HELP!!!!! I have to choose a paint color by tomorrow. Has anyone used Alpaca by Benjamin Moore? The sample board turned a bright fleshy color in the room where I had wanted to use it. I hope that the paint color Fairway Oaks which is one shade darker than Alpaca doesn't turn fleshy like Alpaca because I plan to paint a very large area with that color. Has anyone used either of these paint colors? The painters will be here tomorrow! HEEELLLPPPPPP!

I've been lurking for a year, but joined tonight because FINALLY, I can actually be of some help! I'm very "decorating challenged", but recently sampled both Ben Moore Alpaca and Fairway Oaks on my living room walls. I didn't care for Fairway Oaks -- darker than I wanted and had a yellow undertone. Loved the Alpaca in natural daylight, but it turned golden at night under the lamp. I went ahead and painted Alpaca anyway because I was sick of looking for the perfect color. Once the Alpaca was on all four walls I loved it! It's just perfect in the room and looks nice day and night.

Thanks to everyone on the Home Decorating Forum for the great advice I've been reading and enjoying for the past year.

happy, you need to post a photo for us. I've never seen that color and am curious to see how it looks up on the wall. Thanks

I'd suggest you post this in the Home Decorating forum here. There are many members who have RH Silver Sage and can give you great advice on what coordinates well with it, etc. ;) Lovely kitchen, btw!

i understand you're upset but please try and relax. all color is relevant to its surroundings. it looks different sitting in your garage than it will inside your kitchen! white especially takes on color from the room and even from color and light coming through your windows. honestly, while i was going through the trauma of finding The Perfect White ...finally locating it only having to change it again ...i realized i was agonizing over nothing. i lugged a dozen painted doors and put them in the new kitchen and i sat and watched them. i left them there and went back several hours later and looked at them again. and after a while i realized something: they were ALL white! the subtle differences each hue possessed was lost in a mass of (basically) WHITE doors. so after declaring my undying love for SW column (and then having the cabinet maker tell me i had to change it) i happily chose a DIFFERENT SW white, whose name completely escapes me because i've decided it just doesn't matter. my cabinets will be white and i'm not getting stuck on the almost indiscernible differences from one shade of white to another. and before anyone jumps all over me let me explain i am EXTREMELY color sensitive. it was my job at one point to sit in a giant light box and mix color for magazine production. i understand color and how to mix it and how it changes and how it constantly surprises us. i promise you, once everything is moved in, the color WILL change. things will meld together like the ingredients in a simmering pan and i'm pretty sure you will be delighted by the taste. trust in the universe and move on to the next item on your "to do" list. i have never met a color i didn't like. good luck to you as you reach the finish line! i'm so excited to see your reveal!

I answered you on your other thread....I think you're going down the Band-aid road. Budge is right about the green. You better do some more testing before the painter starts putting color on your walls. He/she will be priming, right? That should buy you a bit of time. What color is your furniture? Can you do green in the room? It's the safest choice if you're in a hurry.

@Lonely Dreamer agreed. Honestly my dining room is my favorite room but it's a work in progress still. The cabinets still need to be made to look like built ins and I have a painting I have my eye on but it's 400 (and it's so hard to pull the trigger on a painting for that much, especially convincing the husband haha). I also want a new table, possibly round with an extension for it to be oval. I will ask for advice when I get closer to purchasing. Everything is so square so it feels like another round element, especially with them both being center of the room, would make more sense.

Thank you for posting the photo of the alpaca paint color. I noticed that you have a lot of natural light in the room and that may be why you didn't get any fleshtone undertones. My room has very little natural light. If anyone else has used Fairway Oaks or Alpaca paint please let me know your experience with these colors. Thanks to all for your responses!

Lighting will make a big difference from room to room. CJ, I think that if the lighter of the two colors turned fleshy on you (we call it Bandaid color in my house!) the next color on the strip will, too. Try moving to the next strip (or two) over, away from pink.

Thanks for the tips. Well, I stopped the painters after one coat of the Fairway Oaks. I just don't know if I can get used to it. It turns gold, yellow and a flesh color. Really weird! I have reveal light bulbs but it hasn't helped much. I'm hoping that it will grow on me. This paint ain't cheap!
