Okay, here's the tutorial. Its long because I am trying to be very detailed. Its not as complicated as it might look. I'm just going thru every step in detail. Tutorial: Getting a pic from your PC-Picasa desktop app to Picasaweb to GW. Emphasis on Picasaweb-to-GW Upload from Picasa3 Desktop to Picasaweb Step 1. browse in your library to desired picture(s). You can do this on the page with all pics in your library. Just select the pic(s) you want. Or it can be after you have double-clicked to view a particular picture. Select the pic and "hold" it in your tray. (green icon). Press the UPLOAD button. You will get an Upload dialog box something like this: Step 2. Choose upload options (a) by default the target (web) album title will be named the same as the folder of the picasa3 library. In above example, it was "clematis" because that is where the picture came from on my PC. However, on picasaweb, I keep a folder just for pics that I post on GW, called SHOWGW. That way I don't have to think about deleting or moving anything and messing up the GW thread with a red-x. So in above screenshot, at the top where it says "upload to this album", I have already used the pulldown to pick the existing ShowGW album to use. This dialog box can also be used to create a new album called "ShowGW" or whatever you want. It looks a little different than above. The default access is private or unlisted. Make sure you select Public (b) select the size you want. I am showing you the 4 size choices they provide. 1024 pixels is the default and that is fine. I used 1600 in this case. When they say "original size (slowest)", that's assuming the original size is larger than 1600 or you are on dial-up. Step 3. Press the upload button. You will get a progress bar dialog and pic(s) are copied to picasaweb. Linking from Picasaweb to GW Step 4. Go to your picasaweb space and access the picture you want to embed in a GW conversation. Picasa3(and older) offer a quick link. On the upper right corner of Picasa3 there is a link "Web Albums" that will get you to your web albums. If you go "back" to your Picasa3 library, that folder will have a more direct link to go directly to the web target folder that you just uploaded to. In my case I got a link to "View 'ShowGW'" Step 5. Double-click on the picture from the album page to generate a picture page like so: Step 6. Click on the "Link to this photo" link to expose the choices on how to link. Step 7. For this exercise, you want EMBED IMAGE. Not link. (a) First Check the Hide Album box - unless you want viewers to see an extra link to your entire album. I generally do not want that so I check HIDE ALBUM. (b) then select the size of the picture you want to show. It is always a clickable thumbnail-type picture as I am doing in this thread. I have used 400px in this thread. You can try other sizes too. I like to use a size big enough that can be viewed without the viewer having to click (but they can if they want to see it larger). (c) then -- and this must be LAST -- select the entire line in the box that starts "a href". Right click on it and select COPY (or do CTRL-C keyboard shortcut if you're into that) Step 8. Now you have the all important html code in your windows clipboard buffer. Go to the Gardenweb page where you are posting and in the message window, right-click PASTE (or CTRL-V). Might look something like this: And you're done! Preview your message and you should see your embedded image. Like this: By the way, that picture I uploaded to picasaweb as original size (3MB). I am confused, however, because I showed uploading it as 1600KB. Lets ignore that for the moment. If you click on the picture, you are viewing it in my picasaweb showGW album. Then you can click on the zoom button and get some closeup precision. I don't usually upload so large, but I was curious and wanted to see. Hope this helps and I didn't overwhelm anyone. I have never used AOL so not sure how it works but firefox will ask during install if you want to import your favorite sites to firefox, I know it will import them from IE, you would have to ask someone who has AOL experience. I found these directions, not sure which version you have or if this will work for you, but worth a try. "Click on "Favorites". Go down and click on "More Favorites". On the bottom right hand corner, click on "Save/Replace". On the next screen click "OK". On the next screen go to the black arrow at the top to do with "Save In" and click on it. It will bring down a menu from which you can choose "Removable Disk". Before you choose "Removable Disk" have your cd, floppy or Zip in the slot. Click "Save" and you are on your way. After you sign off, if you want, you can stick it back in and verify that indeed the favorites are on there." I also found this info: "How to transfer your Address Book from AOL to a new email client (eg, Thunderbird). Here's the drill: - In AOL's address book, click on one address then "Select ALL" (eg, Cntl-A), then "Copy" (eg, Cntl-C). - Open Excel or another spreadsheet; paste into a worksheet (eg, Cntl-V); you'll see your correspondent (LN, FN) and email address, separated by a Tab. Widen the first column, if necessary. - Do any editing, deleting. - Do a "Save As..." and for file type, select "TAB-DELIMITED CSV" or just "CSV (Windows)" and save it to a familiar place (I give it the name "AddrBookFeb06.csv"). - In your email client (eg, Thunderbird -- should be similar on others), Select "Tools/Import..." or similar, select the "CSV/TEXT/ETC" option, and browse to the CSV file's location. - Complete the Import, and you'll find all our AOL addresses in your new program. Not quite the way you'd like them (it won't import phone numbers, etc, and the LN,FN are all in one field), but this new Address Book is now available. - You can use them this way: select the new Book (give it a name - "Addresses from AOL"). Thunderbird will find them by alias, FN, LN, start of email, etc. - I'd copy (Cntl-A, then drag) these into the Personal Address Book, then edit them when you have time, to change them to true FN and LN fields. I like to have mine sort this way "LastName, FirstName". See if this general technique works for you -- perhaps a similar method would work for AOL's "Favorites". this service is free if you happen to be going to one of their isp partners. http://www.trueswitch.com/ directions more instructions here this is a program that will supposedly do all the moving for you of all your AOL stuff, I know nothing about it just saw it mentioned in forum. I will link it at the bottom in the helpful link area. OH !!! wait wait wait I just found the instructions on the mozilla forum on how to move them from AOL to firefox!! Save your AOL favorites. In your AOL interface, go to Favorites > Favorite Places > Save/Replace. This will save your AOL favorites to a .pfc file. Remember where you saved this. Go to LinkaGoGo. Make sure that the input is AOL PFC and the output is Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox. Click the "Browse" button and find the .pfc file you saved earlier. Click on the "Convert" button. You should be prompted to save the bookmarks.html file. Remember where you saved this, as well. Open Firefox's Bookmark Manager (Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks) From the File menu, choose Import. Then find the bookmarks file you just saved. And her is a link with directions on how to move all your AOL mail that you have saved over to Thunderbird mail. mail convert Hope some of that helps you out. I personally use imageshack have used it for years, love that there are firefox add ons for it that make it so easy use and upload to. I do have a photobucket account but do not use it near as much. I definitely store my data in more than one location and media you never know when one of these freebie sites might just close down and be gone, I have had that happen too. If you want to do private albums I like winkflash.com. Always read the fine print, many say they can delete your photos if there is not a certain amount of us and some you have to purchase something from them once a year. As just a storage locker online I use Adrive they give you a lot of free space.
