Copier paper

I'm fairly new to scrapping and have a question. Is regular copier paper acid free? I'm getting some great pics of my neice and nephews over the net and would like to use them if I can. Am finally off tomorrow night and am planning on movies and scrapping until about 5 am. Everyone is invited!...jill

Dear Jill,
I thought all copier paper was acid free BUT recently I used some labels for a copier/printer and they tested positive for acid, so I would just invest in an acid testing pen ( about $2.00) to be sure. Also is dinner coming with that invite, I am a lousy cook. Penny who would come if she could.

I have the barbecue ready and we can have brats and corn on the cob. I don't drink beer, but have acquired a taste for this stuff called Mike's Hard Lemonade...downright tasty!

As far as dioxins, 1) the industry has moved away from chlorine bleaching, 2) the amounts formed were miniscule to begin with, and 3) any dioxins formed in a plant still using chlorine, would be divided in some ratio between the paper and the sludge/wastewater from the paper plant. Furthermore, did you know there are detectable (tiny but detectable and higher than in paper) dioxins in fish, dairy products and other foods? They're everywhere. I'm not going to worry about them getting into my tomatoes at toxic levels through compost. More science on this available on request.

The only thing I can think of is that printer cartridge inks use plastic or rubber for ink. That is why these toners come in form of ink dust which when heated adheres to the paper. So what does that do when the paper decomposes? Does the plastic remain in the ground? Ianna

Here's the flip side: There are always office gatherings--a little party when somebody's leaving to have a baby or take a new job, a holiday gathering, etc. Your "pod mates" always need the small plates, napkins, etc. (decorations, too) for those "bring in some cookies" moments, but just who steps up to make sure you have these things? And when one party's over, you know another one will come someday, so who steps up to store these necessities? Most people, it seems to me, always think someone else will take care of them and be the "mom" and have these things. That was your friend. After an entire floor of my office building was renovated, my co-workers and I moved back to a redesigned space, schlepping all our stuff back up. We had 3 small Staples cardboard boxes (as opposed to the legal-size storage boxes) full of cups, napkins, plates, utensils, serving utensils. It's not the stuff you want to throw out, because we do reach for those things all the time (like when we order pizza--you need plates and napkins, or Chinese and the delivery people forget utensils). But somebody has to step up and be the keeper of this stuff. Other than the plunger, there's nothing really surprising on that list. Now if you found a half-eaten sandwich, then you'd have something to write home about.

LOL...cuz...could we be related....hehe...I've been trying hard to get ready for Christmas party..with Dorothy, her daughters Deb Denise and DeAnn...Rushing, tired I knocked over an ice cream bucket full of nails, small screws, small nails, hundreds of them...all over..I swept some of them up that fell on the kitchen floor...but the ones that flew into the pantry I swept up with a lot of dog dirt and threw away..Did that last night late and should have been in bed. Cousin Dorothy didn't get to come...she's been really sick. And I forgot to send her gifts from me with her daughter...but that's okay..one of them wore their snowboots home and forgot their shoes....lol Ia cuz

You all sound like my kind of friends!! I love raspberry lemonaide and tea!!! I love the party idea!! Let's have one on the internet! Anyone have any ideas on how to do it?? :)

Jill- look at the info on the copier paper...some are acid free! I bought a bunch of different kinds at Walmart that was! I bought some with beautiful pictures. Used some with roses cut the roses out and used on other paper to decorate with! Have fun!!

Dear Jill,
I am sorry I didn't realize you were speaking of the pattern copier paper at Wally World. TO the best of my knowledge it is safe to use and acid free. I have most all the patterns myself and love them. They do have however some solid colors that are marked acid free and some that are NOT marked acid free. Crayola brand for example is not marked acid free. I have not purchased it due to the fact that it does not say acid free anywhere on it, and I tried to contact them through their website to find out and I found it in terrible condition with links that went no where and it was not easy to use. It maybe just a webtv thing, but I could not get through to them to ask if indeed it was acid free or not. Do any of your know? Penny

Penny, I was asking about any copier paper, not just Wally World's. There's a store out her called Meijer's which seems to have better prices, open 24 hours (yea!), and has a grocery in it. We never had these out in Callifornia! But I haven't bought any yet. Think I'm going to invest in that marker like you suggested, though. That will solve a lot of questions for me. Thanks everyone for the tip. I'd best go take a nap so I can go to work tonight. Sat up until 8am scrapping again, but have done about 16 pages in 2 days!
