I love it......I use homemade bread, toasted. This is a comfort food at its best!

No way, my mom ate it also and soda crackers with milk. Made me ill to watch her, but I have never liked milk~~I use almond milk, if I eat cereal, which is rarely.

I haven't heard that term for over 50 years! I've never had it. I think grandmother may have made for her husband once in a while because I remember hearing it when I was a kid.

Never even heard of it? Maybe it is phasing out??? Or it's regional??? Dunno! If it's just milk and toast, no thanks. And I love milk. My main drink at home.

My mother used to make it for us when we were sick. I wouldn't touch it now and don't recall really liking it then either. Too mushy. Actually, I don't like anything like that--pancakes, French toast, waffles, etc. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Socks, I found it too mushy too, and I don't care for pancakes usually either. However, French toast...yum!

Wow. Sounds like one of those things that used to be made years ago when ingredients were harder to find, like mock apple pie made out of crackers.

My mom made mock apple pie. :) Seriously. My dad loved it. I don't know why they made it when apples were plentiful; we had an orchard!

I remember the 8 or so crackers just floating around in all the liquid as it went into the oven. Hahaha....fun memories!

My grandfather was a dairy farmer and this was always his "first breakfast"
He got up and made it himself. For some reason I think it was mostly coffee with milk added.
Grandma didn't help with morning milking.
When he was done, she had a hot breakfast of eggs, potatoes and meat waiting for his 2nd breakfast.

This is so odd. Just yesterday that word popped up in my head, and I was reminded of how often we had it for breakfast. I was the youngest of 9 children and I suppose that was one way to feed us all on a Depression income. I remember we put black pepper on it.

Do any of you remember Mr. Milquetoast? He was a cartoon character, so called because of his quiet, timid manner, just like that bowl of milk toast.

Sue, I remember Caspar Milquetoast! But I never had milk toast. :-)

OMGosh - I hated that stuff! Hate milk, and warm milk over toast, making the toast all soggy, was just too much.

My mother always thought it would soothe my stomach and made me eat it. I gagged on every mouthful.

Stomach soothing? Ok, that makes sense. When my stomach is really really bothering me, I'll lie down, as still as possible. Then, I'll nibble on a piece of toast, taking as long as I need. Even if it's nibble one bite then rest. I don't usually drink milk until I feel well enough, but milk can be a stomach smoother (ulcers). I can see it.

I can't imagine eating a "cracker" (saltine or Ritz) pie, especially if I had real apples. I guess it's more about the spices though. And that I totally get.

I have never had it but sure don't think I would like it and I like milk, not warm though and I like toast. I like my pancakes crispy when fried. Love French toast too, but no milk toast or crackers and milk for me.

I hate wet bread.

But I remember when I was small (somewhere under 7 years) when I had gotten hit in the forehead with a baseball bat, that my mother would soak stail bread in milk and put it on my forehead to draw infection out.
And another time when my brother had me on his bicycle and I got my leg caught in the spokes, she used it again on my leg.

I don't remember having it myself although I may have when very young but I never liked milk and it did not agree with me so I did not have milk often.

My grandfather always had a bowl of cooked rice with warm milk and a little butter and sugar every night after dinner as his desert. It was also served for breakfast a lot.

Mom used to make us home made pudding on the stove when we were sick we loved it. And she made wonderful French toast but we called it egg bread or Pain Perdu.

I loved pancakes made out of corn bread batter, they were one of my faves. Cooked in the big cast iron skillet, she would add just a little sugar to the batter to give them a light sweet taste and fry till crunchy. Man I have not had that since I was a kid.

I guess a lot of us had milk toast forced on us when we're sick. I couldn't stand it either. I like my milk cold and my toast crispy.

I never had milk toast as described, but I like to dunk toast into hot chocolate in the winter....but a quick dunk and then bite so toast does not get soggy.

I don't remember having Milk Toast.

If I had it as a child, I've successfully blocked it out of my memory, lol. Sounds totally unappealing to me.

Fond memories of cold winter mornings and sitting down having a warm bowl of milk toast.

Guess that's why I enjoy "dunking" pound cake in a glass of milk or warm coffee.

My dad always enjoyed dunknig vanilla wafers in his black coffee and I can still remember that sweet vanilla smell.

Joanie, I love dunking my toast in cocoa too! Soft, not soggy.

Never had it. But pouring things over toast reminded me of something we did have for dinner frequently--Welsh Rarebit. I know that some call it Rabbit, but we said Rarebit! Have no idea why. . .Chicago area.

Never had it. I quit drinking milk when I was five years old....haven't had a drop since then. I do cook with it, but I don't drink it.
