Best thing you could have done is paint those cabinets white. It looks beautiful, brightens everything up - including the floors, which look much better now. I also loved that red island, sorry to see it go. The walls are great. The white door mouldings I love. ...but I'm sorry to see those two wood doors go- they were spectacular wood, to my eyes. And I guess the hutch looks lonely to me, I would have tried to keep the wainscoting natural in that room only, and it would have tied in with those two kitchen doors ;)

I'd look into an "induction" cooktop. It's safer (only the pan gets hot) and behaves much like gas- instantly gets hot, and instantly turns back down.

I'm not big on marble except for the island because it's not as tough and stains easier. Doesn't like tomato sauce, or wine spills.

Backsplash: Hard to say, but you went from all wood/dark and seem to be going all white and light. I like the aquamarine color that's there now, but would probably pick a light green to give some contrast and color without standing out from the carrara counters. It would be harder to find the right tint, versus the antique white brick which would go with any floor.

Beautiful-I would go with the green subway tiles. I can't wait to see it done! I think the island will look beautiful black -great job!

Fantastic so far. I also like your red island but suspect the black with red is working wonderfully and will work really well with your brick floor. Really looking forward to more pictures--including your backsplash possibilities? Although I love color, and love green, that may be an opportunity to continue pulling it all together. I just saw a great kitchen with green glass handles, so there're certainly other ways to bring it in.

What a beautiful large space. It is going to be such a light and happy kitchen when you are done. How wonderful that you had good cabinets and did not have to start with new ones.

Very pretty! You must be so excited! I too liked the red on the island, and you could have gotten a red AGA to match. I LOVE AGA's, so I say go with a black or red AGA to match the black/red on the island. I would keep the tile simple. Maybe a frosted white glass, with a band of black or red (small thin line of glass accent) to go with the stove/island. Very classy and very classic. Or, if you can afford it, go with the marble you are using as the backsplash. Would be very pretty! What a wonderful job you have done!

Wow -what a transformation! I love, love the idea of the brick pavers on the floor. Are you using old brick? Can you share the details of the cabinet paint color and process? What color are your walls?

For the white backsplash I like the tile on this pic. Notice the marble, its what we are getting put on. Also the cooktop in the pic looks like one of our option Kenmore Pro.

Island: (interior) Heartthrob (SW 6866)

Island: (exterior)Tricorn Black (SW 6258)

Both the hutch and the ceiling beam were stained darker.

I have so many little windows above the cabinets I was thinking of filling the space with decorative bottles filled with beans, rice, etc and decorative vegetable bottles.
