Other people's opinions: 3rd party independent observers wanted!

I generally love the 'forum' atmosphere because most often, you get objective opinions on whatever you're seeking advice on.

Now, my issue is (and I know the answer is to simply stop asking her opinion) my sister. We are NOT two peas in a pod. If she wasn't a democrat, she would certainly fit the mold of the phrase "staunch republican." By that, I mean that she is generally unwavering in her opinions, and most often the opinion is just that: her own PERSONAL opinion, and not an "objective observation." She doesn't know how to be objective.

I have shown her my artwork, and she comes back with words like "gross," and when I ask her opinion (on the orange stripe that I'm contemplating in the DS's room), she says "definitely NOT" and I can just feel the disgust coming through the email.

Do you also find it hard to get an 'objective' opinion on your decorating style instead of people's personal likes & dislikes?
