Hi - here are the colorographies from thelandofcolor.com for the greys you mentioned. I wouldn’t describe either as particularly light - look at their values in comparison to ballet white and Alabaster. When you say they looked terrible, can you be more specific? Too dark? Too light? Do you find the colour too colourful? Too gray etc?

I was thinking of using Ballet White in my living room, but it ended up looking a little green. I think it's a pecularity of the lighting in that room, however, as Winds Breath also looked green. I then sampled Classic Gray which is what I am going to go with. In any case, I think Simply White would look better with Ballet White than Chantilly Lace. Simply White is warmer. Chantilly Lace is a very white white. You'll have to sample as colors look different depending on the lighting. Classic Gray doesn't look very gray in the room I'm using it in.

My home is opposite of what you are planning. Maybe it will help you by looking at the two colors next to each other in my photos. The baseboards and doors are Swiss Coffee semi gloss. The walls (and chair rail in dining room) are BM Ballet White. Walls are eggshell finish, chair rail is semi gloss. Ceiling is Swiss Coffee flat finish. Two years ago, I diy painted the interior walls in Ballet White. The doors and baseboards were already Swiss Coffee from many years prior to that. My plan was to eventually paint the doors and baseboards Ballet White, as well. However, I was way too tired after the walls were done. I think the two colors look nice together. The Swiss coffee was a paint match (I believe from Ace Hardware). The Ballet White I used was a actual Benjamin Moore paint OC-9.
