Help!! I hate my new floors.
Comments (36)I was just about to post that I felt the problem was a lack of contrast, and that the whole would look better when you got some darker colors in place... But you beat me to it: I like your kitchen very much, congrats! Is something going over the toekick area? I'm not sure I've ever seen one lighter than the cabs. I think something dark there to separate the floor and cabs would help define the difference without calling too much attention. As to paint, I'm not a fan of sage greens, just because they were so common a few years ago. My sister painted her living room sage, used almost the same color all over the outside of her 3 story victorian, then bought a car, also sage. The exterior still looks fresh-- great contrast to her more somber neighbors-- but the the car and living room seem a little too common. But you do want to pick up on the granite color a bit, and sage would do that very nicely. I'd pick up a wide range of pale greens accross the yellow/blue spectrum, lay them on the granite, and see which one makes it pop. Have to say, the valspar colors at lowe's that have the holes cut in the cards really does make it easier to see how colors will relate....See MoreI hate my new kitchen
Comments (91)Pot lights in a perimeter pattern (about 12 inches from cabinets) the ceiling, a soffit with crown moulding over the cabinets, modern long SS cabinet handles, a pretty modern chandelier/ceiling light with personality to replace the fluorescent light, SS microwave, stove, and dishwasher to match the fridge..... SS appliances, pot lights, crown molding over a short soffit so cabinets appear to go to the ceiling, cool light fixture. Long handles on the cabinetry, again soffit to ceiling pot lights Interesting light over proposed/suggested island. The kitchen needs to be finished before you will feel comfortable in it; items are not relating to each other because you do not have enough items in the kitchen.......when you do have all the elements it will look 'finished' because it will be....See MoreI hate the finish on my new kitchen cabinets
Comments (20)yalemichmom, fortunately my contractor was very accommodating and did not resist when I said I wanted to hire my favorite painter for walls and trim. I selected and purchased the paint myself and the two professionals were able to schedule work around each other. I wonder if your contractor would consider this. As my architect said, "It's your house and you are writing the check." I think you will be fine with the factory-finished crown, as long as it is the same throughout the room. Kendrah, "too much of a hardened, baked on look that made it feel too sleek and modern for the space" is exactly how I feel about my cabinets. live_wire_oak, thank you for the detailed explanation of coatings. Love the car analogy! It isn't actually the sheen of CV that bothers me. I couldn't find the correct word to describe what I dislike. It's what Kendrah said. I elected to go with CV for durability and the expense of hand painting. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen unfinished cabinets painted on site (with Advance) by aforementioned favorite painter - even knowing it is more fragile and will require periodic repainting. The one thing I appreciate about CV is that inevitable drips of coffee do not stain the cabinet fronts. Mary Elizabeth, lighting does make a difference. The color bothers me less in dim early morning/late evening light. It's daytime, when the inalterable sunlight comes streaming in that I wish I'd chosen something with a little more chroma. All, thanks again for your thoughtful comments....See MoreI hate my new kitchen remodel and need help fixing it.
Comments (48)I think you have a lot going on here -- the varied tones in the cabinetry are strong, and the cabinets have to stay, so everything else must revolve around that: - Replacing the appliances /having them match will go a long way. Whether you go stainless steel or whatever, matching will make a difference. I put my hand over the black refrigerator, and the picture looked way better. - The window looks unfinished without a curtain, and it is an opportunity to bring in some color. Once you do this, repeat that color in floor mats and other linens. I think this will make a big difference. - The up-top portion of the cabinets looks empty. I'd like to see some baskets or some platters and bowls displayed. This'll come together. You're just not there yet....See Moreammcd
