Do I need to match cabinet hardware to other bathroom fixtures?
Comments (6)Katherine, Share some pics of your existing cabs and BR finishes and your choices- we love voting! I spent months (cuz it took us over a year to do our Basement BR) picking hardware to match. I did get all shiny chrome and love how it all relates. But my existing upstairs cabinet hardware doesn't match the fixtures at all, and I never gave it a second's thought when we bought the house, and I would hazard a guess that no one has ever even noticed. Think of the cabinets as furniture- I bet you have rooms in your house where the furniture hardware does not all match!...See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums!X-Post
Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreNeed Help and Opinions for Bathroom Vanity Hardware
Comments (10)Thanks for responding! suero and sashasmommy- thought of that but it would probably be a square shaped bar and fairly long (my niece suggested I could use it for a towel bar lol) sandyponder- Love the, I think they are called edge pulls in the rejuvinate 3 of the Leslie Fine Interiors. I have included the picture. That is kind of what I was thinking of when I said I did not know what they were called! les917- It's funny that you noticed my square-rectangle theme as it was intentional. Thanks for the tip about the open end handles. I thought about using a large round mirror but my electrical had to go where it is to be centered and the round mirror would have been too big to fit in between the lights. sheesharee- I am wondering if 2 smaller ones would look okay? I would end up with 4 handles-not too dresser looking? juddgirl2- the 12" centers are gone. The longest the have are 8". The other stuff that I have is from RH Dillon Collection trainrack and tissuse paper holder and their service was pretty good. I found some pics of some I like------------...See MoreNeed input on interior door and bathroom hardware finishes
Comments (4)Trend, as far as I can judge, is gold, copper, and flat black. Of course other finishes are widely used by most. But I wouldn't worry about trends so much. What I would worry about-is how my chosen finish going to look like. For example chrome or nickel look good both in cheaper options and in more expensive ones. Brass or gold or oil-rubbed bronze can be extremely beautiful, but then they would cost more. And if they are cheap they sometimes won't look that great. I think some level of mixing finishes is perfectly acceptable, and can ever be extremely beautiful at times, but requires confidence and good eye. But if for example you are going with dark levers, black or bronze, and the hardware in bath is pewter or nickel-I think it will work. If levers are black and hardware is brass-would also work. Now, mixing "silver" finishes and gold ones-here I'd be more careful, because that's much harder to pull off. My preferred finishes are copper, polished nickel, antique silver, antique brass, pewter..all of these usually require special order and longer lead time, just something to keep in mind. I went with polished nickel in master bath-frankly, if I knew it'd be such a pain, I'd reconsider. As for the contrast-I think bronze or black would look amazing with white doors. Unless you have doors that you dislike so much you'd rather unsee them..:) I hope to see other answers here too, choosing hardware is an interesting topic....See Morelarke
