Just thought I would let you know that I won't be around for a few days. Tomorrow I am having a total knee replacement done. I hope to be home by the weekend but it will all depend on how quickly I can get moving around again.

I hope someone will keep track of any birthdays that come up. I don't think any of the "regulars" are due but we do have some newbees that pop in once in awhile. If I miss anyone I hope you have a great day.

Hold down the fort and I'll be back as soon as I can.

Thanks for passing that along to us Urlee. Judy, hope all went well with your surgery. Stick to your thearapy and you will be dancing in a month! But at least during your recovery you can PSP and get us moving here. I miss seeing you and all the others who used to add so much to this group. C'mon we need inspiration here!!!

lyfia -- Especially with higher ceilings requiring a longer run of stairs, an uninterrupted fall all the way down 9, 10, 12 feet could easily kill you. There is code on how deep each stair tread must be and the height of the risers, but I don't know that there's code on how long a run of stairs can be and be considered "safe". Maybe I'm conditioned to think about these things! In my childhood home, the stairs were in a "U" with two steps up from the foyer to a powder room level landing; ten steps up to a landing leading to a guest suite over the garage; three steps up to the 2nd floor hallway. My mother fell down the ten steps while holding me (as an infant). No broken bones, but when my two front adult teeth came through they had horizontal marks across them. This happened just before Halloween; Mom went to a party dressed as a bum with her sooo realistic black eyes. Thinking of this just now I recall that the 2nd floor hallway had only a railing w/spindles over the foyer -- a continuation of the stair banister & spindles. I remember once sleepwalking out of my BR and dreaming I was standing at a ship's rail. I don't recall ever sleepwalking before or after that, but in that morning I realized I could have pushed hard enough on that not-terribly-sturdy railing to fall into the foyer. I guess stair "landings" are called that for a reason!

kateskouros, Curious how you made out, did you order the Capital range? I am doing kitchen renovation and considering Capital 36" range. As I have just today joined this forum, have had difficulty finding reviews or opinions on range so far. My gut tells me it is a good option but would feel better if I could hear from somebody that has had experience with Precision or Performance, before I order. Will need to order range for end of September. Anybody else have opinions or advice on Capital 36" ranges?

the cashier said she wanted to remind me of their special program going on now through Sept. 29th, where for every item of clothing you bring into the store OR to Goodwill, you get a 25% off coupon! It sounds like the cashier might have been mistaken. I received something in the mail, and think it said donated items were to be brought to Elder Beerman in order to get the discount. socks, I thought I'd try the shower rods first as it was a lot cheaper than buying anything else, and luckily, they work for us. raven, I was trying to keep my post from being too long, but I actually did start out doing exactly what you described with a nice piece of fabric covering the rods. Oddly enough, with fabric over the rods, my largest dog just jumped over them, with no reluctance. But without the fabric, none of the dogs are willing to go under, through or over the bars. Maybe without the fabric covering, they think the rods are electrified? peonies, I might take down the highest rod in a few weeks and see what happens. If my cocker spaniel doesn't jump over it, I'll take away the middle rod as well. Maybe I'll be lucky like you were with the piece of board and be able to remove all of them once the dogs are conditioned not to enter that room snidely, all 3 were rescued as adult dogs and 2 would surely be diagnosed with A.D.H.D. if they were human! Those 2 do not listen to verbal commands very well, and I admit I do not have the patience it would take to train them as you suggested, which would of course be the optimal solution. jannie, unfortunately, my shower rods won't be a solution for keeping toddlers out of a room as a child would probably try to scale them and could get hurt. Luckily, my dogs seem to fear something about them and won't even try to get past them!

Way to go Judy!!....pretty soon you'll be pain free & if we had a hard time keeping up with you before surgery, we won't even be in your dust once you get mobile...ha, ha...

I had no idea you were going to go through this operation. My dh had his left knee done last August and will have the right knee done this Apr. 25th to be exact. Wishing you all the best luck in the world - do all your therapy....you'll be laughing in about 6 weeks. It's a real PIA or pain in the knee...whichever - but in 5 more weeks it'll be a bad memory.

Hope you don't have to have the other knee done! Hoping everything went ok.

Just taking a few minutes to check in. Thats about all I can sit at one time.
The surgery went really well. It was done on Tuesday and I came home Friday.
I get tired really easily but other than that I am doing very good, It amazes me how fast they get you up on your feet! But that is a good thing.
I'll be back when I can sit longer.
