Cabinet Pic Progress and aisle width ?
Comments (3)By 'walk thru' do you mean the area behind the stools? If so, 32" seems a little narrow for someone to squeeze by if people are seated. Or would that rarely happen? I'm having similar aisle issues (I'm in the layout stage). I've read soem other threads that might help you. Be sure to note the second thread I noted within this one. There is also some good stuff here: http://www.thathomesite.com/forums/load/build/msg1217593727213.html?8. Here is a link that might be useful: thread on narrow aisles...See MoreConverting dining room to walk-in pantry & butler's pantry
Comments (50)I am just now reading all these amazing comments. We were going to sell our 5 bedroom house and build a “smaller” 2B2B barndominium, but plans changed due to my dad getting sick and not wanting us to move away from me. So we have decided to renovate what we have and incorporate the things I wanted into this house but I have no clue where to start. This house had NO storage. We have extra rooms I want to make one a butlers pantry that connects to my kitchen and the other I want to make a master closet. Any ideas would be appreciated...See MoreHow wide is the aisle in your walk-in pantry?
Comments (14)"I still need to go through everything I have and decide what exactly will go in the pantry and what will be stored in the kitchen. I need to get on that. I noticed as I was cooking this weekend that I have all of my oils, vinegars, etc in the current pantry. I also have all my baggies & wraps in the pantry. I need to make a space for all of that in the kitchen. Time to go through everything and start figuring out exactly where it should be stored!" There's an entire thread on that now (http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4840159/adjacent-pantry-what-food-do-you-keep-in-kitchen#20664933) so you can see how different people have set things up. Most commonly, it seems people keep the things they use most frequently in the kitchen, and store less commonly used things, extras of things, and small appliances in their pantry. Much like setting up which drawers or cupboards to use for your pots/pans/utensils, don't be afraid to change your mind about those things, and any decision you make now does not need to be set in stone. It took me a few weeks to set things up, and I changed things a couple of times in the next month, trying to find what felt natural and made sense to me when I worked (not what made sense on paper)....See MoreAisle width around island-keep pantry cabinets or widen aisles?
Comments (5)Ok, so I was trying to keep the whole thing open to the rest of the space (the breakfast area and living are the rest of the space going back from the kitchen, so adding a peninsula was something I was trying to avoid and get seating at the island. I think all of you basically answered my question that the clearances are not going to work and if this is the basic layout, the pantry cabinets will have to go. The 48" range has already been chucked out in favor of a cooktop, I just don't have an updated visual. That is the reason for adding double ovens somewhere. Thanks, everyone!...See Moreautumn.4
