new pixel doll

I know I really need to start posting tags and siggies again, but I've just been so wrapped up in my pixel dolls lately. I did do a few tags from Kat Korner though....

here is a new one I made last night, for a hobby contest. It's of me as a birder (birdwatcher), complete with a field guide. :)

Now that is really an accomplishment! They seem to be so time consuming, and you do such beautiful work.

Cildhood tale: My doll Schlumpel

I was leaving this as the top, but now that people are commenting Oh Lilo! ((throw my arms around your neck with glee)) such delight to have found her again. Luck Sclumpel to have had you as her friend twice in life. I had dolls, but a baby sister and cats (my greatgrandmother made us Raggedy Ann dolls and I did play with her, but I also loved to take off her dress and put it on the cat. He didn't care) were more fun to dress up. I was more of a tomboy, riding bikes, climbing trees (and fireplaces and fences), snitching raspberries off the cane in the front yard. Or barbies. Sis and I loved barbies. Put them in our skate (did skate with them a lot though) to use as cars. I would pull them around by the string. Then, the bookcase was a highrise apartment complex. There was a bracket that stuck out a bit and I would tie a string around it, then the dolls belly and she would ride the "elevator" up to the top. Or I painted their lips with fingernail polish to look like shiny lipstick, take their heads off and put a ring over their necks to put on the "necklace" and then put the head back on. As you know, I grew up very military. was my barbie's husband. Not that sillly ol' (put some meat on yer bones boy! grow into a man, then we'll talk!). Still today, I'd rather have a beefy guy than the rather slender Ken kinda guy.

So pretty! No, these aren't Dolls of All Lands, they're Duchess Dolls and the box would have read "Dolls of All Nations". Hopefully, whoever wrote the country names on the cardboard are all correct, it looks like they are. They're in wonderful condition, but without the full box lid & bottom, the value does go down some. I just sold Gibson Girl and Cowboy in box on ebay and got $15.00 (plus shipping), but I think I just got lucky. It seems they're not as desirable these last few years. But if it were me, if you do use ebay, start around $10.00. And yes, all from the 50's. If you can, gently pull down at the back of their tops and you might be able to see their mark, I've attached a picture of that, but note, this date is a copyright date and those first ones had painted eyes, the sleepy eyed ones came out in the 50's

new dangit doll poem needed

I'm not good at poetry, but I have fun with it. I combined the old poem with some of your phases and other rhyming. Maybe some else could correct the grammar, choose more appropriate phrases, and make it flow better. Dear City Councilman, Sometimes things don't go so well, And you want to hit the wall and yell. Because you're having a field day, With all the games that people play. After all the complaints and verbal abuse, You feel your very last nerve coming loose. And that joke of a paycheck... Makes you feel like 'what the heck'. But, for your love and dedication Of dealing with the frustration Of what really goes on In dealing with arrogant spawn Here's a little dammit doll That you can't do without. Just grasp it firmly by the legs And find a place to slam it And as you whack the stuffing out Yell, "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!

I hear you. It usually comes to a matter of price for me. If they are asking a lot of money for the shrub, I wait. Most of the time, the new entries are ok though. This one does not appear to be on sale in too many mail order places so it looks like it has just started selling recently. It has not won any prizes yet so wait or get LL or VS. If it had won prizes from independent organizations, I might be tempted. This post was edited by luis_pr on Sun, Jan 18, 15 at 22:02

Thanks Judy & Carol! Yes, each doll takes at least a few hours. A lot more if you make your own body base first. That doll took me about 2-3 hours. The shading seemed to go quickly compared to my other dolls.

I made my second Arwen Evenstar doll & costume yesterday, for a contest:

That one took about 4-5 hours, even though I started with the basic dress outline I'd already made from my first Arwen doll (which was of her coronation gown). I ended up having to redraw and rework almost the whole dress due to the different design elements of it. Then I made all new hair because it was a different style than at the coronation. :)

Sorry for rambling!

Thanks Summer & Sue. Summer you make great dollz tags. That style of doll (called preps, I think) was the first style ever made, and there are so many things to choose from for those, it's really neat. People who make preps must spend entire days or weeks just making clothing LOL

That Arwen doll was challenging because the upper half of the dress & sleeves had specific patterns to them. And doing those long sleeves is never fun! LOL especially Arwen's coronation gown, because the sleeves go almost to the floor. I'm still trying to perfect those.

If anyone would like to see all my dolls I have a website devoted to dolling, it's here :) that way I won't clog up the graphics forum with too many dolls.

I think I'll browse thru Kat Korner later today and make some new sig tags! :)
