anything else we should do to banquette seat?
Comments (3)You are smart to think carefully about designing this before you build. IKEAFANS has some hacks for building bench seats with above refrigerator cabinets. Like Clarion said, the idea finished height should be similar to a dining chair (17-19 inches). Factor in a comfy 4-5" cushion. You can order these already dacron wrapped online from customcushions.net etc. Make sure that the seat base has an overhang of 5 inches so that people can sit naturally tucking their feet under. Also factor in a cushioned back that is 4inches or so but is angled back 3inches. When you do the math, the seat will seem kind of deep and low but trust me, it works well once the cushions are added. This will be a favorite place to hang out for hours playing games, doing homework, gossiping and ofcourse for eating. In your space a landing zone on the left may be useful. Also consider morgue drawers for some additional storage. Comments (8)sorry to say that I rejected just such a planning option due to windows backing a banquette. The built in banquette would look great until someone went through the window backwards :-( or no one would sit with their backs to the windows in the winter :-( or we kept losing guests behind the banquette window drapes :-) We will be going with regular chairs. Comments (12)LWO is often correct, so see if you can take any of her suggestions before you try to build heated seats. Might you simply need better heating? Radiant heating under your floors would give you better, more even heat distribution than pretty much any other type of heating. If that’s not what you’ve got, consider installing it in your kitchen (you’ll have to change your floors). My Mainer friends swear by it. If you have sold yourself on this heated seat idea, maybe start out by installing electric blankets as your banquette “upholstery” for one season, and see if you like having your posterior toasted when the rest of you is chilly. It might not give you the feel you are hoping for. Better to know before you build....See Morekitchen bunk/banquette seating
Comments (12)Its a giant pain to be in an inside seat on a banquette. Go drink a pitcher of tea at Golden Corral and sit in that inside seat in a corner booth. See how irritated the outside seat folks get after your unpteenth time to get up for the facilities. Banquettes are best when there is no inside seat, and everyone in one has an outside way out....See MoreHolly- Kay
