Duvet covers and comforter questions
Comments (27)I am from england and a duvet to me means the fluffy down filled blanket an the cover what goes over it. As other ppl have said u can get different weights of these duvets an it wouldn't matter how fluffy the duvet is as long as it's the same measurements, the cover shouldn't rip as long as it's a duvet you are putting in it. The fastenings usually go at the bottom of the bed basically for cosmetic reasons and also I have found when fastenings have been at the top I tend to somehow end up with my arms inside the cover! I also don't like feeling the fastenings when I am trying to get comfortable. Not sure if that helps but that's how we do it here....See MoreFavorite source for really nice comforters... NOT duvet covers!
Comments (19)I've had good luck with Croscill bedding. I still have a comforter/skirt/shams I bought in the early 90's. (I'm picky about bedding patterns & fabric. Love that set, won't get rid of it, but tucked it into a duvet cover in guest room for a different look. Even after laundering as much as I do it's in great shape.) Last a long time, doesn't shrink or fade (whatever I bought was machine washable, like to clean my comforters frequently and don't want a whopping annual dry cleaning bill.). I'm not into shiny fabrics, so last time I did the MBR nothing from Croscill appealed to me. Most of their stock was shiny fabrics, but that was several years back. Some sources: Penney's; Bed Bath Beyond, Tuesday Morning (surprisingly good selection but you have to keep checking their shipments), occasionally TJ Maxx or Marshalls, maybe Macy's (can't remember). In the Midwest Carson Pirie Scott Dept store carries them and they are owned by Bon-Ton, so the same stock is carried under different regional dept store names. Chains operated by Bon-Ton include Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, Parisian, and Younkers....See MoreComforter or duvet cover for this bed?
Comments (11)I agree that it looks like a duvet, but you could always use a comforter. JCPenney has nice solid colored duvets and comforters. I notice alot of comforters are reversible with a tan one side, another color on the other. Comments (12)I bought a down blanket to use in the summer inside my duvet cover, or just on its own with a top sheet. I'm not crazy about linen, but if you are, perhaps choose either it or 100% cotton, or.... I saw these recently at Garnet Hill and they are part linen and part cotton; maybe a nice cool combo... Not sure what your budget is... Swedish Farmhouse duvet cover...See MoreUser
