Sorting pictures

I am starting to sort my pictures. I bought boxes and was wondering what and how many catorgories do you use to sort your pictures. I was thinking maybe holidays (ie: xmas, thanksgiving etc), vacations , birthdays events (ie parties, graduations) Do you have any other catorgories? TIA

I have a couple for you, my children had TONS of cousins, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, etc.. So I made a category for each of these plus these others: Pets, school trips & photos, Friends - a category for each child, sports, house, cars, weddings, garden, work, church, and last but not least a category for: Who is this person?, I have needed this often, and have filed a picture away in it until someone can identify the person for me. I have a 'book worthy' catagory. You know pics, you want in your book but don't know where. I sort those last to make different themes from them. Then spread them throughout the book. Sort of like commercials.LOL!

Thanks for the idea Dreamweaver!! I didn't use PowerPoint, but I did "save" my word document to my iPhoto (yes - I'm a Mac user), and then I was able to upload to Photobucket. Here are the 2 pictures I worked on: Now I realize this doesn't look very pretty here. I'm sure scale is way off; neither the beadboard nor the tile are the correct color; obviously when I was playing with copying and pasting pictures I didn't do a great job of getting the tiles lined up correctly. This is just sort of a "rough draft" of what I'm envisioning behind my range. Now this one has the correct color on the tile - it's the ORB, and that's a picture of my pendant (I actually have 5 of them) in the ORB. I think what I'm trying to do is pick-up and play-up the dark brown in my floor. This picture has my definite 2 cabinet colors and my definite floor color. The granite is still being "worked on" (we looked at more this weekend.) Whatever we ultimately go with will be very, very similar to this picture. One of the issues I have with all of this is the matching of my backsplash to my granite. Because I think all granite (even the ones that I'm looking at with no real "swirls" or movement) STILL has a pattern...and that means that I have to be extremely careful with my backsplash. I just don't like the look of granite with a backsplash that has any real pattern of its own. I think the beadboard will accomplish this for me, and also give me the simple country/cottage look I'm going for. I'm hoping that adding the ORB tiles behind my range can give it a little something special without making it too busy. Make sense? Again, I'm trying to imagine what actual backsplash would like "in real life." Any thoughts? Thanks - SQ

Choosing colors for kitchen cabinets and trimwork?

No idea about counters or floors. I was thinking I would choose that last. I think I want my kitchen and foyer and dining room all the same thing. See, my whole house needs a face lift, and this is where I am overwhelmed. I posted earlier this week about this issue, of not knowing where to start when you want to gradually re-do your whole house. Where do I start? I thought the kitchen was it. But maybe not.

Blue Star Oven temp bulb mounting brackets

I have a Blue Star oven Model BSP36. When we purchased it the oven temp bulb just hung from its wire on the side of the oven near the shelf racks. It looks like there should be some sort of bracket that mounts to the sidewall to hold this probe as there is some sort of pre tapped holes in the sidewall of the oven. I called Blue Start and they sent me some clips that look like they would hold a wire, There was no way of mounting them to the wall anyway. I am hoping that someone might have some sort of picture showing how these are mounted so I can get the correct clips. Thanks

Again, lots of pinks and purples that I like, but every plant looks great. How do you like Love Song? I always like Davisson's you know, and this is different than her usual. I like the look of Geneva Firetruck, but the daylilies I have seen tend to not be very good plants from what I have heard. I love Indian Ripple, I got it once, and all but 1 fan died. When it bloomed, it was the wrong plant. Received a replacement, I got one bloom this year, then it died. Not meant for me, I guess. Great post I have enjoyed looking over this late in the season when I have almost nothing.

I go through my pictures and get out all the pictures I think I might want to use for one page and put them in an envope and label it (since I have four books going at once).....Mommy's book-Christmas 1999....Katie's book-School play 1999, etc. That way, when the mood strikes me to work on a page, I have all the pictures I want to use all together and ready. Then all I have to do is flip through my envelopes and decide which page I want to make. It may not be the most efficient way, but it works great for me.

I started sorting out my pictures so that I could make a scrapbook for each of my children ( 18 and 22) I thought it would be a nice gift for my daughter (she is graduating from Vanderbilt Univ this year)
One other catagory that I thought about is birthday cakes. I am asking myself WHY would anyone take so many pictures of cakes, and the only answer I could come up with is that I must have been proud of the only dessert I had made for the year-ha.

I have a folder that I keep any pictures of the kids that don't really "fit" anywhere else. At the end of each year, I crop all these pictures into the same shape. (Usually a diamond shape.) I don't mount them on paper, just adhere them to the page, but in a pattern...hmmmmm...wish I had a scanner to show you!! I arrange them in a flower shape, with the pointed ends of the diamond pointing in towards the centre. Then use more diamonds to fill in the spaces created on the outside...does that make sense?? LOL Try it!! It really looks wonderful!

Mar the diamond thingy sounds great. Think I'll try it. Judy I have a lot of pictures of birthday cakes. How would you journal that page. Also just starting out I don't have notes on the back of the photos. Do you guess and if that fails make somthing up? LOL All these ideas are wonderful thanks alot and keepem comming. Rosemary
