So frustrated I want to throw my machine out the window

I have a Euro Pro 372H that was given to me years ago and I never used it. I finally pulled it out today to do some stitching on some cards. Got everything threaded, started on a scrap card (16 needle), sew it about an inch then stopped.

Pulled everything out, oiled it, threaded it back up, started sewing again, needle broke.

Changed out needle to a 14, threaded it back up, started sewing some scrap fabric, sewed about an inch, stopped.

Top thread was a mess down in the bobbin. Cleared everything out, threaded top thread through, and now for over two hours I've been trying to get it to pick up the bobbin.

I've read like twenty articles, gone over everything in the manual repeatedly trying to figure out where I've gone wrong, and watched 5 or 6 youtube videos that show me nothing but what I've been doing.

I'm pulling my hair out and ready to take a hammer to this machine. I don't have anyone to ask in person so I have to rely on the web.

For the love of Pete could someone please help me????

Make sure your needle is now all the way.
Check the bobbin area and be sure all the thread is out where the nest was. Then take the bobbin out of the case, when the bobbin is in the case and facing you, see if when you pull the thread it pulls off the bobbin COUNTERclock wise.
Is the thread in the take up lever? Is the needle bent? If that all checks out, I have no idea. I usually take a few minutes/hours and walk away do something else and try again. It is so frustrating when you cannot fix things...usually it is a small item I missed. Good luck

Nope nothing. I've tried everything. My husband even went through every step in the machine manual and he couldn't get it either. The needle thread just isn't picking up the bobbin I've put it in the machine just the way the manual says. I have a brand new needle. I've tried a different bobbin. It just isn't working. How does something that should take 30 seconds end up taking seven hours and still not work. I hate this thing. I'm going to get a drink.

tcamp, my NJ Citrus are getting kicked out TOMORROW! So DONE with this Winter, our minimum was only 15 F. but Feb. had persistent deep snow and March was COLD. Doodle, I get that it is hard for two parents together as well. BTDT too lol. It's not easy for anyone or any situation. Sometimes hearing the other side (well when neither side is a whack job, but rather normal human beings with flaws) helps. I've been there with DD and family only wanting to see her when I call for babysitting. This wasn't her father, but it is the same principle. If you don't call to see her on your own, then why would I continue to do it. I already feel guilt having to ask for babysitting all the time, if you're not calling on your own, then that signifies you don't want time and only doing a favor for me. That's how I see it. I can't imagine anyone DD's father telling me or expressing that he wishes I called him to see if he wants more time. I can't. That just seems so backwards. Ceph doesnt have to see it different ways and can blame whoever she wants and vent away, we all need to sometimes. But it doesn't solve anything or take away her feeling of a trainwreck about to happen. Oh and my father, god love him, is a father to kids not his. We don't have a great relationship, but I will give him that, when he gets involved with women he takes in their kids like his own. My uncle was a stepfather to two kids in his first marriage and he put them through college, bought their first cars and taught how to drive, walked one down the aisle, been there for birth of her kids etc she still calls him dad. And I actually, I know quite a few men who have done that too. I thought that was more in the realm of normal than not? Especially with the new face of blended families.

Thanks, Mikomum. ;) Actually we often agree, and when we disagree it's usually opposite ideas for the same reason, which is wildly entertaining and gives lots of perspective to the issues. :) The dishwasher placement does make sense for your reasons, though I totally agree about the panel. What about the trash though? The number one thing that moves the prep cook in the tiny kitchens I grew up in isn't the water, it's the garbage! I agree that having a kid crossing behind with clean dishes while you're working at the sink would be bad, but if you'll be doing the cutting, peeling, etc., at the island, it still might work to switch it with the trash. Just saying... Because if the DW works first from the corner (though only get-at-able from the sink side and front), then the garbage will be accessible from outside of the work zone, and the sink can slide over a bit. This is all about your own priorities, however, and how your family works. Do try to eliminate any age specific issues (e.g., it doesn't take nearly as long for a 15 year old to empty the DW as a 10 year old), but you have to do what you know will work for you best. Re the microwave, by the fridge is where I like it. Are you sure the corner is the best place for breakfast prep? I've always put the toaster by the microwave, and find the corner a place where things go to hide (my corner is similar to yours in many ways). Rhome warned me that this would happen, and I opened it up as much as I could, but still... Actually, I do think the blender might be good in that corner, but in the plan as it looks currently on the page, I'd think the toaster would be migrating to in front of the windows... I'd try to keep breakfast to next to the fridge, though you might not have room for everything there in the amount of space you have to work with.

Nothing yet! We are still waiting for the insurance settlement to get things started. Our kitchen was ordered back in April and is expected to be delivered by June 9th. Our contractor is scheduled for the week of June 12th. But the reconstruction and repair of our walls, moldings, floors, etc, has not started yet and may force us to delay the kitchen install. We were told that the work may start this coming Monday which would be great, as that would keep us on schedule. I am trying to be hopeful. I now have everythingvelse picked out except the backsplash. My Kitchen floor will be grouted Alterna vinyl in Sistine White. The ajacent dining room floor will be Mirage Maple Sonora hardwood... and I already shared the Basset dining table which has been ordered. I just can't wait to get back home, especially to all my newly designed rooms!

I had a similar problem when I took my machine out to us for the first time in years. I ended up taking in for service and it still works beautifully today. That was about 15 years ago. A serviceman can clean it up, oil it and adjust it for you. He'll do all the things you might not think of.

Silly question but are you sure the needle is in the right direction? It's possible to put it in backwards and it'll never work.

Hope the drink helps lol but I personally cannot sew after I drink (tho you aren't doing any sewing unfortunately). Once I had a couple beers & sewed. Threw away my $100 walking foot! Had to dig it out of the trash. No more booze & sewing for me. Good luck with your machine, hope you can get it running.

Check out your upper thread tension. If it is too loose it will create a birdsnest on the bottom of the fabric so you may think it has to do with the bobbin and it is actually the top thread.

Also check for bent needle and if the needle is in the clamp correctly. Check that you have the machine threaded correctly

I am not familiar with your machine but when my Janome 6600 started doing a similar thing....bobbin thread not being picked up and other bad things....I found a small nick/rough spot on the bobbin CASE. Don't know how it got there but I just filed it down with an emery board and all was good. Run your finger around the outside of the bobbin case and if you feel a rough spot, smooth it out. Not sure how that affects things but it worked for me.
Hope this works for you. At least it is something else to try before chunking it out the window!

If the needle is not picking up the bobbin thread, the needle thread is not making the full rotation around the bobbin and that usually means the thread is hanging up halfway around the bobbin casing and collecting in loops.

My new machine (Singer)has a drop-in bobbin with a transparent plate over it, so what was happening was easy to see. It wouldn't be with a side mount bobbin or a metal slide over it. You may want to pull back the slide and turn the wheel a full rotation and watch what is transpiring with the loop of needle thread. Sounds to me like it is catching somewhere on the bobbin chase.

When this happens to me, it's usually caused by the (oh gosh I don't know the technical term for it) lever what goes up and down holding the thread as it drops down the front of the machine. It has usually had too much slack and slipped off, totally screwing up the upper tension.

Another time it was because when I seated the bobbin it was not seated all the way into the spindle and protruded too much. This new machine just has a very tricky tension and it does this occasionally with no particular reason. Othewise it's a fun machine.

Watch to see what is going on when the needle thread makes that rotation around the bobbin to catch the bobbin thread if you can. I think you'll see it isn't completing it.

Now you probably know why whoever gave you machine, got rid of it! LOL

I'd just take it to the repair shop and let the professional worry about it. Then I'd make sure he told me if it was anything I was doing wrong. It could be probably benefit from being serviced anyway. Good luck!

(Oh, when I do any free-motion quilting, I benefit from having a big glass of white wine at the ready! I've been known to holler down the stairs to DH, "bring more wine!" I get too tense, otherwise.) :)

well flamingo maybe I'll take up free-motion quilting. Tho I've tried it once or twice and have to say, I am not talented or patient enough for it. I can see where a drink would help, free motion is hard!

OP, I hope you've gotten your machine running and haven't thrown it out that window yet!
