Comments (7)Or : A couple 3 gallon buckets a gallon on muriatic acid(MA) or the low fumes version. Same price at Lowes. a 12 lb bag of baking soda. three gallons of distilled water (provides the best potential outcome) a scotchbrite or sponge with a scrubby side. a sponge Large rubber gloves. Eye wear is strongly encouraged. Instructions: Gloves and eyewear please. Pool side Bucket 1: Mix 1 gallon of distilled water, Add 1 pint of MA. This will make an 8-1 mix of acid. Later, it may be discovered this is too weak. Add additional acid until the desired results are achieved, 8 oz at a time. Scotch Brite or sponge with scrubby side. Bucket 2: Mix 2 gallons of distilled water and 1 lb of baking soda. Sponge in this bucket. Scrub 10' sections twice with MA solution and then wash it down with baking soda solution. Check the results. If the difference is less than desired, add additional acid as stated before and try it again. Sometimes, it may take as much as a 4-1 strength to get it done. Better to get there slowly and use less if possible. Once done, pour the remainder of each bucket in the pool, around the deep end mostly. Rinse the buckets, the partly opened MA bottle, sponges, and gloves in the shallow end. Remember how much acid you added to bucket 1? Add a about a pound of baking soda per 8 oz of acid. Check the pH and Alk levels in 4 hours (pump on). Scott...See MoreDo you iron your bed sheets?
Comments (68)I iron my top sheets and pillow cases. Any wrinkles in the fitted bottom sheet come out when you put it on the bed. I have tried to buy iron-free sheets but they are usually sateen sheets and even though they are 100% cotton, my husband and I don't like the feel of them. We like crisp, fairly heavy sheets and they are hard to find, especially if one's on a budget. I have one perfect set and 3 other not so perfect sets in addition to sets that have gone to Goodwill because we hated them....See MoreHow often do you change your sheets?
Comments (90)Up until recently our sheets were flown to Iceland where they were sanitized in a 170 deg. F geothermal pool, dried in glacial air, pressed with a lava mangle, then flown back to us. That got expensive three times a week. Nowadays we wash them for an hour, spin them out and dry them in a hot oven before hanging them outside between two birch trees. Occasionally we'll let them sit next to the reactor for an hour. My mom used to dry sheets (all clothes, laundry) outdoors -- even in icy, windy January. The sheets and towels would be as stiff as boards until they "dried". They would be fragrant of fresh air and saltwater cove. Sometimes they would stay overnight on the pulley line. One spring morning we awoke to the bay and cove smelling of smelts. Of course the laundry on the line was redolent of smelts as well. Sound awful, but, although I wouldn't want daily laundry smelling of them, smelts don't smell fishy at all (neither does fresh fish, btw). They actually have a very clean fragrance. Smelts were all over the nearby ledges and shore -- stranded there when the tide went out. Pogies in July? That's another matter entirely. I love the bird and dog/s in the bed....See MoreLadies coming off of HRT need your help
Comments (0)Hello everyone, I am in need of some help and suggestions for woman who have tried HRT and are coming off of it. Short background, I went through a very easy menopausal transition, yet years after the fact started having a world of problems. Many of my symptoms seemed hormone related, so I started some HRT to see if it would help. I worked with a very knowledgeable endocrinologist, but the side effects of the HRT were simply horrible. So I made the choice to come off. Now I am experiencing ridiculous symptoms. No hot flashes, but strange things like incredibly brittle hair and nails, poor sleep, odd body shape, sagging skin, creepy crawly sensations, etc. Has anyone else had this coming off HRT and how long does it take to go away? Anyones' experience is greatly appreciated....See Morewjswecampbell
