I don't know if this fits what you're hoping for, but my favorite thing to make for older baby and toddler boys is a fleece hooded sweatshirt. No fitting, no buttons, and very cute, cuddly, and useful. They go together quickly. I think my favorite pattern is a Butterick. For 'extra cuteness' choose a fun print or make different sections different colors. Pants to match are pretty easy, too. The other item cute for boys are hats...stocking or baseball caps. The baseball caps take a bit more skill, but the stocking caps take very little: 1)Cut 2 elongated ovals of polar fleece. * 2)Sew them together around the edges--right sides together, leaving an opening to turn it right side out. 3)Turn it right side out, tuck one end of the oval up into the other end, so that it forms the cap. It can be helpful to tack the 2 layers together at the top, so it doesn't need refolding each time. 4)Turn up a cuff, and you're finished. --Make sure the opening you used for turning is on the inside of the cap. You can slip stitch it closed or leave it, as is. *I'm just guessing, but I'd think the original oval should be about 16" long (finished hat height + cuff times 2) and about 8-10" wide (about 1/2 the baby's head circumference). It might take making a practice one to get the size just right.
