The Lord God himself said that. And very early in his epistle -- the second chapter of the first book.

Is it also not good that woman should be alone?

This woman has had her fill of being alone. This woman will not spend another holiday alone. This woman will not spend another weekend alone. This woman will not eat another meal alone. This woman will not go on any more trips alone.

I'm about to go pick up one of those men along the side of the road holding up signs just so I won't be alone. Is there any alternative? And puhleeze tell me something I've not already done or heard about.

I will not continue this aloneness.

When you find the solution, consider writing a book about it, publish it and get rich. There are MILLIONS of lonely men and women in your shoes who are looking for a warm body to hold.

There is no 'solution' until you meet someone you click with. Perhaps find a gal-pal to hang out with or volunteer at a center that caters to single people until you meet your man-match.

If you are looking for a man to hang out with, try someplace like the singles sites. The site 'Plenty of Fish.com' comes to mind - it's free. If you aren't too particular, Craigslist.org has LOTS of desperate men to talk to - it's also free and so are the men.

Hang out at your local truck stop for some instant dating - those guys are usually pretty lonely. Get a job in a men's clothing store or farm implement store. Go through your phone book and find places that cater to men, then hang out there. Better still - love yourself enough to enjoy your own company, then you will find someone when you least expect it. make peace with your "aloneness". if you think you are lonely now, it is 100 times more lonely to be lonely and married. i have been married for 45 years, this is the first time i have been my own boss and i am loving it. i can spend money without being criticized or frowned at. i can go to lunch by myself or with a friend which i had not done but 3 or 4 times in those 45 years. i have an 80 year old friend that is a newly wed and she me told me, never marry. she looked so unhappy.

Good morning all... I got the snafu cleared up with the checks, except I have not contacted Checks Unlimited yet. The customer service lady was very apologetic. Naturally it was not the store's mistake...it was only the check printing company who was at fault. Whoohoo! I have a new perm! I feel like a new person. :-) I enjoy visiting with my hairdresser as much as I enjoy getting a perm. We have so much in common, and talk non stop. She came up with a lot of good information for what I need, with my remoteness and my ailing DH. Her mother had lived with her the past several years, and passed away recently, at 91. One of her suggestions is that I get a Tracfone with prepaid hours, for emergency calls, espacially, both at home and on the road.I plan on checking on that. She admonished me to NOT get on a chair when doing things like the chandelier job, and told me of a neat stepladder that Walmart sells. ( I told her I had stood on a chair for that job.) You gals are all great inablers. and so is she. :-) I took my camera on my trip out, and got more pics of the devestation along the roads and in town. It continues to boggle my mind. I stopped at the One Stop on the way home. One of the local First Responders was there. She pointed out how much worse the fire hazard will be in the woods this year, due to all the downed limbs and trees. As you all know, our home is surrounded by woods! Nothing gives me a greater fear than a wild fire coming through our place. The predicted rain is beginning. There is the possibility of severe weather....hail and tornados! Just what we need! I got more yard work done yesterday afternoon. More limbs put on piles, and some clean-up in both front and back beds. How I hope my strength improves. The pain and fatigue are overwhelming when I try to do such jobs. I feel so sorry for Michelle, and all others who suffer from chronic pain. Only those who do so can understand what it is like. And the sad thing is...the difficulty definitely increases as one ages. 20 years ago I was doing many of the same things that you all are doing now. I scoffed at the older ladies who kept saying..."Wait until you are my age". Of course, having Fibromyalgia, and arthritis at a fairly young age puts one in a differant category than those who have not had such conditions. Honey, I can understand the job at the florist saving your sanity. When I first got on line it was a 'life saver' for me. Being a member of the Idylls was an added help. then when I goofed up here, the other forum that I was posting on was my mind-saver. I fulfilled my needs there, and am very seldom posting there anymore. My mental and physical setbacks are a constant condition that I struggle with. Having a deteriorating Dh adds to the struggle. I feel as though I am at a higher plateau this year, but who knows when I will plunge again? As I said, I work at it constantly, and I have lots of help...some of which is at a much higher plane. :-) The story of the kitten and the mama cat is very heartwarming. It sounds very much like something both Nolon and Tim would do. I am happy that anothr kind soul took them in. I am not able to do the heavy labor that you spoke of , Honey. I once could, but no more....But I do understand how helpful it can be. My finaces prevent me from getting outside help. My houseplants are an aid to my 'therapy', but they are such a drawback when and if I want to go somewhere for a few days. Even if it was not for staying with Nolon, I would have the plants and the cats to be responsible for. Neighbors would willingly tend to the cats, but I would not,could not, expect them to tend to 100 or so potted plants.:-( I appreciate your kind words, Honey. And the kind words of others also. They help sustain me. V, you have a very intriguing house. I love the pics of the stairway.And the paint color is lovely. Michelle, I hope you can keep your vow towards your place. I certainly did not foresee what all has befell both our house, and ourselves. Having sufficient finances to hire help would make a huge differance also. I never realized how badly a house can deteriorate over the years. I had never lived in one this long before. I can certainly understand the condition of your parent's house. I am sure they did not blindly allow it to get in such a condition. Saucy, I will pass on the rats. Our cats are more than I need to maintain. :-) I am afrad the rats rather creep me out! Eden, I love the story about Bella's dream. What a great tribute to her grandmother. Wow, Kathy! You are catching up on the rainfall aren't you. That is great. I am afraid painting is not the solution to our house's needs. There are too many repairs that need done first. About the only things in the interior that could be painted without major repair first is the woodwork and the kitchen cabinets and cupboards. If they were refinished it would perk things up a lot.The cabinet and cupboards need hingework, but otherwise good enameling would really help. Norma, sorry about your friends RA. I know that is a devestating condition, but varies with it's intensity. It was first thought that I had that, but ruled out when I was not showing the conditions that go with it. Your take on Michelle's parents home is similar with mine, and your DH shares Nolon's lack of interest. Of course, now he is unable to do a lot of the things that he once could. Mary, I am so happy that David's activities are looking up. I can hardly imagine what a relief getting back to a more normal day is to you both. And it is great that Annie had such a nice visit at her aunts. I hope the nerve pain is soon gone. There is no worse pain than nerve pain. Marie, you had such a handsome family! How good that the photogapher had the children smiling. All of the old pics of my relatives are so solemn looking. I am not as good at detecting resemblances as many of you are. I do not see my parents in any of my siblings or myself. My brother comes the nearest. He looks guite a bit lok our dad. If he were dressed the same, the resemblance would be more noticable. We do not have the crossbills here. They are farther north, even in the winter. The main bird of that coloring that we have is the purple finches, and they have been rather scarce the past few years. Honey, your check experience was lots more humiliating than mine! I probably would have never returned to that store. Since I have I new hairdo, the folks in that store will not associate the new me with the earlier snafu. :-) Marian

Silver Quite interesting reading. I have thought about EX and how he must feel about DD, or any woman that has been in his life. I do understand the conceptual thinking behind the term "limerance". I had a man that I felt that way about once. I never told him, figuring that if he felt anything for me he would approach me. There were a few mixed signals, I thought but he never made an attempt that was something that I knew for sure showed he was interested in me. He had enough chances to do that and he didn't. He thought of me as a friend or sister I guess. Or he would have gone for a little "roll in the hay" if I would have. He even introduced me to a girlfriend that he began dating and ended up getting her pregnant and they later married. Ouch! With EX's past ( if what he has said is true ) he undoubtedly has great fear of rejection. Again, if what he says is true, he wanted my DD to stay with him, build a future with him and he wanted a family with us. There are too many things though that are negatives to the success of their relationship that he is completely out of touch with which makes me think that he has a break with normal thought processes. This is evident with other actions...his extensive lying and his criminal behavior. My DD did not want to marry or have children ( my goodness, she is only 20 ) and he did. Very much in fact. I don't know that she will ever change her mind but he had said that he would rather have had her and no kids than to not have her at all. I don't know that it would have been something he could have easily lived with though. The age difference is something that was too vast....11 years...when dealing with her age group. Had they met when she was in her 30's or 40's or older then it would not have been as big a deal. I am sorry for him when it comes to honest, heartfelt feelings that he might have had for my DD. The fact that he could install such fear ( and continues to do so ) and the fact that he has told so many lies negates all of that though. It sucks to be rejected. Our family histories have a lot to do with whether or not we can process the rejection in a healthy way. Most of us have been and some of us have stepped over a line while dealing with it that we cringe at after having healed a bit. It is important to teach our kids that when they deal with peers or a romantic interest people have a right to reject them. In the long run it is for the best. I don't know how much EX has control over when it comes to his emotions about the breakup. I am sorry that I can't talk to him. It just can't happen. I want him to get help and to go onto have a happy life. More importantly though I want him to leave my DD alone and let her move on. Thanks for the thread and the link Silversword.

It took a lot of guts to do what you did. I'm interested to know what CPS will do. I didn't think they'd usually get involved over verbal abuse stuff or spanking, pulling, shoving, etc... only physical abuse that may be doctor worthy. Sad, and maybe not right, but that's what I thought. The best thing to get her on may have been her kicking you or, something along the lines of disturbing the public. I wonder if maybe the mother is sleep deprived and or has post partum depression. Maybe if she does, they'll get her some help. A girl I know would tell me how she was always calling her older child an idiot and yelling at her and such when she had PPD; that she would just lose it. After her PPD cleared up, she was back to normal... wonder if that could be part of it. Let us know what happens.

We just got back to Dallas yesterday afternoon so now we are playing again with DGD. We had alot of fun playing with DGSs too. We really enjoyed our trip in NM. The only bad thing has been our time with my parents & that is just something to be expected now. DDIL said that she has seen a side of Dave & I that she would never have seen if she hadn't had had Aubrey. DeeMarie~Sorry that I didn't get to get here to wish you a Happy Birthday. We were playing parents to my parents. I am praying for everyone that needs prayers. Of course, being on the road for a month, we probably have gained weight. But, when we get home, we are going to get serious. I fell again in NM. We had about 2 1/2' of snow & couldn't get up the hill in our SUV so had to park downhill & walk up. My DFIL told Dave to take me back to FL & put me in the bedroom & lock the door. LOL He doesn't want me falling anymore. My foot is still swollen. I saw my sister yesterday & everyone has asked about her. Her throat is still very swollen. She was supposed to go back to work but I wouldn't go back to work & have to drive in the Dallas traffic. She cannot hold her head up 8 hours yet or even turn it that far, I don't think. She has to have another x-ray before she can return to work. She is planning on at least starting 1/2 days, I think. I've been after her not to rush things. They had to take out 2 vertabrae & 3 discs. They had only planned on taking out 1 vertabra. So now she has a plate & a rod. The vertabra under the one they originally planned to take out was so full of cracks that it was about to crumble & it wouldn't hold the screws or whatever they were going to put in the back. We have to go back on Monday & it will be one of the saddest days for me. I love it here & love playing Grandma with the Grandkids. They are such a joy! My oldest DGS said that he loves my laugh! LOL Patti :)

Then, again, Genesis (and the rest of the bible) says an incredible number of demonstrably ridiculous things. Recommend against taking it seriously.

Live a good life. Some things work out. Some don't. Being alone is far better than being with someone who ruins your life.

asolo, you are so right. and the financial is something most women don't think about when they remarry. my sis's friend married for a second time and found out he had filed bankruptcy and had unpaid bills, she had to pay them or ruin her credit. everything you own is half his when you say i do. you can sign a prenuptial but it is just a contract and can be broken. i won' even go into "kids". i paid my husband's care home bill for 9 months @ $4,000. plus per month and i didn't mind, it was his money as much as mine, but can't afford to do it again.

Used to take it seriously. Thought that's what I was supposed to do. Then the rug was pulled out from under me when DH abandoned me about 10 years ago after I had spent 25 years praying every night for my marriage.

I think that particular passage is meant for men and not women. I hear of widowers remarrying quickly. I hardly ever hear of widows remarrying.

Live a good life. Some things work out. Some don't.

It's good advice, but an alone life is not a good life. At least for me.

Being alone is far better than being with someone who ruins your life.

Why would anyone be with someone who ruins their life?

Pretty much the entire thing is written for men....and against women. Women, slaves, livestock, other chattel pretty much all the same throughout.

Clear message to women: Give men pleasure and have children. Other than that you have no purpose.

Well, not really strange at least to me,...but very real. I was married and have never felt so alone. That's the worse feeling because it really limits you ability to go out and make friends and have fun. Plus, it seems a lot of men are controlling (hmmm...like the "passages" described)?
And to make matters even more difficult-many people are difficult to get to know when you are dating, but once you are married you find out you now have some very BIG Problems with this person you thought you knew. (ex. bills, bankruptcy, and obviously my "favorite" the chronic lier.
NO, once I am out of this relationship and I am working on it-that will be all for me. From now on, they can "visit" and when it's fun-great; when it's not-BYE!
Life is short and you get "old" fast so be happy and enjoy yourself and being by yourself-after all-YOU are the only one you can depend on and ever really know.

It is late and I am not sleepy tonight and I am new to this forum.

Eclair why don't you join a dating service such as Yahoo or Match.com? I know quite a few people that have met their soul mate and married and are now very happy.

For pete's sake don't hang out at a truck stop I imagine the poster was being funny, hopefully. I think you might be offered more than their company.

I am single too and I know it is hard to find the right person. But you may have fun in the process having lunch going to the show just doing things together.

Try not to be bitter about your ex husband and move on and enjoy your life. Believe me he is living his and so should you.

I LIKE being alone. It seems the older I get the less I feel weird or that I am lacking something just because I don't "pair up".
Sometimes I wonder if the root of marriage and relationships is the biological urge to procreate, and to an extent simply the inertia of societies' expectation of what is "normal".

Some things I find positive about being single:

1.Making my own schedule: waking, sleeping, eating, working, playing, etc.etc. happen when I want.
2.All of my resources are used to my benefit: My time, money,education, belongings,etc.
Many people give up dreams, hobbies, opportunities because relationships and having children takes the resources.
3.I can maintain relationships with friends: I can visit more, and spend more time with friends.
4. I can travel more.
5. I can be messy/noisy whenever I want. Sometimes I just gotta use the kitchen table to fix a computer or do a wood carving. I can play the guitar at 3 in the morning.
6. I can decorate my house the way I want. Every once in a while I see some of these home decorator shows and couples almost always disagree. Generally it's the wife with her cup cozies, pink curtains and catalog "originality" that wins, and the guy's beer cooler and dart board goes in the trash. (If you like pink curtains and cozies, then more power to you)
7. I can let my big goofy lumbering dog in the house.
8. Peace and quiet when I want. No screaming. No "I thought you were gonna paint the so-n-so today?" or "Go to the store with me, you've got to carry all the stuff I'm gonna buy"

I understand loneliness. I have been lonely, but I've also found that putting my happiness into my own hands, rather than looking for someone else to define or fulfill my needs is very liberating.

For anyone out there who also feels like this here is some good advice. DON'T trade one issue or aggrevation for another. Picking just anyone will just lead to a different type of heartache. Its better to find a way to be a happy single than to be a miserable couple!

43 never married, haven't had a date in over twelve years. Happy and enjoying life. Relationships are good if you can find the right person but horrible if you don't so don't kid yourself into thinking that having a person to eat with, watch tv with etc. is all that matters because when he or she is getting on your last nerve you will regret throwing away the peacful, non drama filled, blissful single life you had for the idot your matched up with now.

I love this thread, I don't think it is a bit strange, I think it's honest. I agree with most everything said. I get lonely especially when I travel, BUT, I was more lonely married and I couldn't travel as much as I can now. I think the women who commented about the bible are very brave, not one person jumped you for being honest. LOL I agree with you.

Don't use the Bible to justify marrying simply for the purpose of not being alone. When a marriage breaks up, both parties have some healing to do. And almost always both parties have some sort of "fixing" to do. Fixing the problems that contributed to the breakup. No matter who was "at fault" both parties should do some figuring out what kind of changes to make to be a better partner in the future. Way to many people jump into relationships and end up making the same mistakes they made in the past.

I don't NEED to marry or date a man. However, it would be nice to find a relationship that is mutually based on WANT not NEED. Relationships based on want are much healthier.

I feel the same way that the passage was written for a man, everything is done in thought of the man and as many have, I was married for 15 years and he cheated and cheated, producing two children from affairs. I WILL NEVER GET MARRIED AGAIN. I have found better comfort in not being married and it is true men live longer when they have a mate. But women do much better and live longer without a husband, which mean we don't need men like they would like us to think we do. I have found an independence and have men trying to date me with me and get into a relationship, not, but I am having fun with just not being attached, and I don't men dating or sleeping around, I mean on my own in my own home, can buy my own cars, motorcycle, anything I want and do not have to look for any man to do it. I AM VER HAPPY NOT BEING MARRIED.
