front entry door facing long hallway, any suggestions?

We do addtions and remodel our old 50's ranch style home. This is the current desgin . The front door faces to the long hallway. How about move the front door in the middle and two window at both side( maybe not enough length for a bay window) . The other opiton is to keep current design , add a decorative screen panel in front of the entry door to block the view, this is just my idea, don't where i can buy those kind of screen panel, will it looks weired in the middle of the living room just for blocking views. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
Also like get suggestions for furniture placement for the living room, where should we put the TV?

It's hard to tell from yr picture where the hall bath ends. If it ends behind the toilet, with a nook on the other side, then I think if you just take out the stub of a wall and place a nice sideboard there instead, the hallway will shorten by a few feet. That would also be handy for coming and going in the garage, a place for keys, outgoing mail, etc. and provide a focal point for the eye, instead of the hallway.

Unless you make major interior changes, that hallway will still be there. Solatubes, even just one in the middle of the hall, can make it feel much more open. An attractive runner on the floor gives it a sense of a room.

Eta: you could also put a small solatube in the windowless hall bath.

Looking at it on a different screen, I do see the bathroom where the bathroom ends, so never mind about taking out the short walls. The rest of my suggestions stay the same.

But here's a question: do you use that 4th bedroom as a bedroom or as a study? And do you need a shower in that bath?

If you don't need the shower, take it out and push the bathroom doorway/wall,in a bit and case the opening. when you look down the hall it will make it look like it's not so long, it'll look like there's another destination, and will give the hall bath a bit more privacy,

If you use the room as a bedroom or guest room/study, can you flip the bathroom so it opens from the bedroom? And still put in the solatubes?

I have the same hall way, so really loved everyone's ideas! I have thought about clearing out a closet on one wall, removing the doors and putting a sleeping closet in there that stays open to the hallway to give it more width. It would only be cot sized because of the depth possibly with book shelves and a light looking like one of those European wall niches with a bed. Because I love rustic, I would layer it with a collection of wool blankets, fun pillows and maybe a pictures and/or old postcards. I have lots of guest and a child could sleep on the cot. Now, to figure out what to do with what is in the closet! What do you think of that idea? My hallway is actually the same color. I've also been thinking of running a 2 pieces of wood down the hall apart enough to hang pictures between them in an effort to make a more tidy gallery, but fear it would lengthen and skinny up the look of the hallway. dino, pretty door. It will dress up your hallway very nicely and will fit with your traditional/transitional decor just fine. I think it will add a little sparkle to your somewhat plain facade. It isn't like some doors that are so ornate & Victorian that they look out of place on a colonial-esque home. Yours is a nice choice. Hope you enjoy.

All I’ve listed bloom fine with morning to afternoon shade for us in the south. It gives them a breather from intense all-day sun and heat. You absolutely can use perennials ... but some don’t bloom as non-stop as annuals. And most do prefer more sun than you get. (Various perennial salvias or Lantana would work.) For containers, and this is just my own preference, I like annuals. Especially for front door pots. But I like to plant for the seasons — in fall and winter, I switch to cool season plants so I have year round interest. And I like to use different combos every year, so annuals are good for that. Another idea is to use a dwarf evergreen shrub with colorful leaves (Nandina, for example) for height, then colorful annuals with it. The shrub will stay on through the winter. Depending on the size of the container, I usually keep them potted around 3 yrs before taking them out and planting somewhere in the yard. For petunias, the Wave series takes our summers well. Yes, dracaenas are annuals for me, too, as we also get freezes. Worth it, though, they’re so inexpensive. Another option for height and soft spikiness would be ornamental grasses that stay on the smaller side. Check with your nursery if interested, I’m not sure which are common in your area.

Hello all, I would like to share and hear your comments on more information I added after you kindly helped me with the hallway. As I am placing the items, it seems as not that long anymore. Please bear with my drawing as i don't have the technical skills as most of you have , you can laugh of it as it is very simple... :) :) but I hope I can share the message.. What about adding some visual separation using the ceiling height or it would be too "busy", too many things at once?. Which painting would you place beside the sideboard? I was thinking of the rectangular Oops I forgot something.... I might be jumping too far ahead as we are still on planning phase. This help me to see if the layout will work with the painting and of course the ceiling is something I should decide. thanks again Thanks again for taking your time to help.

yes, we will use it as a guest room. both of our parents will come to visit us from oversea. we need the 4th bedroom although maybe just couple months in a year. Will install solatubes in the hall bath , but not sure a skylight in a hallway or just same type solatube, anyone has ideas about cost for a solatube?

Solatubes are less expensive than a skylight because no framing is involved, and you can add a light kit inside it, too. I had 3 in my last house, one in an interior bathroom (with an exhaust fan incorporated), one with a light in the upstairs hall, and one with a light over the stairwell.

Definitely consider rotating the bathroom for your visitors! They will appreciate it. Our guest bath is through a study/guest room on the first floor, too.
