From what I learned from a KraftMaid rep years ago, it's applied with same machinery as stain. And even though it technically is not a paint, it's thick enough to be considered a paint (if that makes sense). I can't speak of durability, just that I know that all brands of cabinet's painted finishes can have issues with heavy wear and tear and moisture around a sink or trash pull out. And as with all things, you get what you pay for. A painted finish from Debut will not be as good as Showplace and Showplace will not be as good as Plain & Fancy. Here is another opinion from a previous thread by GreenDesigns: "Opaque catalyzed varnish is what all of the major cabinet companies use. It sprays very well and is very very durable. Paint is what low end finishers use, because they don't have the equipment to deal with a catalyzed varnish and it's tons cheaper. Some high end cabinet companies that offer a "hand finished" look complete with brush strokes also use paint, but it's not the stuff you can buy at any local store. Paint is less durable, but it's part of the appeal of an "authentic" look to some people."

All my windows face South and West and the sun is very strong. I live in CA. The 2 sliding glass doors I purchased about 4 years ago have just the Sun Coat. Its terrible I continually find myself closing the black out drapes. The room is hot and very cold at night. I am happy that I ordered the same Milgard Thermally Improved windows for my entire home with the Sun Coat Max. We have not had them installed yet although I did place the window in the living room on the floor and can tell I will not have to keep closing the drapes and hopefully will not need window coverings at all. I can definitely see the difference. I hear they make a room more comfortable and I can see why.

Anybody have any experience with these smart tint switchable privacy film? Looking to add this to my French door to give it privacy when needed without having to hang drapes or blinds. Thanks!

Poplar doesn't have much grain. It’s one of the reasons it is a paint grade wood.
