It is too @&$*ing cold here on the east coast to come out of lurkdom. You, jessiecarole, are quite an enticement.

You haven't chased me off -- I just haven't had anything to say lately! I love your sense of humor and enjoyed it a while back when you were sparring with Tinmantu. HVAC guys should always be teased on a regular basis!! Speaking of which, where has he been? Did he and Kay escape winter by running off to some tropical island? And if so, how come they left us behind?

Have a good weekend!!

How Many Plants Have You Killed?
Q

I am afraid I'm as guilty as anyone here when it comes to having some plants die on me. There has been a lot going on in my life recently and unfortunately many of my plants have suffered. I lost one of my favorite streptocarpuses and also one of my chimeral African violets that I've had for many years. I have a saying that many plants have given their lives for my education. When I started out growing plants I killed most of them out of ignorance. Unfortunately now when I kill a plant it's usually more out of neglect, which is more of an embarrassment. :o( Fortunately my African violets and gesneriads are pretty tough plants and take quite a bit of abuse before they succumb. Life looks like it is going to be a lot less eventful and return somewhat back to normal. I know, famous last words. lol But hopefully my plants will soon reap the benefits. Larry PS - Yes, Cena does know where I live. She was nice enough to go out of her way to visit my wife and me one afternoon when she was in the area. We then showed her around our house that we affectionately refer to as the North Denver Conservatory. It is a great house for plants with its wonderful windows. Cena was quite gracious with her complements. I love you too Cena.

Your Catt looks fine. The slight discoloring was probably caused by increasing the light a little too fast. Catts should be a nice medium green when given enough light. If they get yellow, then they need more shade. Congrats on the Miltonia, yes they do have a great fragrance. Buy a few hundred more and then you will be addicted :>) Brooke

If your canner is a Presto then spend the $12-15 to buy the 3 weight set. That way you don't have to worry about getting the gauge tested and can just ignore it. The weight set is discussed here in many threads. If another brand with a gauge then you may be forced to have your gauge tested regularly to be safe. But I am more concerned about your inability to control the stove heat and prevent the radical pressure changes that causes the siphoning. Is the stove gas or electric? It does take some practice sessions with the canner and just some jars of water in it but it shouldn't be that difficult to control your pressure. All the way on until your t10 min. of continuous venting is done, then put the weight on and as soon as the pressure gauge reaches 11 bls., slowly begin to reduce the heat in small increments. Hope this helps. Dave PS: As to the "cool air on the jars" bit - yes, instructions say to "not expose them in a draft to cool" but they do need to be out of the canner and on to the kitchen counter. ;)

So...I have taken a good look at them (those I did not apply the iron/acidic solution to are just fine, green, etc.). And I do think I burned them----maybe put too much on. thanks to your suggestions and the reminder that the root system is so shallow, I flooded them with water, hoping to flush the remainder away. They are not drooping but the leaves are turning yellow to red and dropping, not just at the tips and not just at the bottom. I did overburden them by the amendment with the cool nights and sunny dry days. thanks for your help and I will take picts if they bloom out this year as they did last year.

O.K. How many of us are out here lurking. My excuse, my teenager keeps changing the computer security so I can't log in to post. I just changed the settings so I can come out of "lurkdom".

I'm having a blast (sarcasm) with my 17 yr old now, char....IMO, the way to deal with teens is to bury them when they are 12, and dig them up when they turn 20 :)

no picture yet Walks, but I am in a better mood. How goes the dog shopping?

I agree chargreen! All lurkers will come forward and make yourselves known NOW!

Candler (is that right?) I saw you on another thread. Are you out there? Your member page doesn't say much. Which reminds me that I need to update my own page.

I did not take my camera to work yesterday (I was having a RosannaDanna hair day) but I did talk to the family about me coming to stay a few nights a week so that they could get some sleep. I need to stay busy this time of the year. Summer, I can wear myself out in the garden.

Why is it that they only want to talk to you when you are using the phone or the computer? I was totally alone until I sat at the computer. Got a big shovel? A backhoe maybe?
jessiecarole, old age starts the minute you have children. ;O)

I'm behaving here today...But I can't allow you to have the last word on this thread, or your claim to being the thread killer will just allow your ego to grow even more and hurt MY reputation for being the true thread killer....now stop posting on here and let me kill it, dangit! :)
