Never tired of seeing them or any other daylily flowers. In this batch Lilting Belle looks especially enticing. I still like Avis Jean and Chinese Princess. IN STYLE looks great, I could not get a decent picture of mine either yesterday or today so I am glad to see yours. And my final comment for now is that it's nice to see KING GEORGE. I don't know how commenly grown it is around the country but since its by a local Long Island hybridizer I had seen alot of it in person on the garden tours last year. It really is a big striking flower.

I was looking through some of my soup recipes this morning and found this one that uses a teaspoon of tumeric. TUNISIAN TOMATO SOUP 1 to 2 (15 oz.) cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed 1 cup uncooked lentils (any kind), rinsed and picked over 7 cups water 1 cinnamon stick 2 Tbs. olive oil 4 cups finely minced onion 2 Tbs. minced garlic 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. tumeric 1 ½ tsp. cumin seeds 1 ½ tsp. ground cumin ¼ tsp. ground coriander 2 large or 3 small bay leaves Approx. 6 cups water, chicken broth, or vegetable broth 1 20-oz. can crushed tomatoes Black pepper and cayenne to taste 3 Tbs. fresh lemon juice (or to taste) Cook the lentils with 7 cups of water or broth and the cinnamon stick until tender, about 30 minutes for gray lentils or about half that time for red lentils, which I prefer for this soup. Remove and discard the cinnamon stick; drain lentils, saving the cooking water. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a soup pot or Dutch oven. Add the onion, garlic, salt, tumeric, ground and whole cumin and coriander, and saute over medium heat for 6 to 10 minutes, or until the onions are slightly softened. Add 6 cups of water or broth (including the reserved cooking water from the lentils, if any is left) and the tomatoes, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to a simmer, partially cover, and cook for another 15 minutes of so. Fish out and discard the bay leaves. Stir in chickpeas and lentils, and cook for only about 5 minutes longer, so the legumes donÂt get mushy. Season to taste with black and cayenne pepper and lemon juice. Serve hot, topped with some yogurt and fresh chopped mint, if desired. Makes about 6 servings and freezes well in an airtight container.

Thanks Celeste. I've lost many cat companions over the years, but with Yardley I actually got angry when all this happened. Good Grief! He just turned 10. He should have had many more years with me. Your Nemo and my Yardley are good examples of why every home should have at least one good old fashioned stripey cat. Of course in my case I just take what the good Lord sends my way regardless of fur pattern (much like Kay), and He sent me Yardley when the rabbits were about to decimate my garden....Debra: You are so right about getting a good photo of the color of Coral Majority. It's hard to do. The weather was just perfect for picture taking yesterday or I wouldn't have gotten it.......Kay: The first year that Indian RIPPLE bloomed it did not have as much red as it has had subsequently. I just thought it was because it was new but maybe it's weather related? I got Acquire the Fire because of Debra's recommendation. It's wonderful.....Mantis: Yes Wizard of Oz is more bendy then I would like. Better this year then last however. After all it is a yellow (my weakness)............Julia: Orchid Gilded Ruffles is indeed short scaped. But it blooms above the foliage and as a pot plant is great for looking at it up close. It actually was a little darker then usual yesterday because of the mild weather.
