You can never have too big of a coffee table. :) Mine is about your size and it's really come in handy. Especially when there is other seating around the table.

Can you take a side view of the table? From what I see it looks to be perfectly fine!

I would get an area rug in darker tones so that the table looks anchored, I think that would please you and make it more cohesive. It's a lovely room and coffee table.

I agree about an area rug, it was the first thing I thought of. Also the table seems too tall, not too wide. I'd suggest sawing a couple inches off the legs, but in the case of this table it would be ruined. I think it would look nice centered in front of the fireplace and scootch the sofa and chair in a little.

Agree about the rug and centering it between the fireplace and the tv (can you slide it a little to make it opposite the fireplace?). Then straighten the sofa and chair parallel to each other on either side. I think the table will be fine and in the pics, it doesn't look too tall to me. I like one that I don't have to bend far down to in order to place a glass or something on it. Yours looks pretty perfect for that, imho.

Please consider posting more photos of the whole area of the room -- so far -- your coffee table looks just right -- in size, shape and proportion to your sofa and chair .....

Perhaps if you re-arranged the furniture and TV ..... just a thought! :)

I don't thing it looks too big either. Once you put an area rug under it will look great.

Here is a side view of the table in front of the couch. I do like the idea of an area rug. It's funny, you get such a different perspective of a room looking at it in a picture vs looking at it in real life. The lack of an area rug just pops right out. Thank you all for your advice!

I don't know what the underside looks like or how exactly the table is attached to the legs, but perhaps you could saw a few inches off the tops of the legs (down to the top of the "turned" detail") and reattach the top. That would lower the height without ruining the look of the legs. And any not-so-pretty edges leftover from cutting it would be hidden under the table and not very noticeable.

I have also had a coffee table that wound up being too tall for our space. Luckily, I had bought it from a thrift store, so I didn't have too much invested in it. Eventually we just wound up donating it again.

BTW, I love your sofa and chair. They just look so inviting.

I think your coffee table is just right....especially viewing it from by the chair. I love your room, but the basket on the fireplace hearth is puzzling me....just looks too big and wonder how your room would look without it? Maybe just the little jug there or a tall slim vase.

I just checked my 2. With both of them the top of the table is even with the sofa seat. Yours also looks to be even.

Why do you think its too tall?

There is NO WAY I would try to shorten the metal legs of a special order. Maybe I'm a coward, but that just seems like asking for trouble, LOL!

Honestly, taller coffee tables are quite prevalent. Give yourself some time to get used to the height, since it's so different than what you're used to. I think it looks very practical and I really like the styling you chose.

I have a friend who used to be an interior designer before going into real estate & she advised me once that any new piece of furniture in your house feels like an "intrusion" for a bit. I really love your room and the coffee table with your furniture & agreed immediately when I saw it that an area rug would be great.

I was actually going to ask if you had a very small coffee table or no table before, because I wondered if it was just the "differentness" that you were responding to. I think it looks totally fine.

I think your sofa and chair (is that the only seating in the room?) need to be scooted closer together and that may help the room. Currently, it doesn't look like a conversational grouping because the sofa and chair are so far from each other...unless that's an optical illusion from the angle of the photo.

I'd mix up the pillows on the sofa, too. Three matching pillows is a little...you know...ho hum. How about covering the middle pillow in a non-matching fabric?

I'd also hang something larger over the mantel. The clock seems a little lost there. Maybe a colorful piece of artwork...then add some color elsewhere in the room. Everything seems fairly monochromatic that I can see. Looks like a dark red throw on the back of the sofa -- maybe you can use a few more touches of that red in the room?

Finally, just another random thought, but it looks like the chair might need an end table?

Can you put the couch up on cinder blocks?

It looks fine to me....just right in fact. The only thing that bothers me is the angle of the sofa...it's like it's angled a little...not enough to look intentional...

It's a beautiful table and I agree that it doesn't look too tall. It's taller than some and shorter than some, but it doesn't look odd. It's so pretty, I think that's all I would notice. I'll bet with some time, you'll think it looks like it belongs there just as it is. A rug would be really nice in your room but I hope you chose something that has some contrast to the metal so you don't lose the ability to see those gorgeous legs.
