Copying B&W photos

This might be a dumb question, but here it is anyhow. My mil gave me some old b&w of her parents and fil when he was a boy etc. One photo was a colourized b&w. I want to make a few photocopies of these photos to put in several albums. My question is this: do I just get them photocopied, or do I get colour copies made? I'm thinking that I need to get colour copies. Am I right?

Although I haven't done this yet with my B&W pics. I was told to do them in color, especially if you have colorization in them or sepia. I did have an old document copied in color and where the paper was yellowed that shows on the color copy, so I think if your B&W have any yellowing or discoloration this would show on a color copy. I would try one pic both ways and see how they come out, the color copies are a lot more expensive, but worth it.

Dear Kelly,
I made color copies of some old black and whites of my brother as a baby and I scanned them on the computer that had a touch up feature in it and it cleaned up a lot of the yellowing, creases, etc. I was also able to crop it on the computer and enlarge the image. I was great. After I was happy with the adjustsments I had made with the computer I changed the printer paper to picture paper made for printers. WHile it does not look exactly like a photo from a film place it does look a lot better than it did to begin with. Penny

I'm guessing this is what you're wanting to do. What I did: Open the color picture in your program. Copy or open the same picture on top of the 1st one. Change the top picture to black & white. Then, using the Eraser option, erase the areas you want to have color. I use an older version of Adobe PhotoDeluxe, but I'm sure you can do it in whatever program you're using. I'd say it's pretty much the same procedure. You're going to need two copies of the color picture, change the top one to b/w and just remove the areas where you want color.

The pictures won't budge to either upload or download them. I wonder if you might be able to just drag and drop them into 'Your Pics' on your computer. It looks like there are some folks from the Admin Group (ArcSoft_Jason) who have some recent replies answering questions. That's such a wonderful undertaking, writing your husband's biography. Hopefully there is some way of rescuing the pics from their captivity on your computer. Know any young geeks? Some kids/teens seem to be able to do so much on computer, without any real training. Tomorrow is another day and maybe things will work out. Yes, maybe tomorrow it will all work out. Hope so. Sue You don't sound grouchy...but I'm sure you are quite disappointed and aggravated about the many old pics you can't access. Good luck.

Scanning and enhancing a B&W photo to read date

Hi Sandra, I own an Epson 4490 Photo scanner and just place my photo on the bed and when my warm up light stops blinking, I push the button, it then opens my program. Then I choose Photogragh and click on preview to scan so my picture appears so I can do my cropping (see the dotted frame around pic) and what other adjustments if needed. Then I click on Scan for my final. I pick Printer so it scans LARGE for easier editing and print outs and I can make it smaller after, if I choose to send in e-mail or post on a forum. I shall upload a screen shot with further descriptions hoping it makes sense to help in any way. By choosing Printer, the cropped picture went from 2550x3509 pixels to 900x1183 cause you do NOT want to scan the bed along with your photo making the photo tiny and all in all a humongous file. If I chose screen/web, the picture would be 297x373 pixels which is WAY TOO small to be of value. Urlee

Breezygirl, it should work the same in Ipad 1 if your system is current. .? Historically, I've only been able to get my pics to upload using the Direct Link wrapped in the symbols as is hopefully showing up in the pic below. I think this method is what throws my pic bigger and makes the text of all other entries smaller. I had photos of my parents that were black and white, but tinted. They were 8x10 photos.

I took them to Kinko and had color photo copies of them done on glossy paper. They turned out great and look just like the originals.
