Polished black countertop

Is polished black granite out? I mean with white shaker cabs, industrial pendants lighting over the island, s/s appliances, etc..

We don't want a high maintenance surface, honed granite and soapstone are eliminated. We tried some leathered AB samples which didn't behave nicely. We thought about ceasarstone Raven but I don't like the fact that litle chips turns out white, (which is bound to happen around the sink) I find it a bit too unidimensional also.

Today we saw slabs of cambrian black granite that is locally mined. We liked it a lot, there's a bit of charcoal grey undertone, some tiny speckles too. I'm just afraid it will look too stark/unsuited for a regular suburb house.

Countertop is the hardest decision to make in kitchen reno!
