What style sofa works with this dining room set?

I fell in love with the Crate & Barrel Basque dining set for my beach house (lots of white, need something darker to ground) but after much research found that the wood on table is so soft its a scratch nightmare. Even the table on display was horribly scratched.

So I found a similar set at World Market with their Napa collection.

For the living room of this same large space I am looking for a cream leather sofa (kids, dogs, messy hubby). I currently have a fabric sofa that is only a few months old and completely filthy.

So..I need a white or cream leather sofa to "go with" this dining set..doing a modern rustic beach house theme.

Would love some suggestions :O)

Well, the paneled leg and skirt on the table are French-influenced, but the scale is beefier. It looks like a Western Regional furniture along the lines of Thomas Molesworth which is cabin- or ranch-deco, from the thirties and forties. (although the Molesworth is definitely more individual)-there is definitely a deco or moderne influence to the pieces along with a vaguely Native American medallion motif and "cloud lift" thing going on with the back rail. My guess is it could be any time in the mid century from forties to sixties.

It's the scale of the lamps that you need to concentrate on the most. I've found that most homeowners tend to purchase lamps that are too short/small. I use 28"-30" as my guide. I rarely use shorter than 28" unless maybe in a bedroom or for an occasional table, and over 30" starts to look odd in most homes. If you're looking at a lamp in person, rather than online (which has the measurements) just measure from the top of the shade down to the table. Also, purchasing inexpensive end tables and lamps first can really help change the look of a room, while you're saving up for the more expensive items (sofa, nice coffee table). Here's a before/after of a living room I did for a homeowner, where all I added were lamps, end tables and throw pillows (just reworked her other items). The end tables I used are really great, they work with a lot of furniture styles, plus they have a shelf and they're less than $100. I use them with a lot of clients! Since end tables don't get a lot of abuse, a "cheaper" one is a real budget saver. Great End Table As you can see in the Before, this furniture is large and overstuffed. A too small lamp would look silly. Using the above linked end tables and 30" lamps: You can use an end table like those (they're 24" high) and the proper size lamp, and it will work with just about any sofa you choose. Also, when choosing throw cushions I would get rid of the two red cushions on your sofa, and replace with a neutral. Maybe throw in a lumbar on one of your two chairs. And here's a room (while we were rearranging furniture) where the homeowner's furniture was not oversized/overstuffed. As you can see, these same end tables come up higher on her sofa, but still work. I can't remember how tall these lamps were, probably around 27"-28".

I think you have to decide if you want a formal set and then imagine how it will work with a teak floor, the casual fireplace, white bookcases, and the space in general. Suggest something more contemporary and perhaps more similar to what you normally lean towards. Mixing and matching allows a table to take on different looks, so easier to end up with a set that suits your taste

It’s seems like a pretty adaptable set, but without seeing the room/adjoining space, hard to be specific. Is room navy/are you interested in white with the blue in the accents. You could paint the chairs or table white for a more casual coastal feel. Reupholstering the chairs and accessorizing will be key.

Good find but that is the Florence chair in fabric: The Florence Sofa in Leather is $5300. They trick you.

Ouch! Okay that is a bit more than I wanted to spend..maybe around $2500ish?

Check out Room and Board. American Leather makes some of their leather sofas and they are a bit more approachable price wise.

I would try to find a color other than cream/white anything light. I think it will not hold up to all the wear and tear you say you have w/kids, dogs, etc.
I avoided a cream leather and I'm the only person who will be using it on a regular basis. Almost all the sales reps said it will definately show wear sooner than a dark shade.
Could you find a camel color, a lime green, a pretty soft gray, that would work w/the dining set?

Are you anywhere near Toronto? Check out UpCountry if you are, they have a 6,000 sq foot store with many fabulous modern/transitional sofas. I bought one of my sofas there on a road trip about 10 years ago. Prices are reasonable if not cheap. Unfortunately their web-site doesn't have a detailed listing of their products - but check out the Union Jack sofa! Very cool. I bet that one isn't cheap.

What about slip covered sofas? The white Ikea ones could even be tea-dyed if you want a tan/natural color.

I have a 12 year old white leather sofa and love seat. Granted I live alone but I have 7 grand kids 6 of them boys who visit often, and my dog and visiting dogs....well you get the idea.
Good leather wipes clean. The back cushions are getting saggy, but the leather is great.
Here's an option...I'll bet they will deliver!
