I love your old lamps..Do you have two of them?
If so, how about painting them with an antique bronze (spray) paint?
Also putting them up on a wood base, like in
photo (c) would kick them up a notch, both aesthetically and in height. A new shade would be nice too -- in a light tan or light bronze.
Don't mind me, I just like to re-purpose everything. :)

I don't understand why you don't just copy your inspiration room? There's no problem with the way your room is going but it isn't remotely close to the pictures you've posted and love so I'm curious.
What you have now does not have the same feel at all to what I think you want.

If you want that look, I would look for lamps that look very, very similar to what are in the pictures. It will be a start.

Is the brass lamp first shown yours? That one looks best.
Shade might be a tad oversized.

IMHO

A & B are too modern.
C is ok but takes up a lot of space on the table
D I like the best but I'm not crazy about it.

Will this be a working bedroom or a guest bedroom? Lamps that have wide bases will take up a lot of space, space someone might want for a clock, radio, book, glasses, etc.

I'd say C is the closest to the inspiration picture, especially if you can get a natural fiber or linen shade. I wouldn't worry about the curves; I think it would look fine. D would work, with a different lamp shade--drum shade in a darker color.

I agree with socks that A & B are too modern for the feel you are trying to achieve.

Wisteria has some lamps that might work, but they may be too pricey if you are doing this makeover on a budget.

I'm with socks on this. I like your current lamp the best. I just replace the shade with a drum shade in burlap if you can find one. You can always add the trim with bias tape if you can't find the right color trimmed shade.

bumblebeez, an inspiration doesn't mean the same thing as "copy". Just think of a characture drawing of someone you know. It doesn't really look *exactly* like them, but you know who it's meant to be.

I really like the one from PB best it ties in the wood from your night stand. The only thing is it might be a little large, it's hard to tell from pic.

I understand caricatures perfectly justgabeme, but I don't think she is headed in even the right direction, if she does indeed want the same feel as the inspiration room.
Truly, I'm trying to help her achieve that room, if that's what she wants.

Perhaps if you read the comments by artlover near the end of an earlier post that she wrote on this bedroom, you will understand where she is coming from. Check the link below.

Artlover, I like the 4th because of its height. I didn't check prices on any of them, so don't know where it falls in the mix. Note the height of the lamps in the two bedroom sin the cottage, as they relate to the height of the bed. If you like to read in bed, I think a taller lamp will help you with that. If you do choose to keep your current ones, I agree that a nice wooden base will help them, as they are a tad short compared to your bed height.

I don't think a rectangular shade would block any more light than a round one.

I like to re-purpose, like joann, but I like to check eBay and CL for vintage lamps when I need one. It's very seldom that I buy a new lamp, or two that match, but that's just me. I love this one, but there is only one -

I'm all about repurposing, too, but I only have one of those brass lamps, and I really want a ceramic one.

I know I can't make my room look just like the inspiration room, but I can come pretty close to matching the bedding. I think it will look a lot different when I get the pillows made, bedskirt on the bed,WT changed, and accessories added. I've purchased bamboo roman shades and plan to make ivory burlap drapery panels.

I just got home from a looong day of running errands. When I read posts mid-day I was at the carwash. LOL They paged me to let me know my car was done, but, geez, I was in the middle of a post! Anyway, I took so long that they drove my car off to the back lot, and I had to walk back there to get it. Some people are so impatient!

Joann - I'm glad you like my new tables. They aren't exactly what I would have chosen if budget were no object, but at least they are open and won't look so heavy by the bed. I'm a little concerned about water and scuff damage to what must be a thin finish on such inexpensive tables. I am toying with the idea of putting slate tiles on top. What do you think?

Camlan and My3dogs - I love those lamps but they would break the bank. LOL. One thing that puzzles me though, M3D, since I'm trying to go for a cottage look, isn't marble a bit formal? I know my bedroom doesn't look cottage but I do want to push it in that direction.

Bumblebeez - I would love to hear your ideas about how I can incorporate the feel of the inspiration room. I think Justgotabeme, said it right when she said it's hard to express ideas when we are not having a normal conversation. I was embarrassed that my previous thread was brought up. I hope I didn't sound like too much of a b. I really do want to hear everyone's ideas. Maybe I just need to quit posting pictures of that inspiration room, since I don't seem to be doing a good job of explaining what I'm trying to do.

I just reread Palimpest's comments from the other thread:
"Inspiration can be an interesting thing: I have had clients show me rooms they "loved" only to determine that they disliked many things about it except one key element. And that element was so important in their visualization that they screened out everything else. So, what is it about the room that inspires you? What elements are not important? These are things to think about."

To answer those questions, what I love most about the room is the nature theme, the casual feel, and the textures. I've never wanted one of those fancy MB's with tapestrires and toiles. That's just not me. DH and I both love nature, hiking, canoeing, etc. and when we saw this cottage it became our dream for retirement. Right now I would like to capture the feel of a cabin retreat in our bedroom, although I have very little money to do this with. My total budget for the entire room is about $800. I can't change the walls, the floor, or the furniture. I kind of like the blue walls so I am tweaking the colors of the inspiration room towards blue, brown and green. I absolutely love texture and it shows up in all my artwork. I loved the way the decorator of the inspiration room contrasted smooth against rough. She says that she was inspired by nature and the textures you would find on a walk through the woods. So my dream room is a mix of textures, cottagey without being country, with a nature/bird theme. It's all in my head, but I still would like some help along the way.

And please continue to place votes for the lamps. So far C is winning. I guess I need an "E", too. E is now "None of the Above."

I don't think marble is formal at all, I see a lot of them in 'shabby chic' blogs. I think what one does with a shade makes all the difference as to which way they go.

Just - so funny that you posted those two lamps. I've been looking at them, too. I think the first one would be a great accent lamp if I had a sitting area, but I think two matching would be too much of a good thing, YKWIM? I love the second one for my situation. That is definitely a "D"

The glass one is my favorite for your bedroom too. Though I love the bird one though it's a little cutsy compared with the one in the inspiration photo. Since you won't have the birds on the bed I thought on your lamps would be a good replacement.

Here's one that's base is similar in style to the first picture. It's not ceramic, which you'd prefer, but pretty just the same, and not too far off from your price range. The shade might be great with your fabric selections, too.

mom2reese, I've painted resin before. It was little bears for our kids bathroom when they were little. I used craft paint.

Art...rather than buy new lamps you can spray paint the brass look one you have. I did that with some lamps that were my grandmothers. I hated to give them away, too many memories, but were just to much in brass. Looked nice in white. You can even get "stone" textured spray paint. Ask about it at your local hardware store on how to paint. very easy.

I folks. I haven't had a time to catch up with forum reading today. DH and I are on vacation in Charleston! What a beautiful city. I can't stay on the computer long, but I wanted to thank everyone for the great lamp suggestions.

Nanny2a - I love that lamp! That just might be a winner, although it is more than I wanted to pay. So what do you guys thing of that one? Does it have a cottagey feel? I am through trying to match the one in the inspiration picture, but do want to stay with the feel of the room.

Artlover, I'm glad you liked the alabaster lamp, I thought it was a good substitute for the style of lamp shown in your inspiration photo. I searched hard for that style in ceramic, and out of the hundreds I saw, the only one close was too pricey at $489, which is ridiculous for an economical room makeover!

Charleston used to be "home" for me, now I live down 2 hours further south down the coast, but both of my kids are still in the holy city, so I get up there all the time. It's a wonderful place to visit and there's always so much to see and do, (eat), there. I hope you have a great time while you're there and stumble across some of the great restaurants that the city offers.
