Marvin vs Pella vs Loewen vs Eagle
Comments (2)Everyone will tell you their grilles are the best. But I have to agree with mightyanvil. If you like the real muntin look, you will be disappointed with snap in grilles or between the glass grilles. Removable grilles tend to get abused by the sun and temperature swings, and they break. Permanently applied grilles offer the best look. They take a little longer to clean, but how often do you clean versus how much time is spent looking out of the windows? I'd go for the SDL bars. To save a little money, you could get them without the spacer bar between the panes of glass, as long as you don't mind not having a true divided light look. Good luck....See MoreLoewen or Marvin?
Comments (24)Way off topic, but what the heck. Puts a bit of a different spin on the subject: January 7, 2013 Marvin Windows & Doors and Loewen usually battle for sales with homeowners, architects and builders, but this week, employees of the neighboring window and door makers will face off in an international border battle for bragging rights on the hockey rink. About 90 miles separate Warroad, Minn.,"home of Marvin" and Steinbach, Manitoba "home of Loewen". A group of Loewen employees will make the trip south on Saturday, Jan. 12, to help inaugurate WarroadâÂÂs newly remodeled Olympic Arena. The game begins at 4:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission to the game, but free-will donations will be accepted to raise funds for new tables and seating in the arena lobby. Concession sales at the event also will go toward lobby furnishings, and there will be a raffle of VIP hockey gear and other items. âÂÂWeâÂÂre happy to invite our friends from Loewen to Warroad, to show them how we play hockey in Minnesota,â says Paul Marvin, Marvin's director of materials. âÂÂAll kidding aside, these are two great companies that share a Northern heritage and a love of winter sports that crosses national borders. WeâÂÂll have players from just about every department, and every age range." Refereeing the game will be Warroad native, NHL All-Star and 1980 Olympic gold medal âÂÂMiracle on Iceâ team member Dave Christian. Despite being a Warroad native, Christian is uniquely suited to referee the game without favoritism, as he is also quality manager of Cardinal Glass in Fargo, N.D., which produces insulating glass for both Marvin and Loewen. Another local legend, Marvin plant manager and 40-year employee Ron Lund, has signed on to manage and coach the Warroad squad. âÂÂIt will be a fun event to raise money for a worthy cause "and one team will go home with some friendly bragging rights,â Marvin says, adding that there are already plans for a rematch in March on LoewenâÂÂs turf. Comments (15)Don't necessarily want to get into technical detail "debate" but Loewen claims to use Coastal Douglas Fir. The April 2010 Forest Service labs Woodhandbook (http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/fplgtr/fpl_gtr190.pdf) does NOT test vertical grain DF as a category; Loewen website simply cites the handbook findings and seems to be in ballpark of accurate in claiming that their DF has better performance characteristics to Ponderosa Pine IF I am understanding things correctly. While I am interested in performance numbers and especially glazing performance, I am equally interested in forum "expert" opinions on functionality, customer experience, warranty service, etc. Thanks for any other input. And yes I will seek out looking at more things live, but while that is what I see and touch, it is what is under the hood that probably will have greatest influence on long term satisfaction. Added via edit, and in case like me you need a resource that describes in plain English what some of the measurements mean and in what circumstances they might be important you might find this page valuable the table on that page(http://workshopcompanion.com/KnowHow/Design/Nature_of_Wood/3_Wood_Strength/3_Wood_Strength.htm) also supports claim that DF is stronger than PP....See Morewindow decision needed--new build Andersen vs. Marvin
Comments (56)Perhaps not, but as we know we can use the best material in the world and if not engineered properly or quality control standards adhered to you can a product that is subpar in performance. Have you had any experience with the higher quality vinyl windows, ones that have higher PG ratings, better air infiltration ratings better U-Value ratings? All these would have far better numbers than the Marvin unless you want to use there numbers that are using tests that are irrelevant ....See Morekathy_ny
