Oh, I remember those boxes, too!! :O) All the girls would make theirs so pretty & frilly & pink...then the boys would use black & blue & red....! LoL Oooh, and the anticipation of getting a valentine from the boy you've got a crush on!! *sigh* I never did get a valentine from the boy I wanted to. LoL Oh well, I STILL love Valentines Day!! I decorate my house with red & pink paper chains...and cut out hearts from construction paper! Make pink & red cupcakes! I go nuts, I love it!!! LoL

I didnt mind my children's school 100th day. The walked 100 steps, did 100 jumping jacks, 100 toe touches, etc... I do loathe many of the special days, my children usually opted to say they forgot. When they got to HS they loved spirit week, in which each day there is a different theme, not only in clothing but there is usually a skit, or debate, or song sort of performance competition. It is between the classes. By tradition the seniors always win, and the interest is in who will come in second place. My personal favorite is 'look like a teacher day' it has to be a teacher in the school and the contest is to see who does the best job, the costumed students and the replicated teachers all go up on the stage and the students vote for the best duo. My least favorite EVER was grandparents day in one of our schools, G 2 - 4. We have no grandparents anywhere nearby, and even though the school said , in small print, or any older special friend, when your kids have no grandparents available it is torture. I complained repeatedly for years and then just kept my kids home that day to spare the tears.

Moms in my condo complex organized a Trick or Trunk outing for the kids. Sorry I didn't take photos. We are not a big complex, 60 units in 2 buildings and we had about 10 or 15 trunks decorated and 20-30 kids if that many. One large bag of candy was all I needed. I had tons of kids books from board books to middle school level, several stuffed animals and boxes of crayons/markers. I set my SUV trunk up as a library with a small children's lamp, display of books, stuffed animals etc. I also had a very large round tub on the ground for toddlers full of books. It was a hit, every kid took a least one book and several children came back not for more candy but another book. In addition, every child got Dial-A-Teacher stickers and math and English crib sheets to help with homework . I spent a lot of time explaining to parents that DAT is free and available M-Th 4-7 for free help with homework to anyone pre-k-college. I was so happy that it was a hit. An added bonus, the stuffed animals found great homes and I got rid of lots of items from my apartment I no longer need or want. To explain why I have so many children's items, I am active in supporting several low income day care centers/Head Starts and am the receiver of tons of toys, books etc to share with the centers. Currently, the centers are either closed or not taking any donations due to Covid and I only have a small 2 bedroom apartment with little closet space. ETA-College not collage. UGH! I type too fast and my proof-reading skills leave a lot to be desired.
