Doing Inside of Scrapbook cards first

I made a beautiful scrapbook card last night, stamping and coloring etc. Then when I wrote inside--I messed it up.

I did cover it with more paper and "fixed" it but I will now decide and do the insides first. I would like more "inside of card ideas". Is this the place?

You can buy a lot of card sentiment stamps that will make putting the 'inside' part of a card much easier. Over the years I've collected a lot of different ones. If you don't want to go that route, consider printing the sentiments from the computer and then cut them to fit the inside and use your favorite adhesive to put them inside. Sounds like you're doing a lot to get started with card making! Good for you!

After doing things like that a few times I made a new rule for myself - simple to complex. In other words start with the easiest thing first and then go to the next step, etc.

You can find the chalks in scrapbooks stores and in the craft department of Wal-Mart. I have even used my kids sidewalk chalk! I just used a q-tip to apply it. If you have any of that outrageous '80s eyeshadow, that works well too, LOL. I use blush in a lot of my craft projects to make pink cheeks on things. You can watercolor you paper casts too, just don't use too much water or it will turn to a sodden mess. You can use kids watercolors, or take a water based marker and "color" onto a plastic lid. Then dip your brush in water and run throught the marker residue - 'voila!

I'm no expert, I'm just starting too...but I think I've read that you should get rid of the construction paper if at all possible. Use some acid-free, lignin-free, archival card stock instead.

Dear Elaine, You have several options: 1. Make a scrapbook page that has a pocket or flap at the bottom of the page to hold the cards. 2. Test the cards for acid and if they test negative you can cut them up and use the pretty images for die cuts on pages. 3. Spray the cards with archival mist if they are acidic, after testing them with an acid pen, and then use them. I have found that the price of the card is not always a good indicator of acid content. I have found acid free cards priced really low, and high, so testing them is the safest way. Love Penny

Probably because of the stage in life we're at, probably 90% of the cards we receive are photo cards with people's kids on them. So they can't really be used as gift tags, though that is a cute idea and now I'll see if any of ours can be re-used that way. I have a hard time throwing away photo cards especially of friends and family -- just seems cold -- so I usually save them in a drawer for a year or two, THEN toss them. The funny thing is when we get photo cards from DH's coworkers and my kids are like, "who the heck is that?" I agree that I am not too interested in the pictures of random coworkers' families but it seems to be a thing in DH's office -- SO many of them exchange cards and I only know who a few of them are.

Whenever someone sends me a card, I crop out the saying that's in the inside and try and reuse it. If it's not salvageable but I like the saying I'll print it off the computer onto a textured/patterened paper and go that route.
I also use stamps quite a bit as well.
