I have heard good things about Harrow Sweet but I havn't planted it because I havent been able to find out out about its chill requirements. Same story for Shenandoah, Blakes Pride, Sunrise, and Potomac. I would plant some to try them but I can never seem to get find them on an acceptable rootstock for my area. I may have to graft some myself for trial. Scott I have not heard of that Euro but I may have to try it. There is another Euro I think called Belle Angevine that I have heard is low chill and very good. I also wanted to tell you that Magness is fully compatible with Quince as far I can tell and on Quince ba-29-c it makes a perfect tree. Mine set fruit this year after only three years in the ground. To bad the hail destroyed them but there is always next year. I beleive it flowered a little last year also which I suppressed. If you have room I highly reccomend adding the Magness/quince to your orchard. Scape

I figured as much since on the day I was looking at hybridizers websites for it, HIS site was down. I tried doing a web search and had no luck for some reason, maybe cause his website wasm't coming up LOL. Oh well will go check it out now. Now even if I do like it I can't get it cause I've already gotten too much. I ordered Sacred Ibis from Lambertsons and won Blue Hippo on the LA, plus several others. The best 10 herbs for you to grow, would be the ones you use. In the past, I put in herbs that I wasn't familiar with, or didn't use much of, and ended up with lovely Botanical Garden areas, but alot of plants that I only looked at (and alot of herbs aren't so great to look at....) Now I only plant herbs that I would use, a mix of medicinal, fragrant, and culinary herbs. That way I can use them in my medicine making, pourourris, dried bouquets and pressed flowers, for cooking in meals and baking, teas, jellies and gift giving ideas. So my advice would be to get a good herb book, and figure out which ones you would actually use and see if they will grow well in your area. Check on compatibility, invasiveness, water needs, light requirements, height and widths, color of blooms, etc.; then you may have a better handle on what plants would fit into your own Top 10 list. All that said and done...MY own personal top 10 list... 1. Mints (in pots, not in the ground) 2. Echinacea 3. Lavendar 4. Patchouli 5. St. John's Wort 6. Calendula 7. Basil 8. Rosemary 9. I don't know if this qualifies, but I have found I can add those little $.10 packages of ramin to leftovers and have a great meal. I microwave water in a quart measuring cup, add the ramin and microwave for 3 minutes. It's in the 100 plus degree range here, so I'm not cooking. Just reheating.
