairs, Consumerist, and Consumer Reports have indicated that planned life expectancy has dropped into the seven year range for many appliances. So, with GE having a large market share, there may be a lot more disappointed GE customers for the time being. As Samsung stoves age, we may well see comparable levels of disappointment.

Japan strives to maintain a 1% or less reject or loss ratio. As stated previously, 4% on a hot day equates to an uncomfortable environment, that soon fails to cool. It really doesnt matter. After multiple additions of f410a, the result is degraded capacity. Many techs never find the leak, and continue to add freon. This normally falls below the minimum standards specified by the EPA. Many techs add freon to systems regardless of the need, because the bill is larger. I am suggesting that every service call is a chance to add freon to the system. This increases the loss of cooling capacity. In Hot climate, the ambient causes a major loss when using todays method of sizing systems with Man J. Trying to meet Texas size standards for new construction is almost impossible using normal design technique. 4% will kill a new system quickly in over 100f degree days, and require yearly addition of Freon to the system. I have found many systems that leak during the winter, from bad schrader valves. Most techs don't care, they gas and go. I have supervised construction in the USA and Canada. My sister has a different approach. When our mother died, she left behind a few boxes of old (and I mean old) family photos from both her family and my late father's family. She also left behind albums of her own RCAF service in WWII, and some photos and a scrapbook of a couple of my dad's voyages (he was engineer on an ocean-going tug). Sis took photos of my mom's younger brother, killed during WWII, to the tiny local museum where they grew up. Uncle Stuart's photo is now on their War Memorial wall. She took some photos of Mom's air force service to the aviation museum at the airport where she served. She took photos and memorabilia of my Dad's historic tugboat trip (yes, don't laugh, there are such events!) to the Maritime Museum in Vancouver. And she sent photos of my grandparents' homesteading days on the Prairies to the local museum back there, as well. All were delighted to have them! I've passed on some photos she gave me of our maternal grandparent's earlier years in England to a local historian back there who has an interest in the historic house they lived in, and had previously written about the family. He's now added a bit more to their story on his blogsite, and even dug up some information we didn't know about, including a couple of photos. So, while I may not have my grandparent's wedding photo up on a wall, it and they are memorialized on line in an article he wrote about them!
