What Do You Think of This Counter Bracket?

My potential fabricator is very much against anything but brackets with gussets or corbels to support granite overhangs. He says those flat bars can flex.

I found this one on the Short Run Pro site that has a welded gusset but avoids the "knee-knocker" hypotenuse. Sorry but I don't know how to insert a hyperlink here

That bracket is made from 7 ga steel (very beefy), and it looks like the geometry at the angle is well-designed to prevent flexing. I'll admit that I'm not an expert on supporting granite counter tops, but I am an engineer, and I'd be pretty comfortable putting something like that in my home. I think the only issue is being sure that vertical surface it's attached to won't flex, and that the fasteners go into something really strong...not just some 3/4" plywood.

I like them! Not to sound like a broken record but I agree with K9arlines comment that you need more green to tie them in. I think a fruit bowl or tray on the island along with some pretty dish towels in a basket, or a canister. I'd love to see a window treatment over your sink that would complement and balance the bold pattern. Maybe a green ticking stripe? Or aybe not exactly this ( no Blinds for sure) but you get the general idea.

I don't have one, Holly. I'm thinking about using it if we remodel our powder room. I also found a brand called Xylem. I know it comes in a 37" but I can't find info about the counter. I like the sink--it's the same as the popular Kohler Ladena sink. The ledge seems a little shallower, but I do like the ledge on the Kohler. I also like the sink better on the ceramic Impressions better than the cast iron. Xylem:

Habitat ReStore are independently operated and write their own donation acceptance policies, in general. There are some standard acceptance policies mandated by Habitat international. Call or look at your local affiliate website for what they accept. I ran Restores in TN and TX. We accepted them as we had space. Some stores don't have space. Habitats only sell the pieces we don't care about a customers fabrication requirements. Customers do what they want after purchase. Many will take a piece for $25 and make it work for them. Space is the issue.

I raised the counters in my former house to 39". The DW sat on a little platform, which was hidden by a tall toe kick. The surrounding cabinets were taller, not just a higher toe kick. Picture below kind of shows it. We did that kitchen in 2008, and I never even thought about how the toe kick looked, just that I liked that the DW was higher. Now I'm doing a remodel in a different house. Just yesterday my KD and I met with the cabinet maker to finalize the design, and I'm raising just the island to 38". (Perimeter stays standard height because I have a range.) He asked about raising the DW (on island, paneled) vs having a trim piece on top, and I voted to raise it again. NOTE: In this case, I'll have a taller toe kick under all the island cabinets. I'm not concerned because it faces an aisle so no one will see it. If I opted to keep the DW lower, I could have had taller cabinets / deeper drawers, and kept a consistent toe kick across the bottom. Neither the cabinet maker nor my KD liked the thought of a raised DW with a tall toe kick next to cabinets with a standard toe kick. So here are the choices as I see them: 1) raise DW and all toe kicks; 2) keep DW low with trim at top, keep all toe kicks standard, get taller cabinets/deeper drawers; 3) have a staggered toe kick with taller under a raised DW, standard under the surrounding cabinets. old house DW, 39" counters:

It would help to know the dimension of the overhang. Offhand the bracket seems to have unnecessarily sharp corners and edges. I would rather knock my knee than scratch or cut it. I would listen the fabricator.

I always use 3/4" granite with a narrow 3/4" piece adhered below the edges so a hidden 3/4" piece of plywood can support the granite and that space can house stronger elements if necessary.

Renovator8 makes an important point in regard to having a piece of 3/4" plywood underneath: it will really distribute the weight on any brackets, regardless of which ones you go with.

I still think the steel brackets you linked to are fine, but I should have mentioned having the layer of 3/4" plywood right under the granite for uniform support...and for attaching the horizontal part of the bracket. As for the edges on the bracket, I don't see that as a problem because the profile of the bracket is so low that the likelihood of banging yourself on it is remote.

Without knowing the thickness, length or width of the granite overhang no one could tell you if this is an adequate bracket.

I have linked to a good source but let your fabricator tell you which one will work because he knows the design condition and has experience with these supports; there's no need for anyone to guess.
