OK - I think this has been discussed and I myself have thought this over. My KD indicated that for stability of the bigger drawers, you need 2 - otherwise if you just have one in the middle it would place stress on the glides that are on each end. Now, personally, I don't know if I believe that, but of course, I am a kitchen/cabinet amateur. I think that pulling with one pull/one hand is easier but not recommended.

In the Kitchen magazines that I have seen, most are showing
2 pulls on the longer drawers.

For 4 years, I lived in a house with 36" drawers. Each drawer only had one pull. I had one of the drawers loaded with pots and pans. I never had a problem opening the drawer, nor did I ever have a problem with the glides. I would opt for 1 pull.

i prefer the look of two, but i've never done a pull as large as 6".

I have 2 knobs on my 36" drawers.

I have one on all my drawers. Today's glides do not require two. If you want two because you like the look, then put two. I not only prefered the look of one, but with all the drawers in my kitchen that would have meant buying a lot more pulls. Plus with two pulls, you either have to use two hands, or only use one pull anyway, and that pull isn't centered, so to me, that's harder on the drawers, isn't it?

My cabinet guy says he prefers to put two pulls on long drawers, but I think two will look funny
Keep in mind, it's your kitchen, not his. He's welcome to put two pulls in his kitchen, but you get to call the shots in yours.

Abbycat...that's a 33" drawer? Well..maybe my cab guy was right then! That's a really long drawer and a long pull...my pulls are not that long. It might look funny to have a single shorter pull.

I like the look of two so we have 2 pulls on drawers wider than 27". Here are 3 drawer sizes: 24" with one pull, 33" with two pulls, & 36" with two pulls. Sorry about the shadows...one of the drawbacks of taking pictures at night w/o the flash using just the recessed lights!

We have only one long drawer front, and that is the tip-out tray underneath the sink. I did not want two pulls, as I am using knobs. Our cabinet guy ordered a small brushed nickel appliance handle (14") to use as a pull. It is exactly what I envisioned, and we can use it to hang a drying cloth.

What about when the pull is fairly clunky, such as a bin pull? Buehl's are delicate, and abbycat's are very simple and clean. I'm debating the same question but with bin pulls and wondering if two looks like I'm trying too hard to be country (if that makes any sense).

two pulls is much more traditional-looking, and i think with bin pulls that's what you're going for. two pulls gives a more furniture-like look, i think.

If you have 2 pulls on a drawer, then I assume you should be opening the drawer using two hands - which I don't see myself doing. If a two pull drawer is constantly opened using just one pull, wouldn't that damage the draw or unbalance it over the long term.

One long pull is a more contemporary design and functions well. I've had a kitchen with that look but in my new kitchen we're doing a vintage feel and i'm using 2 cup pulls on all the drawers but will be getting some very antique handles for my pantry and cupboard and will only do one of those (but they have a backplate and so would be too much with 2). I agree with the poster who said on today's cabs you don't need to worry with damaging the glides. I love revans1 red cabs (above) and those pulls are perfect for that look. They're so sturdy, you wouldn't need two. Do what you love.

Thanks for all your input and pictures!! It has really helped me with my decision. I am going to go with one pull. The pulls I love come in two lengths, so I think I'll use the 6" pulls on the bottom cabs and drawers, and use the shorter ones on the top cabinets. I believe it will look fantastic. I'll post pictures of it .....some day. lol!! These things do take time, don't they??

Why don't you use something like these colossus pulls. They come in a several finishes and are 12".
