I am assuming the top picture is the inspiration image, and the bottom is your actual kitchen in question. If so, the top picture is not to my liking, the wall color is almost as yellow as the floors and cabinets. Your cabinets appear to be a different tone - more dark oak, so depending on the actual yellow paint you choose it might be a nice combination. Spend some money on test paint and see what it feels like.

there are big differences between the yellow kitchen and yours: your cabs go to the ceiling AND your backsplash, which i'm guessing goes up to the bottom of the cabs.

so you are left with that little space above the window, right?

do you plan to paint the family room the same color? if so, would you post a pic of your family room, too?

i think maybe the family should influence the kitchen, since it is the larger space relative to that tiny amount above the window... unless i'm missing something. :)

Ironcook has a great point. Isn't the only place for paint above the window? Is there any wall space on the fridge wall for paint?

My old boss used to obsess about BS all the time. We learned to say the equivalent of 'yes, dear' whenever he used to prattle on about stuff...

Actually, cabinets aren't dark oak, they are medium cherry color. the photo looks darker, and IRL they are lighter.
Good point ironcook, those cabinets have ceiling above their cabs...

breezygirl, it's actually a great room with a joining breakfast nook/family room. i will paint everything the same color since it's one continuous room.
(DH removed that pony wall so now it's more open)

also, you can peek into the formal dinning room which is now RED. it will also be painted the same color, if not a shade darker than the kitchen/great room.

We have almost the same color scheme in our cabin, although the countertops are cheap, almost white (not really ivory or cream - just almost white, otherwise known as used to be white, but now just old) laminate, not your beautiful granite.
I painted the space a light to medium tan khaki, with a lot of gold overtones - it was Valspar sand 1 or sand 2, I think - it looks great against the wood floors and cabinets. I'll try to get a picture.

i don't want something too yellow, but definitely need something with a gold tone as we don't get a lot of light (despite having all the windows) because of the huge pergola in the backyard.
i also don't want something too light (as we have now) since this is "kids central" with neighborhood kids running through here in the summer thanks to our pool.
we have a very light color now and you can see every dirt streak..it's driving me nuts.

Hi Jillsee! Our layouts look similar. I think I've made up my mind (notice I say I THINK!!!) and am going with Muralo paints (read great things about them on the paint forum) in Honey Clover. I'll see if I can find a pix when I get home. Some others I considered (all BM) - sol, safari pittsfield bluff, manchester tan, philadelphia cream and blond wood. Good Luck!

Jillsee, I tried looking on the Valspar website to pull a picture, and it just wants to paint the color onto its fake wall!
Anyway it is Sand, and may actually be Sand 3. The Sand series goes 1-6 getting progressively darker
