Almost Finished...Photos to share
Comments (46)Lindy...I LOVE when your house photos get bumped. They're some of my favorites! I feel like I'm trying to build the lower income version of your home!!! I've given up my pedastal tub and a couple of other things just to have Brazilian Teak floors...and your travertine bath is gorgeous! Granted, I did love those things before I saw your home...but seeing them in such a beautiful setting made me NEED them even more! What did you use for your shower in the gorgeous travertine bathroom? I ordered a bunch of walnut travertine in a versailles pattern and I'm wondering if it can be used on the shower walls? I can't picture it--or picture what to use in it's place that would flow with the travertine on the floor....See Moretotally flush paneled refrigerator?
Comments (28)Xedos--I can't figure out how to PM you, but I have a question for you as you appear to have a lot of first hand knowledge on appliances. What are your thoughts/which would you choose on SZ versus T'dor? Does either actually keep produce fresher longer or is that just hype? It's information overload when I visit showrooms and I leave more confused than when I walked in, not to mention I'm reluctant to trust the salespeople. I'm open to a combo fridge/freezer unit or separate fridge/freezer columns. This is for a new build, so space is not an issue. The only thing my DH insists on is there be no vented panel at the top compressor or that the vent panel at the top be the flat style--he hates the look of the top vent panels with the multiple slats (hope that visual makes sense)....See MoreIssues with quality and finishes (photos added)
Comments (47)The cabinet and tile totals are pretty darn low for the look and level that you appeared to want. Those are the Big Two that standout in the contract and the photos. I would have taken that as a Red Flag to research exactly what was being proposed for those. I would have expected the project to be a minimum of 50-75K more than what you paid, to get the look and quality that you assumed you would get here. If the tile is properly waterproofed in wet areas, and that is a HUGE IF, then I’d be inclined to have some of the worst in the non wet areas tweaked as best as their skill allows. And leave the wet areas alone. Maybe an epoxy grout colorant matched yo the background color in order to minimize the contrast. If the wet areas are not waterproofed correctly, that is a tearout and redo. That is unacceptable at any price point. But, I’d just settle for a credit for all of the tile work and hire someone else. It will not be nearly enough to pay for a redo from a true tile Pro though. That’s where that Red Flag on price will bite you, The cabinets are total TX backyard hobbyist junk and need to be gone. There is no salvaging that type of poor work, and improper finishing. I’d want a credit for all of the cabinet work in the house. It’s builder grade and finished with their feet. All flash and no substance. That credit will not be enough to get cabinets at the level that you wanted either. Pretty far from it. Another Red Flag. This is going to get ugly, because he is going to end up owing you more than you have left to pay him. And it will cost you another 50-100K to get things done to the level that you want. Or, you accept that the level you wanted isn’t reachable within your desired budget, and accept the level that your budget and contractor were able to give you....See MoreJust bought a new house....
Comments (35)@sambah006 and @fori I think the person that we brought it from was probably depressed. Every time we came to view the house he was there. He sat on the back steps will we were doing the home inspection with 2 of his dogs. He hadn’t packed up anything and we were the second conttact on the home. It was a crazy experience and I’m glad that we are in there now fixing up the place!...See Morecolorfast
