Did you know new cars lose 20 percent of their value in depreciation in the first year or two, and at a much slower rate after that?
I wonder how much it depreciates after you drive it off the lot, or put 500-1000 miles on it.

I'm in the market for a good used car, but it'll have to be a lot more depreciated than 20% for me to consider it.

did you know if you buy a classic car before it becomes a classic you can easily sell it for more than you paid for it initially. Worth even more with low milage.

So buy a new used depreciated car and dont drive it.

The worst part of ignorance is not what we don't know, it's that what we think we know is simply wrong. These boards are a source of a lot of misinformation, and I would be very careful about dismissing the idea that food grown in the ground is no more nutritious than container grown food. And I think that most thoughtful food scientists will not dismiss the concept that plant exposure to microbes makes healthier food. In fact, I would tend to think that traditional, non-hybrid seeds, planted in a virgin soil environment, would have better qualities than hybrid plants grown in plowed fields. And that would make me think that plants grown with organic techniques, in the ground, are better than containerized plants. There is chemistry, and there is organic chemistry, and there is much we do not know. The role of fulvic and humic acids, fungi in the environment, an active biological soil environment, new research is being done, new books are coming out.

Now that I have learned to grow citrus with no problems I have 3 Poncirus trifoliata of grafting size and 4 sweetlee tangerine trees of vigor that will be graft-able next spring. That's 7 root-stocks that I can graft my twigs from the grafted tree I can purchase. My purchased tree will grow faster by waiting a year and will out grow anything I bought a year earlier. My decision is to not buy a grafted tree and to grow what I have. If it fruits, great If they don't. Well we'll see My from seed Nagami kumquat for grafting to poncirus trifoliata Seed grown Meiwa kumquat tree. The tree fruit I am interested in. To be grafted on to the poncirus trifoliata moots through the Nagami inter-stock. May also go directly to my sweetlee tangerine tree root-stock, Seed grown sweetlee tangerine tree for root-stock #1 Seed grown sweetlee tangerine tree for root-stock #2 Seed grown sweetlee tangerine tree for root-stock #3 Seed grown sweetlee tangerine tree for root-stock #4 Seed grown poncirus trifoliata to be grafted on Is posted above . Its in a blue 55 gallon half drum. This completes what I have done and what I have. Can you recommend good orchid books for beginners?

This question comes up a lot! The two most commonly suggested books are Ortho's All about Orchids and the Sunset publisher's book on Orchids. Several forum members, including me, are also quite fond of Orchids Simplified by Henry Jaworski. FLAME 747 suggested "An Introduction to Orchids" published by the South Florida Orchid Society. Other excellent sources include: Taylor's "All About Orchids" (great pictures); Rebecca Northen's "Home Orchid Growing" Orchid Growing Basics (Schoser) Gardener's Guide to Growing Orchids (Ritterhausen) Orchid Growing for Wimps (Zachos) Jack Kramer's "Orchid Growing Indoors" In addition, Mary Noble has several good books for beginners: You can Grow Orchids, You Can Grow Cattleya Orchids, and You Can Grow Phalaenopsis Orchids." All are excellent for the beginner. If you want to know more about species, then The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Orchids, edited by Alec Pridgeon is also a good source. For a more detailed listing, and a suggested reading list for more experienced growers (intermediate level and advanced), check out Linda's Orchid Page at She has many good suggestions.

At what point does a car change from being an old junker to being a "classic"? My daughter drives our old Mercury Sable,it's a 1992 model with 160,000 miles on it.

Where I live you can even save money on licensing with an old car. You can get collector plates instead of regular plates. They don't come out to check to see if it is an old junker or a gem, they just go by the year of the car. It has to be over twenty years old. I told my retired parents that their car will acieve "collector status" in two years (LOL) and they can save money on their plates.

Yes, but in order to be able to use the antique plates, you are supposed to not use it for everyday driving. You can drive it to and from shows and cruise nights. And to and from maintaining it obviously, like gas stations and car washes. But you will get ticketed if they catch you driving it around like everyday transportation.

It is like this in IL if you have antique plates. My neighbor got a ticket because he tried to cheap out and get the antique plates. He drives his old car daily and got busted.

We have gotten a good deal on carmax car, you can even shop online cars from other locations and if you see one you like you can have it shipped up from wherever (ours was in TX) so you get an even larger selection over what is just at your local carmax.
