NY/NJ Closet Design - are you familiar with these options?

There seems to be so many closet design options in the NY/NJ area(California closets, creative closets, container store, closet by design, easy closets, etc). I've heard that container store and creative closets use the flexible 'Elfa' system and also cost less. Does anyone have personal experience on this? How would you rank the various options in terms of price, flexibility, resale value, reputation, and quality? Are there other less known and better options in NY/NJ?

PS: am only interested in options that use wood in parts or all of their design.

We found California Closets and Closets by Design very expensive and didn't want a boxed kit, which the Container Store offers. Our decision came down to Closets Central and Easy Closets because they offer the same quality as the first two but are more reasonable. They also don't offer installation, but it is not difficult to do yourself or you can hire a local handyman.

We went with Closets Central because they have a much wider selection and seemed more solid. Both companies cost about the same but the service was better with Closets Central.

We're not familar with Creative Closets, so we can't comment. All of the companies you listed offer European systems so the flexibility would be the same on all of them.

We waited a long time to do our master closet so we wanted it fabulous, which we got. We saw that Building Products Magazine ranked CC higher than EC by a good margin, so that helped us decide also.

Easy Closets seemed too cookie cutter for our needs, while
Closets Central provided a custom design. The resale value of any quality closet will be more than what you spent on it. A realtor friend said Closets rank #2 in importance to home buyers. Only kitchens rank higher. Hope this helps!

barb - do you read the followups ??? 2 people have told you that it doesn't take much longer (if at all) for the condenser versions of that dryer to work than the vented one. You have stumbled upon a goldmine of info as the chances of someone haveing both models and you finding them are pretty slim and you've got 2. Now you're ignoring them or questioning their sincerity? One said your probably gonna have less dry time than your used to now. Anyway your just going to have to live with however long it takes to dry anyway if you want a condenser dryer to eliminate the humidity producing "box". Of course it's going to take longer toi dry somehing in humid Hawaii thne it will in dry Montana or airid Phoenix, but you just have to live with that. It'll apply to any dryer choice you make. Will you be able to notice teh xtra time, doubtful unless you sit and time the cycle, and then you'd obviously have plenty of time on your hands anyway, so as to make the cycle time moot anyhow! The euro's have timed dry and sensor dry. choose more dryness in sensor mode or increase the time = dry clothes. This is not new technology since a huge % of Europeans are highrise dwellers these types of units make sense for many. This design dind't just fall off the truck to dupe Americans in luxury condos. Cleaning the condensing matrix is a 15 min job tops if you use brushes. I spray mine down in the sink and it's about a 4 min. task. Unit is accesible from the front of machine, clicks in and out. Are you paying attention? The entire manual is readable at Bosch's website, why don't you give it a look. Heimert - the tube for the water on a condenser dryer drains from the dryer into the wastepipe for the washer. The OP's current setup is a bucket o/water attached to the dryer vent pipe. The water has to be there to trap lint. That whole shotin match just vents back into the condo.

WOW, your design is AWESOME!!! I can't believe I hadn't seen this thread a few weeks ago. I was searching for something else and stumbled in here to this thread. apdnj, I'm curious about something. Why don't you build the poolhouse and outdoor fireplace with the pool? I can't speak for other builders but I always cut my prices on these upgrades when I'm building the pool at the same time as opposed to coming back and doing them at a later date when I charge my standard asking price. Here's a link to a thread for another member who was asking about outdoor living areas like yours. I build some brutally affordable cabana's that although not nearly as beautiful as Chris's rendering usually will get a buyer to purchase. Magsnj, I'd almost certainly want to protect that nice window in the pantry too. Sigh. I liked my idea, too. The big issue is obviously what to do with the elephant-in-the-kitchen. 1. How about seeing what reframing the door from the DRM down in the lower corner does for you, like Bellsmom's but all the way down? You'd be able to go in and out from the back garden without actually walking "through" the kitchen. The refrigerator could go left of the doorway, invisible from the rest of the house (you put a panel across its side), the stove would be on the LRM wall, and there'd be work counter to the fridge's right to join the counter around the stove. 2. My favorite option from a distance: How about moving the door to the back yard out of the kitchen and into the dining room, giving it the work space it needs? Perhaps as one a trio of French doors. I imagine those three windows there are a very nice feature you'd like to leave alone but, ultimately, opening up a direct relationship between your living spaces and the rear garden would improve livability as a whole and, of course, allow you to set the elephant down into that lower left corner where the current door is, with storage alongside. Then the options would be much more fun: * Have the stove back to the DRM wall in a closed kitchen, * Put it on the LRM wall and create an open work counter at the DRM wall. * Slide the DRM door up against the closet for the additional layout options that offers. (You'd probably have to reframe it anyway to fit in the fridge.)

I had the hardest time deciding on closet organizers. I thought they were either too expensive, too ugly, too cheap looking or they didn't fit our space well. I finally ended up at the Container Store and I wasn't thrilled with theirs either - until I had them installed. I love the Elfa. Ours is the mesh chrome with the wood fronts and they are wonderful. They look very nice and I like the openess and flexibility of the system. They make it so easy - planning and installing. They also offer a very flexible return policy - even if you install and then decide you don't like it. They will also do whatever trimming or cutting is necessary - non additional charge - and you can even return that! I have really become a fan and I do recommend them.

Thaks Efmillier. I'm also leaning towards container store/elfa. Was there yesterday and really like the flexibility of the system and the wooden fronts help make it seem more of an upgrade. My quote was still more than I expected (but less than one I got from California Closets) and so I still need to shop a little more...but I might go with them if no other options comes close price/flexibility wise.
