Lots of opinions. This is very helpful. I won't be doing anything now to the bath except maybe wall paint. I don't know how many of you are familiar with 1930's construction, but the tile is thicker than tile used today. Plus it's set into concrete and chicken wire mesh in the walls. Since its all so old, not really worth doing cosmetic updates. There are no functional problems with it. I don't think painting it would update it enough to be worth the $. Walls are all plaster. Oh, and the floor is small pink and ivory yellow tile too! Really my dilemma is not wat to do about the bathroom, it's about what to do with the 2 bedrooms. Does anyone know of any bedding that would not clash visually with the bathroom,, is preppy instead of old lady, and not too child like? I think that's what it needs.

I'd paint the walls a sage green. It's gender neutral. Do the ceiling a shade or two lighter. Paint the bookcase the same color as the wall and put it up on top of the dresser. Because it's a kids room fasten the furniture to the walls so it can't be pulled down on the kids. Her vanity I'd paint the same shade as the walls and then do a very puffy skirt on it in the green with some pink thrown in. Think of it as a ballet skirt lots of netting, glittery fabric. You could attach the skirt with a staple gun and then glue gun trim over the top to hide the staples. I'd give any stool or chair you get her the same treatment. A oval mirror above the vanity would be darling. I'd be incline to use green and white checks for the window treatments and bedding covers however knowing how kids are and depending on their ages that might be a battle you won't win. They all seem to love their special character bedding no matter how much it doesn't go with the room they are in AND since they are kids I wouldn't fight it. Save that battle for when they are older. I would give each child a white board and a cork board in their bed area to write on and to keep things that are important to them hung.

I really dislike the one in our house. This house was definitely designed by an architect who was showing off instead of thinking how spaces are used. In our 5-level house, one level has the two "kids" bedrooms with a landing/hallway between them. The J&J parallels the hallway. Each bedroom has its own sink and toilet, with the shower in between. So yeah, just two shower curtains between them. It's so bizarre, and I can't imagine what the kids who lived in this house initially managed. Walking through the shower to close the other door? Just don't do it.

See I think a J&J is ok in lots of situations. We have one child who has a J&J bathroom. It is nice that he has access without going in the hallway - and it gives the occasional guest access to that bathroom. We do have another guest room so the vast majority of the time, the Jill portion is unused. Obviously we don't really need that 4th bedroom but resale.... We could cut the other bath and just have 1 hall bath upstairs, but then guests are using a hall bath and sharing with my son. That wasn't considered ideal. So we are building our second J&J. It could be a hall bath with access to his room but layout dictated a J&J. Harder to have a hall bath with a window also.
