removing upper cabinets over a penninsula

Hi There,

I was hoping someone could lend me some guidence with a problem I'm having. I want to take down some upper cabinets over a penninsula to "open" it up between the kitcken and dining area. The problem is not taking down the uppers but what to do with area on the remaining uppers that they were attached to (where they formed the "L"). It's going to leave a blank area exposed that would have normaly been covered. Anyone have any cool and visually pleasing ways to take care of that???? I appreciate any help you can give.
