I'm with Dchall. The more you wait, and stay off the lawn, the more the 'newest' smallest sprouts have a chance to pop up, w/o interference, and get their shot at developing. Which was the point of the whole reseeding thing anyway, wasn't it? And at some point, you have to give it that first mow. That doesn't amount to a 'gentlemen, start your engines' or an 'open season' on that new lawn. At that point, Stay Off It some more. Just let it sit. All the grass seed didn't start at once, there are some stragglers, who will grow if you let them get started. The matter was fairly well discussed, both the pros and cons, in a recent thread titled 'A Gentle Reminder: Stay Off The Seedbed', which can't be too far down in the list. Look up that thread, as there are a lot of good comments, even from those that disagreed with me.

For best results, you want to keep temperatures at 70-80 degrees F during the day and 55-60 degrees F at night. So the garage is way too hot for seedlings and adult plants alike. Also, did you cover your seedlings up with a dome? Seedlings don't have roots so they tend to dry out quickly. Domes keep humidity high which keeps them from drying out.

Looks like mostly 80s in the forecast for the next 10 days. Weds of next week is ALREADY predicted to be in the 90s so its going to be a warm one! I think that its well deserved after the cold spell this past week and a half. Today was very nice, sunny and temps right around 80. Its 72F right now (according to my thermometer its only 67F). Tommorrow 84F. Average high for this time of the year about 77F-80F (about 78F is considered average). Only one more full week in May and then its already June (spring went by pretty quick because now we only have about one month left before summer is offically here!). We still have to warm up a little bit more before its summer, but the humidity is really begining to get to that summer level. Im expecting all my plants including my palms to really start picking up in growth. My hibiscus (which looked like sticks in March and saw a frost in late march) now have some flower buds on it and lots of leaves. With this warm weather they should be starting to open the first batch of flowers. My coconut palm is a little more than half way finished pushing its first outdoor leaf of the year. Im hoping that it begins to get some adult leaves soon and I definitely think its time to step up the pot size (I think its in a 5 gallon pot). Good luck and enjoy some more summer heat! -Alex

Self-watering containers are always better, especially when used with a good water-wicking mix (not the Moisture Control mixes). As for watering, the key is not when or how often or any sort of schedule. Those don't work. It needs to be available when the plant needs it - that's why self-watering container works. A drip irrigation system is even better as it delivers small amounts on a regular hourly basis and can be adjusted as the weather requires. No way a person can match that type of regular delivery and moisture control. As is often discussed here, the bigger the container the better and the easier it is to stabilize the moisture levels. Yours is a small container for anything other than one of the dwarf or 'patio' type plants - you don't give the variety - so next time go bigger. Whenever I check the soil with my finger, it is moist up to the first or second knuckle. l In that case it doesn't need water nearly as often as you have been watering. Too little water is always better than too much. Stick your finger full down in the soil, better yet use a wooden dowel 8-10" deep. Dave
