Introductions

I hope we all become good friends and regular posters. In that spirit, let's introduce ourselves.

My name is Carla Travis, I live in Arkansas, and I love scrapbooking! I am 33 years old and have been scrapping since May 1998. I am married, with one 8-year-old boy. We are presently trying for another. I have taught high school English (American literature) for 12 years.

So far, I have made 8 albums, and am currently working on a tribute album for my parents. My 2000 album is underway and I think it is going to be the best family annual yet!

How about the rest of you?

Great idea.....I am Jane. I live in Tennessee. I am a nurse. I am married w/ one son 22 years old. I have been scrapbooking for about 2 years and have 6 scrapbooks in various stages of completion. (Are they ever "finished"?) I also do other hobbies such as cross stitch, beginning quilting, cooking. Glad to meet everyone here. I hope we can all help each other out w/ ideas and inspirations.

Thank you Carla for getting us a new forum dedicated to scrapbooking.
My name is Sharon but I usually go by Paperdahl. A name I picked up in the 60's when CB radios were popular. I worked for a paper company for 24 yrs and my favorite craft is papermaking.
    I just turned 50 (ouch). I have one daughter (29) and a grandaughter (8).
While I have always been a crafter I am a newbie to scraping. I started shortly before Christmas and I'm sure this will continue for the rest of my life. To me, it's sort of like writing my autobiography. I think of every page as a separate piece of art.
My husband abd I are native Las Vegans but we intend to move to Montana this year. Any other Montanans here?

New USA rose introductions for 2022

    Q

    Comments (7)
Thank you, Ben! The new introductions this time of year help ease the disappointment of our growing season ending here in the US. Soeur Emmanuelle is the only one I'm familiar with. She's already taller than the stated size on HMF, reaching 5'+ at 1 yr old from a Palatine bare root. Mine is similar to most of the photos on HMF with clusters of blooms on long stems that start off as deep red buds, open to a rich rose pink that gradually lighten to pale pink. I don't believe the fading blooms is a negative, rather a feature of the rose. The various shades are very pretty on the bush. The form on mine is definitely hybrid tea, rather than shrub, right down to the sparse foliage toward the base, but that may stand out more to me than to those who are used to hybrid teas. Scent is often hard to detect in my climate, but her's is strong and lovely. I'll try posting my pics below. I'm having computer troubles or Houzz troubles tonight.

    Twilight's rose introduction

Two other tea roses are red. I'm very in love with the larger one next to my porch steps. The new growth was flaming scarlet. It stands more upright where Peace wants to make a big wide U. The scent seems "perfect" rose to me, so damask. I can smell this rose when I open the door. Super wicked thorns. The other is in very poor condition, I got it to bloom last fall once but not yet this spring. It is very similar to this but not exactly the same. I may let it go (it has died back to the point that there is one cane a foot tall). My guess is they are Chrysler Imperial and Mr Lincoln. This is the healthy one of course.

An introduction and a few Q's about my seedlings

Hi @jstropic (10a) Thanks for responding to my post. Well, these guys have been uncovered for a while now and are not objecting to the sunlight even though they're on a south facing lanai. We’re moving into our first and second set of true leaves but they still seem leggy to me. I’ll keep an eye on the sun. I like their current location as its well away from other plants and soil so less chance of bugs and disease. We have 71 seedlings out of 74 seeds planted. I am going to have my work cut out for me!

Peter Beales attributes it to Paul, UK, bred in 1907. Probably introduced the same year in the UK since it was introduced in Australia the following year. No idea of year of introduction to the US, is that what you are hoping to confirm?

My name is Roberta, I live in Wisconsin with DH, DD#2 who is 17, one dog and two cats!! DD#1 is 23 living in San Diego and DS is 20 living in Bremerton, Washington. I have several albums going at once (don't we all!!) and a constant pile of pictures to be sorted!! My CM Consultant is the best -- I try to attend crops at her house as often as possible.

What a great idea!! I'm Tandy, 38, married to a great guy for 9 years and a stay at home mom for our 2 kids (7 year old son and 3 year old daughter). Lived in Oklahoma 37 years until hubby's job moved us to Nebraska a year ago. I've been scrapping for 4 years and presently on my 2nd 12x12 album (need to start a 3rd before they get too heavy to lift). I'm also addicted to cutting and painting decorative wood projects which I sell in craft shows and shops, so have to divide my time. I love the Crafts and Decorations forum and was excited when Spike announced he'd started this! I'm always looking for fun new layouts. I use a lot of 12x12 paper and 12" sticker borders cause they make pages look nice without spending hours. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas with all of you!!

Hi fellow Scrappers, Thanks to Carla for getting this forum going. My name is Kathy and I live in Wisconsin. (Where in Wisconsin are you from, Roberta?) Married to Jim, for 30 yrs this August. Two daughters, 28 yrs and 23 yrs. The oldest got married 2 years ago and last Fall our first Grandson was born. What fun! I have been scrapping for 2 years. First year, I bought supplies like crazy. Then figured I better get down to business and use them. I got my oldest daughter into it before her wedding and she finally completed her Wedding Album. So much more personable than a professional album. Everyone loves it. Now she is starting one for her new Son. This forum will be so much fun. Everyone has such great ideas. Happy Scrapping!

Hi there! Sorry, I didn't see this posting until after I had already posted my own message!! I guess I was just SO excited to see this forum I jumped right in and started asking questions!! :O)
Anyways, My name is Toni Hazelbaker, I am 27 years old and I live in Indiana. I have 2 children of my own (Zack - age 6) and Samantha AKA "Sami" (age 2 1/2) and also a stepson (Adam age6). I am married to a wonderful man named Rob.
I want to make scrapbook's for each of my kids. It's just getting started AND getting it all the dates in order LOL!
I have started on my first scrapbook though...It is for my husband. He races stock cars here in Indiana. We have been married for 4 years in April and this year I am going to make him a scrapbook for his racing!! Every year I cut out the articles about him from the paper and get the pictures and everything I just never seem to get them in a book! Then, I forget the dates and things like that. Heck, sometimes I get so lazy I just keep the whole paper...and then I have to go back and say "Okay...now what was it I kept this for" LOL!! He had a race on New Years and I have managed to get it in the book already. Now, if I can just stay on top of it I'll be fine!
Anyways, great to be here, great to meet all of you!
With a forum like this maybe I will be able to keep up my insperation!! LOL

Hey everyone!!! Isn't this the greatest? And to think we've got people from all around the world right here on our desktops - Australia, Canada, France and all points in the USA. Okay, okay. I'm Karen and I live in NE Mississippi (bet you'd already guessed that). I'm 46, married to John for the past almost 15 years. One daughter, 26, who is married and living in Oregon that just presented us with our first "natural" granddaughter on December 3, 1999, but also gave three more wonderful grandchilden when she got married (they're 11, 10 and 8). I've been a legal secretary for the past 16 years and was hoping to get to stay at home and work on my scrapbook and crafts when I quit my job last month, but in the past week I've had calls from two other law offices wanting me to come to work so I'm back at work. Ugh! I went to my first CM crop in January '99 and spent ... let's just say I bought a 12x12 album, stickers, die cuts and DH doesn't have a clue how much I spent. Since then I've bought tons of paper, templates, stickers, die cuts, etc., etc. But, don't yell at me, have only done one page. It's like all my other crafts (cake decorating - I have a closet full of pans, crocheting, sewing, who knows what else is in that room), I just keep buying and buying and gathering ideas and never get around to doing anything. I'm hoping ya'll will give me a gentle nudge now and then (it might take a big push and a "get off your behind") to get me going. Originally I was going to make an album with all my cake pictures, but I think I'll do a family one instead. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Hi! I'm a 42 year old mother of two -- one is in college now -- ack! Boy time flies and do I have the photos to prove it. I started scrapbooking only two years ago and enjoy it so much. I try to crop at my CM consultant's home twice a month. My goals are to keep current but also to re-do my precious children's numerous albums. Yes, this will take a lot of time but it will definitely be worth it. In looking back at my oldest's magnetic album, I was extremely saddened to see yellowing photos. Can't wait to make them right and to have them last forever so that her children can enjoy them someday! I'm looking forward to reading and sharing ideas for great pages. One of my favorite pages ideas currently is movable borders. Anyone else doing these?

Cathy, can you clue me into what "movable borders" are? I love all kinds of borders and don't want to miss out on anything! TIA!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Carrie from Tx. I am 35 and a single mom of three...ages 7,8 & 9. I have been scrapping for a couple of years now and have 4 albums going at once, one for myself and one for each of the kids. I am a acid free paper junkie!! The first thing I look at in the Sunday paper are the ads for Hobby Lobby and Michael's to see if they have their paper on sale. Yep, I'm one of those that buys boo koo's paper before I have a use for it.
I can't wait to hear about all of the idea you all have.
    Carrie
    P.S.
Cindy, I was born in Wichata Falls and still have relatives there. It isn't often I run into someone from there.

Hello, my name is Leah and I'm a scrapaholic. :o) I'm 21, in third year of university, and work part-time. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I picked up scrapping as a hobby (obsession?) back in August '99. My fiance, Cpl. Thomas Williams (USMC), had just left on his second overseas deployment and I was feeling sad. Scrapping our pictures has really helped to me keep sane during these seven months of separation! The album of us will be a surprise for him when he comes back -- which is in ELEVEN DAYS from today! I'm looking forward to some day doing a wedding album, baby album(s?), a travel album, a new home album...

Hi! I'm the daughter of the woman (Tammy) who LOVES her family! :) I've been married for a year and a half, to my wonderful husband Levi. And we have a baby boy, Pierce who is six months old. He's such a doll! I started my book after Christmas (99) it was going to just be a baby book, but no longer. Now it's a baby/family/friends/wedding.......
And after seeing Leah's 4"-6" book I started one last night. And have done 11 pages! I'm hooked!

Hi everyone. I'm Kellie from Sydney, Australia. I am so glad to have found you all. As yet I haven't started an album. I was given a few things for Christmas and can't wait to get started. I have a beautiful baby boy, 9 months old, and his daddy and I are taking mountains of photos. LOL.

I just know that once I start I will be hooked, I love paper and creating wonderful memories.

Hi. I'm Connie from Northwest Washington state. I am so pleased to have found this group. I have been scrapbooking for 3 years now, and am on my third album, plus I have started albums for my 3 daughters and 2 sons. I also have been doing rubber stamping for about 10 years, so when I discovered scrapbooking, I already had a lot of supplies, which is great because I have now retired and have moved close to some of my kids, and we have our own scrapbook work parties. Many thanks to those who started this group. Connie L

    Hello!!

My name is Heidi and I live in Central PA. I am 31 and I am married with two boys ages 6 and 10.

I made my first scrapbook page in May of 1997. We don't have many supplies here, in fact, a scrapbook store just opened this past Fall near me and I have been in 7th Heaven. I used to have to buy from mail order or internet sources.

I plan my photos around my scrapbooks and will scrapbook everything. My family thinks I am nuts, but once they see that I am preserving memories they will appreciate what I do.

It's nice to read about the rest of you. What a great forum.

Hi everyone! I'm Linda, 48 years old & live in Owen Sound, Ontario. I've been married for 28 years to the same guy, we have 2 sons (25 and 23) and 2 dogs (12 & 7). We live in a beautiful area of the province, where there's so much to do if you are an outdoor enthusiast. The only real outdoor activity that I love is camping. I've been watching the scrapbooking posts for many months now & thinking "what a wonderful project to do". I have probably 15 photo albums as well as about 75 assorted packages of photos that haven't been put anywhere but in a big box. My DH doesn't like to photograph people, just scenery, so I'm not in a big panic to go through all those pics of trees and water...lol. After Christmas, I went out & bought some supplies (stickers, paper, cut-out patterns, markers, etc) but I haven't been able to make a good start yet. But I will someday when I've been inspired enough by you folks. Although I haven't done much crafting in the past few years, my other interests include: knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, plastic canvas. Congrats on getting this forum up & running. See you all later.

Hi everyone. I was so excited to see the forum yesterday I jumped right in without introducing myself. I'm Hilary, 38 and living in Tampa, Florida. I've been married 11 years and have 3 boys (9, 6 and 4). I've been scrapbooking for 3-4 years and have probably 6 albums in progress with ideas for 4 more. I do mine chronologically on 12x12 paper in 3 ring binder albums so I try to stay current while jumping all over in the past years. I LOVE scrapbooking - the hardest thing is finding the time and space. Thanks for this forum!

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I am from Ohio. My twin sister bought me some scrapbook supplies when my daughter Alyssa (Lys) was born 2 1/2 years ago. We never really knew how to get started so we had a Creative Memories class at my house last spring. That really helped or rather will really help us when we actually get the time to start scrapping. So far we have a HUGE collection of supplies but only two pages completed for our scrapbooks. These were the pages we did in our class. We are trying to get a family cookbook completed before we start working on the scrapbooks. Unfortunately, we haven't done any work on the cookbook for about a year.

Besides scrapping, I like to do other crafts. I am currently working on some cross stitch projects. Anyone else interested in cross stitch and would like to make new friends, let me know and I will link you to a great cross stitch BB.

Hi everyone! I'm Sherry from Pennsylvania. I am 40 yrs. old. I'm married and have 3 children, A daughter 17 yrs old & 2 sons ages 6 & 12. I love to take pictures, especially of my family, I have a camera with me always! I made a scrapbook for my grandmother from before she was born. She loved it, but has since passed away. What history is in that book! I am now TRYING to get a couple more scrapbooks made up for each of my kids. I love hearing the wonderful ideas you all have! I am so glad to have this forum to turn to! Sherry :)

I'm from Arkansas too, and I teach high school English--in fact, my room is next door to Carla's(the gal who started this little enterprise!) She's the one who introduced me to scrapbooking. Like a lot of you, I've bought lots of stuff, but haven't done a lot with it yet! My first attempt was an album after my trip to London last spring. It's pretty primitive, but at least I know those priceless pictures are safe.

I have two children, 22 and 23. Someday I plan to tackle the tons of pictures of them and make a book for each. However, at the rate I'm going, I guess I'll have to take it all to the "home" with me and finish there.

Presently I'm working on a Year 2000 book. Even if nothing monumental happens in our family this year, I'll have the scrapbook to prove it. I started it with pictures from the New Year's Eve party at our country club, and I plan to move month by month through the year. Since we have no grandchildren, the pages are already liberally sprinkled with pictures of Bailey, my grandpuppy.

I look forward to learning much from you veterans!

Hi Everyone! I've enjoyed reading everyone's stories and varying levels of expertise. Wishing I was a veteran, :) but that will come! I'm 36, married to an Air Force guy, and we're both from the land of Rainbows... Hawaii! Presently we're in Oklahoma and have souvenir babies of 3 boys and 1 little girl from our travels :)

Cheryl/Ladybug, I am Exactly where you are in this scrapbooking craft! I've really only finished 3 great pages, and Somehow got it in my brain to do a family recipe/scrapbook! This year is for my hubby's side (better cooks and more efficient folks :) and next year it will be for my side of the family. Ideally, I'd like at Least a page for everyone, and so will be mailing out 8 1/2"x11" cardstock for them to use for their pages, their names already in a font cut out of a banner template, and a mini fill-in the form bio. I'm Really not sure how to get this thing printed, or how expensive it will be! Maybe Kinkos? I'm getting a scanner *knock on wood* and hope that will help this (slightly overwhelming) cause.
If you or anyone can think of any pointers for me, I will surely appreciate it. I think I'm biting off more than I can chew!

Hi! My name is Patti and I live in NH as a stay at home mom to my daughter Kae. I've been married for 5 years to my husband who is also my best friend (wow - that's corny *grin*). I posted quite a few replies today so I figured I should introduce myself. :)

I started scrapbooking in june of 99 and just put my 40th page in my 1st Creative Memories album (and since that's the recommended max, I guess that means I've finished my first album!!). It's of my daughters' first 18 months of life. She's 2 now so I feel like this is a huge accomplishment.

I stumbled across this forum about 5 days ago and have been catching up on reading. I love finding scrapbooking web pages so I can get ideas. I have about 30 of them bookmarked right now. :) See - I'm addicted.

I started my own Geocities website of scrapbooking tips. It's not much yet, but it's something. I don't own a scanner so there are no layout photos, but I figured that there are SO many pages like that, mine can wait a little while. I'm focusing on the tips part now. I'll add the link below.

I hope to be a regular here!! i've gotten a lot of information from all of you already!

Hi, my name is Penny and I am from TN. (What part of TN Jane?) I got into scrapbook making in April, after the death of my 20 year old son Adam, was killed while on his way home from college, by a 53 year old woman on drugs, who ran a stop sign. It made me realize how priceless his photos were. I only have one other child a 23 daughter, Sequita. (Indian name, as my grandfather was full blooded Cherokee) My daughter works for Blue Cross, and 4 months after my son's death, her husband died from an illness, and 3 months after that my father. 1999 has be a bad year for us and I pray the coming year will be better. I have been divorced for 8 years and have lived with my present boyfriend for the last 6. (I just can't make myself do the marriage thing again.) I work on a printing press, where we make boxes like pudding, oatmeal, etc.. I love scrapbooking and have tons of supplies and one whole room devoted to it, and so far have only done 1/2 of a book. LOL I have never been to a crop or a show, since I cannot find anyone in my area who has even heard of scrapbook making, and we only have one TINY store in the area, and it has not had much luck. My son raced BMX bikes and I would love to hear from someone who has some great ideas for these photos, since I have tons of them and don't want them to all look the same. I would also like to know of any bike related paper, die cuts or stickers available. Love to hear from any of you. Penny

Hi. I also have a problem- I am a scrapaholic! I started about a year ago and now I am a CM Consulatant. I do it primarily to get the discount and ideas. I still crop at my upline's house monthly. So far I have done a Military book for my husband who was in the Navy (reserves now) 2 family albums, a wedding album, a birthday book, a ABC storybook, and a christmas book. I love this stuff! I am curious about stamping and sticker/punch art. I love new ideas and have started reading all the books out there. I hope to meet others and learn more here, while my 2 year continues to love his albums and my husband is finally impressed with my "Hobby"

Hi everyone! I guess I'm a little slow - I didn't see this post until today! Thanks to Carla for getting this started. I live in central PA also, and from the sounds of things, not too far from Heidi. I am married with 2 boys, am a nurse and live on a farm. I have just been scrapbooking for a year now and even my boys are getting in to it! Nice to meet you all!

Hi- I've also been posting without introducing myself--how rude! Anyhow, my name is Kerri and I'm from Washington state. I'm 32, married for 6 years and have a beautiful DD who is 14 months old. I used to be an English teacher, but am now a stay at home mom. I started scrapping when my daughter was 6 months old and am currently working on her album. I do most of my scrapping at CM parties or classes held at scrapbook stores in my area. I find that I am much more productive in that environment than at home with DD running around and demanding things in her adorable little way. Welcome everyone!

Hi, I'm Becky a new scrapper from central PA. I am enjoying my scrapbook project very much. I only wish I would have been better at taking photos when my daughter was younger.

Hi! So glad to see this forum started.

I am 36 years old, married, and live in Virginia and have only been scrapbooking for about 8 months or so. I have 2 children, a girl 13 and a boy 8. I am a bit overwhelmed when it comes to sorting out pictures because there are sooo many. I decided to start my daughter's album first and get some of those pictures out of the way. Then I will work on my son's.

One of my friends has become excited about scrapbooking so we got together last Sunday and had a great time cropping and designing pages.

I am enjoying reading about all of your ideas. Not sure if I have anything useful to contribute, but want to join the group!

Hi everyone! I also just discovered this forum. I spend most of my time over at gardenweb.com which is related to this site--Spike manages both! Happened to just notice the scrapping in the "newbie" list.

My name is Becky and I'm from Avon, CT, a suburb of Hartford and I have been very lucky to be a stay-at-home Mom for my two sons--now 21 and 18!! I'm very involved in school projects and committees in town and at our church. So far I have 2 albums in progress. I was told to do current photos first, so I did a lot of our 1999 events. Then I stated on a heritage album which I'm almost done with.

Looking forward to this forum as much as my gardening ones and I hope to learn some good tricks and hints as well as connections to other web sites.

Hi everyone, glad to meet all of you. I too just found this forum, Im usually on the gardening forum but I have been busy scrapbooking for the past month! Glad I stopped in! My name is Pam and I live in the Chicago area with my husband Glenn and dog Snickers our only Daughter is away at College. Glenn and I are both retired but still work a couple day a week as consultants. I started scrapbooking about a month ago and have become totally addicted ......worse than my gardening addiction!!!! And that's bad! But I love it, hubby asks if I'm going to take my scrapin stuff out in the yard during the summer to work on both hobbies...I laugh and say... maybe :o). But I can't believe how much money I have spent on supplies etc. But I will definately use everything I have. I started with my Daughters baby pictures and am working my way up thru the years. Some of the picture are pretty bad (due to my photo taking skills at that time) but I have gotten better over the years. My main objective is to get to the heritage photos but that will be awhile. Well happy scrappin to all of you, hope to visit again soon otherwise I'll be scrappin away!!!

Hi! I'm Becky T. from Ontario, Oregon. :) Looks like we've got quite a few Beckys here! I just found out about this forum through one of the newsgroups...and since I'm always looking for other scrapbookers I decided to come in and check it out! WOW!

I've been scrapping for probably 10 years or more. I'm currently working on 2 tribute albums and a family album. I'm a married mother of 3. I homeschool my children (ages 8, 7 tomorrow, and 4).

I look forward to getting to know you all and being a part of this forum!

Hi Everyone! This forum is so great! I am Kiley and have been collecting photos for about 30 years, so you KNOW what is waiting for me. Several years ago a study club I belong to had a scrapbooking consultant do a program for us! My ONE page was the hit of the evening; however, it took the birth of our first grandchild (he is now 14 mos.) to really get going. I am determined to "keep up" with his book! This forum is going to be my motivation/inspiration to go back through ALL those pictures of our children, pulling the special ones, and doing scrapbooks for each child, trips, holidays, etc. At this point I don't feel I have a lot of tips to share, but know that all of you will have lots of ideas that I'll be able to use. We've been married 33 years, 3 children, 1 grandchild, 3 dogs, 2 grand-doggies.

I'm Rita from Western PA. Just found this board today, and have to say I love it!! I am married, mom to two teens, and just started scrapping a yr. ago, and I'm definitely hooked. I'm a sahm and therefore have little $ for supplies, but I enjoy scrapping frugally. Let's me use my creativity more that way. :o) I actually first started scrapping when I was a child. My grandma scrapped. I'm sure she'd be in shock to see the new way of scrapping, and what a rage it's become.
