Computer programs or not ?

I am about to start scrapbooking. There will be a new first grandbaby in the family and I thought I would just jump in. I have been a lurker to scrapbooking for a long time looking thru the craft store isles and magazines. I have noticed a lot of computer programs too. So I was wondering of those of you that are into scrapbooking. What are the opinions to using a computer program. Thanks so much.

I have the Hallmark Scrapbook Studio Deluxe program and it's making me insane! I can not get the picture to go 'behind' the matting and frames in that program. They sit on top. The frames are oval, heart shaped, round etc., my pictures are rectangular. On the box, it shows the pictures appear to be behind the frames and matts, but yet it's impossible. When I push the 'move backward' or 'move behind' button, my picture disappears completely. I'm so frustrated with this program. I've learned a few new swears too.....

Hi; I agree with you Alora, the program is frustrating. I think I may just print the frames and cut the pictures to go in the frame, of course I could do that without the program and then I wouldn't drive myself crazy and waste alot of time. I have more fun dreaming up ideas and checking out this site for even better ideas. I have my work table next to my computer so I just switch between my two favorite things.

I'm currently trying out a trial of Garden Boss. It's actually $40 to purchase, which I think is a little steep, but I do like some of the features. It allows you to set your frost dates, enter data for plants you plant (or use templates provided with the program) and it spits out a calendar that tells you when to sow seed, transplant into the garden, begin harvesting and clear out the square to plant a new plant. It also has a square grid to help you plan you sfg. It does have limitations though. I'd like to be able to add to the calendar things like feed the azaleas, prune the clematis, etc., and there's no way to do that. Perhaps because those aren't sfg-related chores... and the monthly calendar is a little hard to read. You can download it free and try it for 30 days, then you have to pay... I've included a link to a download site below. I was curious about the Garden Manager program, but frankly didn't want the hassle of asking for a refund if it turned out to be not useful for me... Punch! Ultimate Deck Computer Program Problems

Howdy. I should have said the programs name is Punch! Ultimate Deck "and Landscaping". Sorry about that. All of the .phd files I located came up with the same message: "This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!" I think SketchUp is a Google program. Right? I had the Punch program a long, long time before loading SketchUp on my computer. Could the .phd file extension now only belong to Google, and that's blocking Punch files? Mikie, before originally posting I tried maybe a couple of dozen programs (using your method) to see if they could open the .phd files. Nope! I tried SketchUp, too, and got the same message. I wonder what is meant when it refers to "model"? You guys have made me think that somehow SketchUp might have become the designated default program for all .phd files. I look for more blocks to check. Since Punch won't respond maybe I'll send a note to Google's SketchUp section and see what comes from that. I appreciate everyone's help. Gene

It's me....Alora (changed my name).... But the other night, I was bored and flipping through my programs on my computer, when I opened the tutorial for the scrapbooking program I have. Apparently, you are SUPPOSED to print out the pages and glue/tape/stick whatever...the pictures to the scrapbooking pages. Duh me! LOL If all else fails, read the instructions, right? LOL I bought a pack of acid free paper, and I have my Kodak paper ready to print off pictures that I've scanned, so I guess it's about time I get to work. According to the program instructions, if the frames are rectangular or square, putting a picture in them is easy. You just layer it over. But if the frame is round/oval/heart shaped etc., you are to print out the page, cut out the frames center and put the picture behind it to 'frame' it.

I just finished making my first 3 pages!!! I'm so proud of me, they turned out so good. I used my scrapbook program, but a package of HP Bright White Inkjet paper (it's acid free) and printed off some background pages that I added a few graphics to with the grabber. Then I printed off some frames and graphics on another sheet and cut them out and glued and sticky taped together. The cutting is the toughest part, you need small sharp scissors, but the end result is terrific! I guess it would be easier to go out and buy everything (paper, frames etc...) but this program will pay for itself in the long run, and I can print off pages of graphics and cut them out while I'm watching tv. My opinion of this program (now that I've actually read the instructions....) has changed.
