Suggestions for brick floors

We are in the process of updating our counter tops and we're leaning towards new colonial gold granite. We haven't decided on a backslash yet, but we're thinking of tiny travertine like tiles in neutral or honey colors... any recommendations? Then we'll do the floors. I like red brick, but I'm looking for suggestions. Real bricks or brick pavers? Any color suggestions for red brick floors would be greatly appreciated! Pictures would be great!!

Just came across this pic on the "This Old House" site - terracotta tiles.

Early in our planning we fell in love with this tile - reclaimed French chateau parefeuille.

We did one wall in our kitchen red brick. We were originally going to go with Inglenook Tile, they hand make the bricks -- we went to the shop to see it done, it was really cool. But we found another brand majorly discounted at the place we purchased our marble (it's Owens Corning, but I don't know if you can use it on a floor??)

So a few things: -Be careful doing dark flooring and a dark ceiling. It may feel like the room is closing in on you. I'd go lighter for one of them -Don't do laminate in a basement. Laminate is water resistant at best, but even that's kind of a lie. Go for LVP (laminate vinyl planking) instead. It's far more durable for a basement. -Dark floors show everything. They're nearly impossible to keep looking nice so just keep that in mind when picking flooring. -The brick column looks nice, don't worry about it -Stair modifications (even adding drawers under) should be done by a pro only. Never DIY stairs because there's a lot of structural math involved and local codes. -Pick paint after everything else is installed. It will really help you determine what the best colors are.

What? Faux wood tile as a hearth? The brick is still way too busy, and. The faux wood is worse. Paint the brick so the grout lines disappear.

I had almost the exact same brick/style of fireplace; painted white about two years ago and have never regretted it. Not only did it help update the fireplace, but choices around decor and colors really opened up. Suggest saving your favourite inspiration pictures with painted fireplaces, looking at rooms that reflect your tastes, to help you decide. White is the most versatile color though.

So the garage doors draw the eye because they are light and your front door is black. IMHO, trying to add brick veneer and get both sides matching will be difficult and expensive, and may not ultimately look good. If the bricks don’t match and you limewash, your contractor will really need to be an expert to get both sides identical. You will also have to paint or replace the garage doors because the light color makes the house look off balance. I would paint the brick the same color as the siding. Siding holds paint well, so you can actually paint your house a whole new color if you want. You can paint your shutters too, and your front door. If you could pick any color in the world for your house, what would it be?

CS - just looked through my (stack o) papers for a receipt from Pave - we had ordered a sample - but can't find it. Check the web site - pricing may be there. When we were considering it, I spoke with someone from Pave and they were very helpful.

Good luck - would love to see this in someone's kitchen, since it didn't make it to mine!

I have emailed them to request a quote. Do you recall if it was comparable to brick pavers or tile?

We had planned to get the French parefeuille tiles, but we couldn't get them quickly without paying what was too much for us. It would have been about $14 per square foot if we had been able to wait 4 to 6 months for delivery. But, we needed them more quickly than that, and the only source that had them in stock was charging $27 per square foot. For us, $14 would have been steep, but worth it. Unfortunately, $27 was out of the question. This was all in late 2007/early 2008, so the prices and availability may be much different now. We went with travertine for about $5 per square foot and have been pleased with it so far.

We actually got a sample of the Sunshine Pavers but I'm having a hard time picturing it completed. The website has a couple of photos, but not enough to give me a good idea. Anyone have pictures of their kitchen with Sunshine pavers?
