Sweetbean I just went through this in our small 11'x11' DR that was largely over furnished with a lot of "this n that" - part of our entire home reno was out with it ALL! Yea DR set, 2 sideboards - one that matched the set, on that was a beast & did not - a PIANO , a beautiful built in I searched, searched , searched - DON"T give up - You will find a table/chairs I scoured all ads, and Craigslist - what I found were LOTS of DR Sets - I'm close to NYC and found people giving high quality sets away - I think people are moving away from formal DRs blowing kitchens into DRs So my advice is don't settle - live without and enjoy the hunt I did. I found a Duncan Phyfe Mahogany set which is really what I wanted - our house dutch col 1930 so it suited the home as well as the small scale of our DR - it was dirty, dirty dirty - I'm still working on cleaning waxing -It is really well made & found incredible fabrics on ebay that were really reasonable - so they will get a big face lift. The owners were asking $2,200 for the set - DR table, 4 side chairs, 2 arms - mirror ,sideboard, and tall china cab I didn't want the china cab (we have lovely built in) got them to $1300 Dh thought i was crazy - wait til he sees it in DR Here is a pic in the prior owners DR In my almost completed DR chair w/proposed fabric sitting on it Guess I wanted to inspire you - I know the furnishings aren't your choice but to illustrate they are out there - get on a mission Link to craigslist good luck eileen Here is a link that might be useful: Craigslist

Thanks Mitch I found it and sent one! Nanny - Thanks for clearing that decorator fabric thing up for me! I wondered but felt kind of goofy asking. Unless someone else discovers a great new fabric to add to the mix I think I'll leave the choices down to the dot and first stripe fabric! Jejvtr - Here's a pic of the stripe with the window treatment material. I don't have a sample of the first stripe pic. I found it on House Fabric.com and it's called Saxton Stripe Spice. I don't think JoAnn has the sample. I believe I can order one from House Fabric though though. There isn't trim attached to the valance yet as I'm not sure if I want to use this gold, a different tassel, or coordinating fabric. I'll take a pic tonight of the valance near the door with the chair and fabric sample. The windows in the door are very dirty at the moment and I was trying to hide them. :P

mitchdesj, it's funny you say English style, because that is something I would really like to achieve. I think I've watched too many episodes of "Relocation, Relocation". Like Jenny says it is very RL. Oceanna, the baseboards are actually hot water radiators. They give great heat and look kind of cool to boot. They are brass under the paint and DH keeps hinting he might eventually strip them. The wall colour has been great, but we've had it for almost 10 yrs now so we are ready for a change - back to neutral. sujafr, I am really wrestling with that whole idea. I know I will love either of those florals for a few yrs but a neutral would be so much more practical. The dark floral is so distinct, it will really dictate how I can decorate. But then again, it is a style of chair that would lend itself to slipcovering down the line. Rosewind, I really appreciate your comments on the big florals always being in style. It pushes me a little closer to choosing something more dramatic. Funny you should say that about the stripe. It is the stripe that is recommended to go with that floral, but I didn't like it much either. I preferred a much different one with wider stripes and a brighter green. I just ran across a Mario B. quote about how to achieve the English look - something about getting the perfect mix of fabric and antiques and then locking 2 poodles in the room for a weekend. Thanks totallyblessed. I am really surprised so many like that print. I showed it to my DH (who actually has pretty good taste) and he absolutely hated it. But like a good husband, he has come around having seen how much I like it.

Ok, I've been thinking about this room all day. LOL I even went through a ton of fabrics to try to find something I could recommend. The problem is, I don't think the tones in the photo of the curtains is coming across very well so it's making it near impossible. If you can take a really good clear crisp photo of the fabric in a flat position (drape it over the chair) that may help. The other thing I really feel the need to throw out there is overall the room is just lacking color and I don't think canning the red is necessarily the answer. I know you said you've grown tired of it, but maybe that's because that's all there is. Why not just keep the red and bring in a 3rd color to the mix. Olive Green, Navy Blue? Rule of thumb is to have your colors in odd numbers so you really need a 3rd color anyway. You don't even necessarily have to reupholster the chair to accomplish this. You could just bring in some color with the use of pillow covers, a new rug and even paint. If the chair print isn't working with the drapes, add some separation by putting a throw in a contrasting color over the back of it. That said, if you still really want to change the fabric on the chair, post up a new photo, there are several of us who just love to shop fabrics, we just need a really good picture to do it with. :c)
