Quick, I Need Your Help with My Dining Room Table Options
Comments (44)You're definitely right. I've already decided that the mirror has to go. It's 8 years old. I spent most of the afternoon trying to find a new one. No success. I could repaint the frame (wouldn't deal with the style of it, however), or just put it in another room. I need something with a simpler frame in either gold or wood tone. If the mirrors at Stenella weren't so outrageously expensive, I would've bought one there. They had a couple at Homegoods that were fake bamboo, but they were too small or too over the top. I like the height of the existing mirror for reflecting light and breaking up some of the dark blue walls....See MoreProtecting the carpet under dining table
Comments (5)Area rug on wall to wall carpet is acceptable. The Ikea option is great. Just make sure it is big enough for your table/chairs. To determine the right size, you will need to measure the amount of space the table + chairs take up. To do this properly, you will place the table and the chairs. Then you will pull out ALL THE CHAIRS as if people where about to sit down. The amount of space you NEED to pull out the chairs and then sit down is part of the equation. Once you have pulled out all the chairs, you will measure the length and the width of your set up. You will then add 3" - 6" to the length and the width...this is so it looks 'right' if the chairs are pulled out. Good. Now that you have done your homework, you will go out and find an area rug with those measurements (or something as close as possible...bigger is better than smaller)....See MoreNeed help with dining room table options.
Comments (0)We move this weekend and I am totally overthinking my options for a new dining room table. The house is mid-century but with a modern farmhouse aesthetic. So I’m leaning towards transitional blend of things. The dining room and living room are open. The LR will have a mix of a soft white sofa with some more modern(ish) black chairs, natural wood accents, with a little grey and pops of royal blue/teal. What to do for a dining table though? Original wood floors are oak, barn doors are darker. The big window is curved and will have chairs but waiting to buy until I have dining table. Do I go with another shade of wood stain (farm table), or black, white, grey? Long rectangular, big round? Would love advice!...See MoreDining table protection?
Comments (4)Won’t the pad cover the table top? I got. Lucite clear placemats from Amazon. They are completely invisible so don’t detract from the table Anything hot would be placed on some form of trivet - there are all styles ranging from utilitarian to very decorative. Unless you are placing a pots or other cookware directly on the table (e.g. very hot) any normal surface is fine - a nice padded placemat will do. Typically I would put all serving stuff on mats even if not hot. I also have place mats stored by the table which are used for *intensive* meals but for ordinary type of eating, the lucite placemats are completely sufficient. I don't understand how a vinyl tablecloth could be more attractive than other types of protective coverings - nice placemats which complement the decor of your home would be better. What kind of usage will you have? Adults? Small children?...See Moremarcolo
