New eBay find leads to new window treatments!
Comments (37)Wow - you all are making me feel like I have a lot more Valentines this morning! Red hit the name on the head, I realized. I buy things 'within a certain parameter', and that is why they work. I can swap things out from room to room, and they take on a new light when they are moved. I guess it says that I have 'flow', since I am able to do that. :-) Cooperbailey, my mother jokingly calls me house 'the museum', as I do enjoy old things so much. anele has almost discovered my secret business name! My 3 dogs DO participate in the production of anything I sew. When I used to lay fabric on the floor in here, you could count on 3 dog butts quickly gathering and weighting it down while I tried to match patterns, etc. And that was the previous generation of my 3 other Brittanys. Now that I cut on the kitchen island, all these can do is lay on the fabric as it drapes onto the floor from my lap as I sew, and believe me, they do. Among friends and family, I said I'd call it 'Dog Bottom Decor'! My 3 Dogs Designs is a MUCH nicer image. Here is the front window this AM. I had to close the blinds to take a picture against the light outside. Since you all know that I am of the 'more is more' school, this is the front of my 10x25 living room, with my wonderful Romweber entertainment center purchased years ago on sale. I took a quick inventory this AM, and of all the 'stuff' in the room, that piece, 2 chairs and 3 lamps and 2 art pieces are the ONLY pieces not bought on CL, eBay or a local consignment shop. I can't resist showing you the sweet toddler picture of my late Dad, who passed away 3 years ago today. My mother gave it to me recently, and I looked around and set it on the Chinoiserie desk, never dreaming that I'd soon make drapery panels that would compliment his outfit!...See MoreNeed help with window treatments for a 5-part bay window
Comments (1)I would look at roller shades and maybe even the possiblity of battery powered ones. They will give you a clean look and clear view of your window openings. If you want curtains, you can use an iron rod and have it bent to the corners of your bay windows. Use a mount at either end and 1 in the middle (screw it in place so the rod doesn't move). You can then close the curtains to the center of the opening without any major issues....See MoreAdvice Needed on Window Treatments for a Bay Window
Comments (6)I have a very similar window in my family room but, since it faces the woods, I leave it free of treatments and hang my sculpture pieces in it. I do have an idea though. Get regular drapes for each side and add a valence across the middle. You can place them higher on the wall than the window frame but not so high as to allow the top of a shade to show. When I did mine in my bedroom I did just that and then added duette fabric blinds that matched the drapes in color and also a room darkening shade on a rod that jutted out a bit more. That way, during the day I raise the shade and the fabric blind gets raised half way. In the evening I pull down both of them. You need to use a rod for the valence and drapery that extends out far enough to compensate for the two treatments that will be under the valence. Have I made that too complicated? It's actually very easy and I found it to be the most reasonable way. I bought the curtains at Country Curtain and the darkening shades and fabric blinds at Lowes....See Morewindow treatment for bay window
Comments (10)I would suggest Hunter Douglas cellular shades for each window. They have several styles to choose from. They should be mounted into the ceiling and measured and hung professionally. The measure would fit each window individually and perfectly. You could have just top down or top down bottom up which would give you the most flexibility. If you choose, you could do a simple valance at the top, inside the bay, to hide the hardware....See MoreRelated Professionals
