Comments (0)I live in a large 40 year old colonial which has 2 porches and has a cherry-ish stained wood on the front, side and garage doors. It also has a portico over the front door, and a columned porch on one side both of which are trimmed in a light color. I have narrowed down the color 'family' that I want to paint the outside of my home. For the body, I am seeking a warm color in the yellow, beige and cream group. I may have found a good one with BM Concord Ivory, which on the areas of the house that I have sampled it, looks correct to me. My problem is imagining the whole house painted in that color.... would it be too bold? Is it too gold? Has anyone here used Concord Ivory on their exterior? Does anyone know of a warm yellow/beige color that does not overwhelm on a large house? For trim, I seek a warm, complementary ivory color and for the shutters I fell in love with BM blue dusk, which I would describe as a mid-tone blue/gray. I usually am the one that my friends come to for color help, its funny when its your own decision, its much harder... Thanks in advance!...See MoreOpinions on new house exterior please!
Comments (28)I didn't read all the responses - but, I have/had the same problem w/my windows and doors. The builder showed me houses that he built w/the larger trim and said it was standard - I didn't need it added to the specs. Yet, when the windows/siding went in I have this little skinny trim - that too me looks unfinished/cheap. I could add shutters but that would not solve the problem w/the side of the house windows unless I put shutters on them too, which too me would be too much bric-brack. I think if you get wider trim work it will look very nice - but, you will have some size issues. It won't look right where you have th stone (yep, I have the stone issue too - but, luckily the stone guy self trimmed those couple windows. Then your upper windows you can't have the larger trim creep into your upper section of trim either. Why not just try it on your lower windows and see if that makes enough difference to make you happy. I too relied on my builder for his expersise - LOL I have learn't never to do that again....See MoreSeeking opinions on which color to paint home exterior
Comments (2)I think the colors you have look a little too taupe, and the other one looks too rosy/lavender/gray. It's just a little blah looking. may I offer a few other color combos? I like the idea of a darker fascia (I know this is brick), but look at the gray/taupe tone paired w/the darker fascia color (right against the roof) The underside would be painted in the white or lighter tone For example, Stone lion-stucco, Divine white trim and underside, Iron Ore (Or Urbane Bronze) for the fascia. (and if you can do the window trim w/it I'd do the darker there too) see the color combo on this tudor? Garage door. do a darker shade than the stucco, get some carriage hardware for the door, and new exterior lights. The white ones you have just don't work That plaque on the side of the house w/the light, can that be removed? for around the garage door, Either of these lights would look better. get them in dark brass or ORB or even a copper another example a few colors. I know this is more modern, but just look at the way the colors were used. Ditto here. Some other color combos. door looks great w/a little hardware. it's cheap. Amazon has them...See Morechispa
